- What a race! That was incredible! What started with a fast, frenetic, eventful start finished with Sergio Perez’s first win in a 1-3 for Racing Point, with Esteban Ocon lying in P2 for his first podium.

Everyone’s focusing on George so much that they forget Sergio went from LAST TO FIRST. He passed the entire field. What a driver.

@@HansWurst1569 multiple drivers were on a one stop strategy, its only cos Aitken brought out the safety car that Mercedes decided to pit, the hards couldve gone to the end and did go to the end for ocon who only pitted once
@@HansWurst1569 perez was basically one stop. He stopped in the first lap, took soft and then had one more stop so he was driving on a medium/hard one stop stratety distance wise

Looking back from 2022, this race was really a historic one, changed many driver's career. Perez to Redbull, Russell to Mercedes. A life-changing moment for the two drivers.
And Albon, well
I think Belgium 2021 qualifying did a bigger impact on Russell's future, but this was important as well.
I think it was always likely that Russell was going to make it to Mercedes, this race (and his stand out moments from 2021) probably just meant Mercedes were sure he was the right man for the job.
And he really is the right man, he’s done a phenomenal job at keeping up with Hamilton and he’s only a kilo off being a three time winner with a much less competitive Mercedes.
Also the only race of Jack Aitken's F1 career
Russell was destined to go to Merc. They were just waiting for Bottas' contract to expire.
Absolutely stellar performance from Russell regardless! He did everything right.

Russel's overtakes after the double-stack incident was so impressive that it got me on my feet before screen. And Perez really made it from the bottom to the top. This race is just breathtaking.

Coming back here after Checo's announcement to leave Red Bull. This first win was superb for Perez when he had unknown to his F1 future back then and coming back from last to first.
That was one of the best and worst races of 2020 at the same time

I feel like the only reason races have been exciting this year is because of crashes resulting in a safety car. On terms of actual battles not been that many
Yeah wheel to wheel battles are rare, but chaos is an integral part of sport.
Yeah, the early crash and the late puncture ruined the whole race, nascar is more entertaining.
This time it's the mercedes pit crew who made that race exciting, because without this double stack pit stop they would have cruised home to an easy 1 2

The fact that Perez won from what was essentially the back of the grid and that he *doesn’t* have a seat next year is crazy.
I'd say it's more unfair, rather than crazy that people with too much money (Latifi, Stroll etc.) get in the way of REAL racing drivers, but money talks I suppose?
@@lunasilvermoon2283 of course! The sport has always been driven by money, as do most things in this world. It’s just unfortunate that money is often put above talent.
Then again, even those backed by money can prove their potential and worth as a driver. It’s a tough battle to pick who gets a seat :(
@@morrisonben Perez is one of those money-backed drivers. .a ''paydriver'' if you will BUT he does have to bring that money with him through sponsorships. Stroll and Latifi are richy rich rich by themselves without having to source sponsordeals.
Hamilton and Verstappen are two example who's skill and talent got them on the grid instead of a big fat wallet.

I think Russell completely proved the breed of driver that he is for everyone to see. In light of what he did DESPITE EVERYTHING working against him, from his engine losing power, to the double failed pitstop, to the puncture, he drives with the heart of a true champion and we can all see that.

Checo did this knowing he had no seat lined up for next seat. He pulled this incredible last to first win and by next race (last race of the season), he got a seat to RedBull. And the rest is history.
Merc should get Russell in for bottas. Although I like bottas he makes too many mistakes under pressure...Russell shows immense signs of someone who can take the mantle of being a race winner...He would be the perfect one to replace Hamilton when he retires.
Well thats the point, I think Mercedes needs someone who makes a few mistakes, just enough to still be second place and keep hamiltons back free. Also Bottas seems to be okay with his team always pushing Hamilton to win without making troubles.

Can we give Russell the proper recognition for his speed. His pace was fantastic. Even after being sabotaged by his own team (for the first time) he still returned his position and was ready to take on Perez. His team needed to sabotage him twice to rob him of his victory.

Is not about who deserved to win I don’t know much about racing but when I saw Perez had that hit last few lops end up 18th place then the courage to fight for 1st place

Some of you will remember this race for George Russel, some of you will remember it for Perez’s first win, and some of you will remember it for being the first race after Grosjean’s crash. I, on the other hand, remember it as the phenomenal Jack Aitken’s only chance at f1. He deserved so much more, especially in 2019 after his title hopes were ended by a certain Mahaveer.
I felt very sad for Russell, but very happy for Checo! He totally deserved the win and deserves the RBR seat
