Something I don't see talked about enough in the context of green's raticate's death, is how the raticate acted on a spontaneous motion, as reflex to directly save green's LIFE, with Green failing to properly account and coordinate all his pokemon at once, not keeping their situations in mind in the moment, as he overinvests in the strengths of each of his pokemon invidually. Green likely percieves this moment as Raticate acting an emotional bond, which resulted in it's own death, and blames himself for fostering this bond. he makes up for this by simultaneously furthering the extreme, overdeveloped strengths of his pokemon, but ALSO coordinating them heavily like pawns on a chessboard - he never lets them out of his sight again. Which ironically, IS the REAL reason why he failed his Raticate. He failed to account for Raticate's personality and overall mentality towards battle, and failed to recognize his shortcomings weren't his lack of capabilities/competence, but him not managing his own mentality and personality which he imparted onto his pokemon. He rectifies the surface-level concept of Teamwork that his pokemon needed to survive moving forward, but STILL utterly fails to realize why his pokemon would act the way they do. It's absolutely BRILLIANT writing.
hey it's me, the translator for this! A few things to note at the end: the manga still actively is getting new chapters, with the most recent being this past Saturday. These new chapters were prequel chapters (0.1-0.3) and were released during comikets. Now that the prequel chapters are done, he stated that he will be going back to doing the main story chapters this next comiket (which is in winter). Was funny seeing this get recommended to me today lol, good video!

Festival of Champions made me respect Raticate so fucking much. I went from thinking it was just some fodder pokemon that I one shot, to wishing we could've seen more of him. Really want to see more chapters being released at a consistent rate, but this is a doujin so the author can take as long as they want which I don't mind just as long as they don't forget or drop the series because this is honestly one of the best fan made stories I've ever read.
I really thought the story behind Karen was very impactful. The author tied Karen more into the elite four lore using the limited information we have been given in the games, which was fantastic and has been shown in other characters in the manga as well. It was a very unique and refreshing take on dark-type Pokemon that changed my perspective on them. Being a fan of Pokemon my whole life, I really thought I understood something as basic as types. But this author taught me something new. It is extremely impressive.
YAS! I did find her very interesting in the pokespe manga, being one of the masked children, but she ended up being a background character, making only one tiny appearance in volume 43, and it was about bruno getting fat.
This doujin is pretty neat. I do feel like Green got a bit more "edgy", for lack of a better word, compared to his mannerisms when he started out in this doujin, but overall I am enjoying the direction this story is taking. I just wish it updated more frequently, because it's painful waiting for the next parts and not knowing if they'll ever be finished.
The artwork in this doujin is easily what stood out to me the most. It really does an amazing job at selling what the characters are going through. The absolute hostility in Pikachu's face when it first meets Red is conveyed so well I had no idea someone could even draw a Pikachu like that.
The art looks amazing and the story telling is top of the notch. I love how the father went did into fleshing out the starters box art trainers, game freak / the Pokemon company tried to do something like this with the let's go titles but failed. I will definitely give this a read at one point.

This manga brought back my love for this franchise that I had thought died after playing the first four gens and feeling fatigued. I spent more than a decade thinking I was too "old" for pokemon, but after having read this doujinshi all in one day, it feels like there's a fire that's reignited in me to both replay the games and tackle all my life aspirations with even more passion. It really moved me to my core.

Oh my god, am I happy this video popped into my recommended, what an evening I just had reading Festival of Champions. It's so gorgeous, and the story is so well crafted. It brought out a joy for consuming Pokemon that I haven't felt since I read the first few arcs of Pokemon Adventures. You mentioned you haven't read much of it, so I will go ahead and definitely recommend the RBG, Yellow, GSC, RS, FRLG, and Emerald arcs, since those were all amazing! It's a lot of chapters, but if you're up for it, definitely give them a read! I will admit I lost interest very quickly into the DP arc and never continued further.

Rhydon, Rock/Ground, Strong against, fire, electric, poison, rock, ice, flying, and bug. Arcanine, Fire, Strong against grass, bug, and ice. For Generation 1, that's 11 type coverages out of 15. Possibly more if you include TM moves, like Ice Beam for Blastoise covering dragons. Although I didn't realize Rhydon never learns rock or ground moves UNLESS you use TMs on it. Unbelievably dumb lol

Hey! I love FoC, too, but in my humble opinion there is one fan work that surpasses even it in a lot of aspects. From perhaps the best worldbuilding I've ever seen in a Pokemon work, to battles that glue your eyes to the screen, and a combination of game, anime, manga, novel aspects that add realism to the setting and the world. I'm talking about Traveler, a fan fiction literature work spanning over 1.5 million words (basically a series of books), it singlehandedly managed to reignite my love for Pokemon. I will say, the first 3-4 chapters haven't aged as fantastically as the rest of the story, but it's still quite enjoyable and if you manage to get past thatm the greatest Pokemon experience awaits!
For comparing Featival of Champions and Adventures, i think it's a bit unfair, because one is a doujin that the creator has put their heart and soul into for years, while the other is a much longer and more spread out manga with less time on each chapter despite a lot fo effort from the creators. This laaves Adventures as great, but inconsistent at times, while FoC is consistently great. I will say that Adventures' plots are overall better though, but that should be obvious.
Hey, you should try Pokemon Black or White (1 or 2). It has the Pokemon World Tournament where you can battle gym leaders or champions from all regions up to gen 5
Its seems that you read your comments (which is amazing) so I recommend watching Arceus: And The Jewel of Life. It might not top your favorite Pokemon movie, but it certainly is my favorite! And Dialga plays a pretty important role in it ;)

Pretty neat stuff. If nothing else, the art is indeed captivating. I’ll take a look… eventually.
I love this too much and I dont normally read mangas.
I guess Blue's ratitcate did die and that's why he was in Pokemon tower. Makes sense now and the reason he acts so powerhungry.
omg i never knew about this Festival of Champions and now I MUST READ IT ALL...cuz holy moly I enjoyed the Pokemon adventures manga tremendously
Best Doujin EVER
Thanks for putting me on
my god, i just finished 0.1 to 0.3. PHENOMENAL.
hey i love this guy hes not even that nerdy too hes js a normal fan
Preciate this comment man, yeah being a super fan of anything ain’t my thing.

Damn now i kinda wanna read pokemon manga
I absolutely adore the Festival of Champions.
when you open a video with that... go read adventure
peak rivaly
Festival of Champions is amazing.
3 is a solid movie, but it's a toss up between 3 and 2000 for me they both have number one spot in my book.
Hey, you should try Pokemon Black or White (1 or 2). It has the Pokemon World Tournament where you can battle gym leaders or champions from all regions up to gen 5
Thanks for the recommendation I was actually playing through the game now!
@@maliksyv6056 that's good to hear! Gen 5 is my favorite at the moment! Hope you enjoy it
If you are someone who is not into reading per se... what is the NEXT best Pokémon experience?
Did you like the Origins miniseries?
Me wondering how id never heard of it until I catch that its a Doujinshi
I hope the scarlet and violet manga is good as well
I love this manga man
Its seems that you read your comments (which is amazing) so I recommend watching Arceus: And The Jewel of Life. It might not top your favorite Pokemon movie, but it certainly is my favorite! And Dialga plays a pretty important role in it ;)
Thank you for the recommendation, speaking of movies I’ve analyzed Pokémon Movies 1-3! Please give it some support!
@@maliksyv6056 will do :D
@@maliksyv6056 just finished it and to be honest, I did *NOT* remember the Entei movie being that deep. I knew I liked it, but I’m surprised that it had such a strong message
Thank you for your support and I hope you’ll stick around for more content in the future. I appreciate your support genuinely.
@@maliksyv6056 you’re very welcome!!

I feel if you love The Festival of Champions, then sit DOOOWWWN & read the greatest official pokemon manga ever printed!
Still waiting on new chapters😔
Didn’t enjoy mystery dungeon?!? You mad man
The gameplay was not appealing. Kept dying on the first dungeon too. I was like 8 or sum
@@maliksyv6056 nah I hear that. I had just turned 13 when it dropped and absolutely loved it
Aren't blue and green's names switched? I thought red's rival was blue (gary)?
It’s different in the story
I've been meaning to ask, but where can you find the English translation for Red's back story??? Been looking for it while waiting for the continuation.
I found it on MangaDex which I have linked in the description but in the replies of my pinned comment I have another link.
@@maliksyv6056 Oh, okay. Thanks!
Pokemon 2000 4 life
true
This feels like DBM.
Speak of the Devil I was gonna make a video about that.
@@maliksyv6056 it's better than the one we got from DBS. Been reading DBM since I found it. Legit good.
I’ve got my gripes with one character in particular when I get around to making that vid
So is this story separate compared to the other mangas with green red and blue? Because I thought blue and red were boys and green was the girl?
Green and Blue switched names because I wanna say in the old game or manga manual Blue is the female default’s name.
I love this 🩵💕
Jajaja I was about to get highly upset when u said u released infernape!!!!!
also pokemon adventure manga are good too
