    The vagus nerve is a crucial component of the human body, extending from the brainstem to the abdomen, regulating vital bodily functions like heart rate, digestion, and immune response. Unfortunately, modern lifestyle factors like stress, poor diet, and lack of physical activity can lead to damage and overworking of the vagus nerve, resulting in various health problems.

    Thankfully, there are several natural methods to heal and strengthen the vagus nerve, such as breathwork and exercise. Breathwork, also known as pranayama, involves controlling breathing to promote physical and mental well-being. Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing and alternate nostril breathing are especially effective in stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system and activating the vagus nerve.
    Exercise, such as aerobic activity, yoga, and tai chi, can also boost vagal tone and promote relaxation. It's essential to note that healing the vagus nerve takes time and consistency, and addressing other lifestyle factors like diet, sleep, and stress is equally important.
    Justin emphasizes the significance of accessing the vagus nerve and Polyvagal Theory in his own journey of recovery from trauma. Combined with meditation and therapy, these techniques helped him achieve a sense of ease and balance.

    I wish it was that easy, years of people sapping away and corroding your energy leaves you broken, empty with debilitating illnesses dealing with excruciating pains that further destroys your willpower and emotional and mental well being...Its a moment by moment war within oneself that overides anything you are working on or working with...So, so broken and so, so tired 😩 nothing I do is making any difference...I wish I could feel your energy and connect with your teachings and truly believe...😢

      Hi Yasmin, change is really difficult, I understand that. Start small. Something today. The 100 Hour Theory states that if you can devote 100 hours to something over a year you will be 95% more efficient at it than the rest of the population. That brakes down to 18 minutes a day. Start small, focus on one change and build from there. 🙏

      @@JustinCaffrey ...Justin I've been on this journey for a very long time, I've always been a self help advocate...I suffer from debilitating symptoms of Fibromyalgia and OsteoArthritis...With all respect there is nothing you can mention to me I haven't worked on or worked with for years...I'm an empath, who has been and is still caring for and carrying several members of her family since last 20 years...The daily grind of unending appointments, nursing the sick, cooking, cleaning, looking after my own household at the same time and my 22 year old son who has Autism/ADHD and now for the last 3 years has been really unwell with Functional Neurological disorder...I am like a human sponge drawing in everyone's physical and emotional pain...I've been working on detachment but it has only created issues for me in trying to step back and allow others to step in n help those I care for outside my home, my intentions are met with anger, frustration, poisoned words and suspicious glances ...I suffer from insomnia, exhaustion and am in daily pain dragging my body around screaming and objecting...My suffering is seen as an excuse to ditch 'my duties'...One soul cannot carry so many people, their suffering, suffering of your child and your own body...
      I don't expect you to have the answer Justin...I guess I just needed to rant out😣... Apologies...I don't have anyone who can understand my situation or can help...My childhood conditioning of servicehood and caring for others is so deeply entrenched it's difficult to fully step back n watch whilst my extended family suffer because their children are too busy working to step in...My body is in a mess and doctors have given up...I've been trying to work on my Vagus nerve but still finding the process alittle tricky as I don't have that much time now to understand how it works...
      I know I need to reset my vagal tone as I've been on Fight/flight for most of my life even though I meditate almost daily, work on relaxation, affirmations and Tai chi, eating healthily...I am doing afew of vagus stimulating exercises like gargling and humming, gentle face n neck massages, daily grounding etc...But nothing seems to be making any difference...I guess I need to just stick with them...
      Apologies again for my ranting...Just feel like I'll never truly understand how to do what you talk about and how to implement it properly...
      Warm Regards
      Yasmin

    Hi Justin, the ANS is severely messed, basically stuck in extreme Sympathetic mode.
    Could you tell me why when i wash face with cold water or take cold shower it puts me more into SNS instead of PNS.
    Really confused now.
    Thank you Justin.

    • @JustinCaffrey
      @JustinCaffrey  Год назад +1

      Hi Maxi, cold stimulates the SNS, not the PNS. It used to improve Vagal tone, as it spikes SNS, and the breathing brings you back to PNS. The speed of the shift between the two is Measure of vagal tone. Down regulating for you is key. Avoid WHM breathing or any up regulating practices. Have a look at the 5, 10 and 15 minute breath practices on my RUclips channel. All focussed on nasal breathing, in and out.

      @Justin Caffrey Thank you Justin.
      Should I stop cold water on face or showers? Even if I am calm after the cold, I literally feel body going into SNS, where things shut down.
      Am stuck in extreme fight/flight/freeze, horrible feeling.

      @Justin Caffrey Justin could the VGN be so dysfunctional that a cold shower splash is doing the opposite of what it should?
      How bad was your situation, if I may ask?
