Life in Bali: Galungan & Kuningan Nov 2021, Street Food + the Peace & Cheer of the Balinese

- (EN/Bahasa Indonesia/Bahasa Malayu/中文) Bali celebrated Galungan & Kuningan starting from 10 Nov 2021 recently & we went along to discover more! Galungan is one of the most important ceremonies on the Balinese calendar. In the Old Javanese language, the word Galungan means ‘victory’. This is a 10 day Balinese celebration of the victory of the Hindu god Indra, over the rebel King Mayadenawa, who had denied Hinduism in his lands. The celebrations culminate on the day of Kuningan celebrations at the end of the 10 days.
The Balinese believe that on Galungan, spirits, notably ancestors and deities, come down from their heavenly abode and visit Earth. The living therefore prepares bountiful offerings, rituals and prayers to await and welcome them. On Kuningan, the spirits and deities return to their celestial skies.
In between all the celebrations, there was also lots of Balinese Street Food happening! Yummy enak Bakso, Lontong, Sate Ayam, Ice cream and more!
This was a truly amazing cultural showcase to witness. We were extremely touched by how the entire communities and families in Bali just came together in these celebrations radiating peace, contentment and togetherness. The sense of community and openness was overwhelming and really enviable.
This was a wonderful chance to observe a most fascinating part of Bali’s unique culture and we are so grateful to be here! Hope you guys enjoy the video!

This content is educational. I used to teach elementary school in Denpasar for 3 years, every Galungan I was invited to the house of Balinese friends to eat fruit. Balinese people are very welcoming and friendly.
oh that sounds like a wonderful experience, teaching elementary sch in Denpasar. Thats an interesting area too i think we're planning to spend a bit more time down there exploring. There's this colonial-style avenue that impressed us a lot when we drove by one time....

I haven been in Bali during these ceremonies. The penjar are so beautiful and the steetd and village look beautiful 🙏🏽🥰 Barong a bit scary 😧😂
oooh we wanted to catch the barong performance but i couldnt find one in our neighborhood. apparently my friend said they only do it in certain districts hehe
Yes, not all of area in Bali have Barong. They usually perform when there is Piodalan (big commemoration) at the temple. But you can also watch Barong dance as a tourist performance, especially at gianyar area.

OMG songtian.... exactly right. When i was a kid our CNY celebrations in SG were so fun n everyone just gathers (even though theres a lot of cleanup after that haha) but now sadly everytime got PH people (even my parents haha) just book holidays out of SG.

heya!! oh no, its not that. Recently we hv been little piggies n just enjoying local food a lot so we r allowed to film w masks off within the eating establishment but generally we r still mask on when outdoors anywhere!!! this was just a non food episode haha
