I remember the first PC that I built myself was in early 2001. It had a 1 GHz Pentium III cpu with 256 mb of ram and a 32 mb GeForce 2 graphics card. The operating system that I used on it, I original had Windows ME on it, then later in 2002, I upgraded it to Windows XP.
I still have my GTX 580 3gb on my PC with an i7 870 I built back in 2010. It surprisingly still gets decent frame rates on lower settings in modern titles. I now have an 11th gen i7 11700k and a 3070.
Honestly I was using this gpu for budget gaming PCs I was selling. Managed to find quite a few of them for 25 USD and got quite a few happy customers with this card.
The old GPUs look so beautiful especially the gtx cards they had wierd but cool designs also the performance is almost the same as a gtx 480 😄 Also it was cool that you again choose a perfect cpu to pair with

I'm impressed of what this old GPU could do. Certainly didn't expect it to run games like Fortnite and GTA V at that amount of FPS, I was expecting it to get about 40-60 FPS on those two. Videos like these prove that having an RTX 3090 Ti is pointless in a lot of scenarios.

I still have this same GPU with an even older Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 CPU with 4 GB of ddr2 ram. The Q9550 cpu was released in early 2008 which is when Windows Vista was the latest and greatest operating system at the time.
@@sburton015 older games tend to be less demanding but adding 4GB ram will increase the performance. You're a legend in my eyes for using core 2 quad and ddr2 ram I respect you for that. What resolution do you use to play games?
@@Fernando-Rodriguez the monitor on that has a resolution of 1680 by 1050. It's a View Sonic monitor and even older, it says it's from September of 2006. I remember that the Core 2 Quad CPUs were high end CPUs in 2007. I do believe that the motherboard does at least support up to 8 gb of ram.
They have quite bit higher tolerance for heat being build on larger process node and if someone put a custom cooler on one (like in that case) they will probably run for few more decades before VRM finally gives up
10 years ago i bought a GTX 570, only to play Battlefield 3 at 1440p resolution. I saved almost a months pay to get it, and it was worth it, bought many hundred of hours of happy gaming :)
I have a triple slot 570 from Asus. The big limiting factor is the 1.28gb of vram Edit: and yes it runs very hot lol. I have to undervolt my gpu to keep temps reasonable.

Question, I have found a computer in trash in the streets and it has inside a GPU with an Artic Accelero TwinTurbo custom cooler, that looks exactly like that one but the wires of the fans have a different female connector - not the standard connector that you can fit in the male connectors in motherboards or even those built in the GPUs. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 1660S AND AN i5 10th, I had been planning on buying an RX6500XT because it costs lower than 1660S but many people whom I asked, suggested me to buy the 1660S even if there isn't any significant difference and it costs much, cause the RX6500XT runs terrible on Pcie-3.0, so i Decided on 1660S, Hope i did right.
Yeah, it's pretty good for eSports :) Unfortunately I can't recommend it anymore though, unless for a really low price. Better grab like a 950 which will consume a lot more for little more money than the 570!
was searching for cheap old gpu as backup. Couple days ago managed to catch r9 280x direct cu ii for 25eur, fan was rattling and dude said it could sometimes artifact but after restart it wouldnt for months, cleaned it repasted and used oil for fan works like champ, FAR CRY5 fhd ultra with 1175mhz core and 1750mhz memory oc it manages to get 62fps average. AMD finewine!
I still play on GTX 550 TI 😑 with ryzen. Only CSGO however still due to new map like ancient and cache and dangerzone you'll probably see graphic drop issues even at 4:3 resolution. It has 1gb vram too so that is a drawback for modern game.
The new maps are very very intensive yes but i think it shouldnt drop from 60s if you can play at 800x600. Its the sweet spot res for this cards i think
Also it was a wise decision to choose the i5 kryzzp since the GPU doesn't nax out all of the time as older GPUs when they max out in csgo creats input lag.

Question- are the issues with DX12 and some newer games loading due to the actual hardware, or could an driver update give an old card like this modern functionality? I realize it's not beneficial to NVidia to spend money on drivers for old hardware like this since they obviously want you to buy a new GPU eventually to make money.. but it does make one wonder if old GPUs are hampered more by the basic hardware architecture or by the lack of driver support.
Both AMD and Nvidia make their GPUs slower and less functional through driver update specially when a GPU is over 6 years old, that's why gamers need to push for open source drivers.

I had one, Gigabyte version. I overclock GPU to 915 MHz and VRAM to 4200 MHz. In Unigine benchmar i had 1 point more score than in my Gainward GTX 580. Of course I broke this GTX 570, probably VRAM gone :)
Yeah good binned 570 can win with 580 without much problem, other thing is when you put it against 3Gb variant of 580 (you also have 2,5gb 570s but they are much much rarer)
@@Rex-tt1vk I had but only 1,25 and 1,5 GB VRAM. In the past very often we met double sized VRAM to choose with the same GPU. Today it's very rare or even impossible (the last GPU is 1050?). After the years VRAM is gamechanger.
@@RafiXX Very much, in 2010 there was precisely 0% difference between 1,28gb and 2,5gb variants but decade later... let's just say that my 1040mhz clocked 570 was running some titles really good... untill it hits VRAM wall 2 minutes it an fps drops from 60 to 20-25. Still a great chip tho, keeping it on shelf for retro rig (together with HD5970) There was something similar with R9 290X 4GB & 8GB no difference even in 4K, and it stays that way even today, at least on PCI 3.0. That could be because 4gb isn't so ridiculously small as little over 1, And Hawaii had really fast memory second only to HBM present on Fury X
@@Rex-tt1vk I'd be surprised if the 4gb 290x didn't struggle compared to the 8gb version at games in 1440p and higher. I had run out with VRAM with a 8GB Vega 64 at 1800p in a couple of titles although was driving 2 4k monitors at the time.

i got two for free, im not planning on doing anything intensive and the games you tested that i might play work surprisingly well.
I bought one for $30 and it works well with me, it's not very bad, but the important thing is good, some games work and good for browsing
I picked up this gpu zotac edition for 12 euros and it worked amazing. Worth it :)
My son had a great time in r6 seige with it
still have my 580, was my first card and its not worth much so id rather hold onto it for the memories

It’s wild to me because this was literally my setup for about 6 months in a Dell optiplex 9020. The only difference was I had a GTX 1650.

Well big part is that Asus coolers on Fermi are pure crap, My Gainward GS sticks to 55-56 on stock clocks and 64 after OC (1040mhz)
