    My 2013 WRX oil pickup had strings of RTV stuck in it. Glad I recently switched to a IAG oil pickup and pan with a gasket on the pan instead of RTV.
    Felpro also makes a nice oil pan gasket.

    That's scary. I have 2022 BRZ that I daily drive and haven't yet dropped the oil pan yet. When the Verus pan is available I will probably buy it and clean the pick-up then. Thanks for doing these videos.

      The Verus pan would be overkill for a daily driver

    • @adrenalinefusion
      @adrenalinefusion 6 месяцев назад +1

      You likely don’t need this. Daily driver gr86/brzs don’t have this issue. If you really want, you can have a technician inspect the oil like this guy does. All the RTV issues are related to people who track their cars hard. If you are tracking your car, you are likely going to have to do other modifications and earlier oil changes anyways due to the severe driving conditions you subject your car to.

      Overkill for sure. It will depend on the cost for me. If it's not a ton of money and I'm pulling the stock one off then I would do it. @@strangebirdwatcher

    • @artblackwood7936
      @artblackwood7936 6 месяцев назад +1

      I'm not convinced that the RTV is playing a huge role in the engine failures, but it could be contributing. I know of one failure where the guy was doing donuts at high rpms and lost his engine. There just isn't enough oil available in the system to account for any prolonged centrifugal force.
      And it wouldn't be the first time I put something on a car that didn't make a ton of sense for me:)@@adrenalinefusion

      @@artblackwood7936 makes sense if the pan is already off. My only concern would be if the Verus pan requires to remove the heat shield on the stock catalytic converter (which I believe the prototype 900brz mentioned heat shield has to be removed), what detrimental effects that has? I’m no engineer or mechanic, but I would guess that the heat shield protects other components in the engine bay from heat, so removing it may cause parts to wear prematurely. Not a big deal if you have a catless header or if you’re tracking mostly, but for daily use I don’t know if I would want parts to wear quicker.

    Subaru should consider minimizing the use of RTV by using anaerobic in places where RTV isn’t necessary like the camshaft carrier or the upper oil pan. RTV is also a major pain to clean well for a redo.

    • @hyojoonus
      @hyojoonus 6 месяцев назад

      @@dillon_r_hansen But that’s the point, anaerobic will cure only between the mating surfaces and not inside the engine unlike the RTV. Any excess would be washed away with oil uncured. I don’t know, I cannot stand using so much RTV to put an engine back together but it does work well when done right.

      Unless you are die hard boxer engine and/or symmetical AWD (which you probably are not), dont ever buy a Subaru.

      @DaDaDo661 3 месяца назад

      The Subaru gets worse gas mileage and not quite the build quality of the Honda and Toyota. I'd only get one if you love the winter characteristics of the car. I'm not too happy with Outback build quality wise and refinement wise. The suspension components are also cheaply made

      I used to believe the earth was round until I purchased a 2023 GR86, only to encounter random misfires for all cylinders, and I've never come close to redlining the car...never tracked etc.

      @@Mr_jz_12 you just broke my heart. Sir- I had no idea there was such a thing. I also thought Toyota was done with this platform. This was gonna be my last car lol by the looks at the MR2, I really don't think Toyota will release a GR86 type of car with a 3 cylinder engine, but that would be amazing. Seems like you would know better than I would.

    I own a 2023 GR86 with less than 5,000 miles, and has never been driven hard. I purchased a ODB2 sensor, and noticed that I have random cylinder misfire for all four cylinders at times. I'm thinking only when I first start the car. I don't notice them real time, but the data log shows the info. Maybe the shorter trips down the road, don't give the car time to burn off whatever. I also notice a small amount of smoke at startup somwtimes. Any suggestions?

      Yes that sounds terrible. Have the dealer fix it under warranty or at least have then document in on a repair order in case you have a engine issue in the future

      Have not. We did our first RTV inspection on a 2024 tS last week. But keep in mind 2024's are still MFD 2023
