    Question- are the issues with DX12 and some newer games loading due to the actual hardware, or could an driver update give an old card like this modern functionality? I realize it's not beneficial to NVidia to spend money on drivers for old hardware like this since they obviously want you to buy a new GPU eventually to make money.. but it does make one wonder if old GPUs are hampered more by the basic hardware architecture or by the lack of driver support.

      Both AMD and Nvidia make their GPUs slower and less functional through driver update specially when a GPU is over 6 years old, that's why gamers need to push for open source drivers.

      @@Fernando-Rodriguez And proof of this? Though I will admit the good old HD 6950's Passmark score dropped a good 30% a few years ago. That did seem fishy.

      @@BReal-10EC both Apple and Samsung have notor slowed down their products through updates to the OS, I'm sure Both Nvidia and AMD do the same thing with their drivers, it's very noticeable on low-end GPUs.

    Why did the fps suddenly drop in Minecraft?

  • @RafiXX
    @RafiXX 2 года назад +1

    I had one, Gigabyte version. I overclock GPU to 915 MHz and VRAM to 4200 MHz. In Unigine benchmar i had 1 point more score than in my Gainward GTX 580. Of course I broke this GTX 570, probably VRAM gone :)

      @Rex-tt1vk 2 года назад +1

      Yeah good binned 570 can win with 580 without much problem, other thing is when you put it against 3Gb variant of 580 (you also have 2,5gb 570s but they are much much rarer)

      I had but only 1,25 and 1,5 GB VRAM. In the past very often we met double sized VRAM to choose with the same GPU. Today it's very rare or even impossible (the last GPU is 1050?). After the years VRAM is gamechanger.

      @@RafiXX Very much, in 2010 there was precisely 0% difference between 1,28gb and 2,5gb variants but decade later... let's just say that my 1040mhz clocked 570 was running some titles really good... untill it hits VRAM wall 2 minutes it an fps drops from 60 to 20-25. Still a great chip tho, keeping it on shelf for retro rig (together with HD5970)
      There was something similar with R9 290X 4GB & 8GB no difference even in 4K, and it stays that way even today, at least on PCI 3.0. That could be because 4gb isn't so ridiculously small as little over 1, And Hawaii had really fast memory second only to HBM present on Fury X

      @@Rex-tt1vk I'd be surprised if the 4gb 290x didn't struggle compared to the 8gb version at games in 1440p and higher. I had run out with VRAM with a 8GB Vega 64 at 1800p in a couple of titles although was driving 2 4k monitors at the time.
