I’m glad 964s are starting to get more attention lately. I love mine, it is just the right size, and with a just few mods these things are surprisingly capable.
Definitively my favorite generation 911. Having owned 4 964’s and driven maybe 20 different cars over the years, I feel like they fit me like a glove. Besides, the 964Turbo I recently sold, were the king of the showrooms back in 1991 when I got my driving license, so I’ll forever be connected to these lovely small cars. I reckon I’ll find a way to get another one into my garage before long. Actually strange not having one after all these years. Only downside is high maintenance as I’m a little OCD in keeping them absolutely spotless and their mechanicals in pristine condition. That can be a little exhausting when parts are not always easy to come by and specialist shops are 2 days drive away. My favorite thus far: 1990 C2 Convertible with the FVD 300hp kit and cup exhaust. Actually all my Carreras have been in this configuration and put down a much more significant sound and acceleration above 4500rpm than you got from this example Nick. If you get the Race kit instead of the Street kit, you actually elevate max rpm by 400, to 7200rpm and the initial rush at 4500 is superseded by a champagne “POP” at 5500 than runs like crazy all the way to 7200. A little known party-trick is to mix 30% of E85 into the Shell V-Power98/99. KABOOOM, and another 50hp can be felt by the “butt-o-meter". That is, if you have the Race version of the LB2-300 kit. Complete that with a RS-LWFW, cup exhaust, 100-cell sport cat, RS clutch, PSS10 suspension and a strut bar, you’ve got yourself a kick-ass Magnus Walker killing Outlaw 964.
I am lucky to own 1990 964 C4 and a 997.2 4S and I still really love taking the 964 for a blast. It’s slower and less refined but never fails to bring a smile. Thanks for the video.
Actually that acceleration from 80+ was pretty impressive to me. It's really the sensation of speed that I enjoy from older cars than anything else. Nice video, per usual
Little known that those vacuum lines to the lights never worked properly so Porsche ended up not using seals in the lights of the later 964s. Great to see you again my Kiwi 🥝 inspiration!
I loved mine. Bought one in '14 ('92 C2, 26k miles, Midnight Blue over Linen, absolutely cherry, etc) drove it for about a year then moved on...a sale I regret to this day. Mine had a Bilstein PSS coilovers and a Cup Pipe. They sound great with a Cup Pipe, so if you get a 964 spring for the Cup Pipe.
Nick , a huge thank you for reviewing the iconic 964. You’re such a gentleman Classic guy and above all a Porsche enthusiastic ! I enjoy watching your channel in the morning with coffee plus the classical music while watching the review fixes the mood in the morning 😄 Thanks for the hard work and effort to show us great cars 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I had one of these from nearly new in 1993. It was a red Carrera 4 and I loved it. Hard as nails, lovely to drive in and out of London every day. Solid and never had to worry about it being a soft touch. Excellent fuel economy too. The only issue for me was the offset driving position. You say light but the C4 was heavy as ----. Also in Europe the standard wheel was different to your mate's wheels as were the mirrors, which were the square flat jobbies.
Thanks for the review of the 964, Nick! It's my favorite Porsche. Really appreciate your sense of humor, honest comments and thorough reviews of Porsches.
I had a few of these over the years, great cars. Had their problems, like all 911s, but a great combination of old (shape, floor hinged pedals) with more modern upgrades like decent a/c , power steering and coil over suspension. I wish I still had them!
My buddy used to own the car in the video. He let me drive it, and it was an awesome experience. Even though sub 300hp transitioning from 2nd to 3rd gear on a highway ramp is still lots of fun. Demand for these must be high bc we barely made it around the block and someone offered to buy it at a red light.
Thanks Nick for a blast to the past. I’ve been driving new 911s since the mid-70s, and the 964 body is one of my faves. Awesome color. I’m waiting for Porsche to introduce their new “Shark Blue”.
Sort of. They were introduced in late December 1989 so you can count 89 but there was only a handful of car so the years of production were really 90,91,92,93 then part of 94. So let say almost 5 years!
Had one for a like three years. Was my daily driver. The car design is the most beautiful for me and it is very difficult to maintain. The engine just cools itself and leaks as if there is no tomorrow. Very difficult to drive and you arrive full of sweat even for a 10 minutes ride. The car is beautiful and needy
Thanks for that Nick. I haven't seen much of the 964. It is interesting to see one foot in the 3.2 world and one in the 993 world. That is a very nice example. Just a great car! F
Thanks for a great video as always!! This was the same ext color car I attended an import inspection while working overseas. Still remember how beautiful it looked and still does. Thanks again for the share.
That secret message :) :) :) Oh that is a beautiful car. The 964 have always been my fav 911. Looking forward to a much more detailed review of this car
I went back and forth between this and the 993. In the end I chose the 993 Turbo. I bought it 6 years ago when they were at the bottom of the market. I sold it last year for double what I paid in 2014. The 964 and 993 are both great cars
Got a 964 a few years ago from an older mechanic. Made sense because it was much cheaper than a used ‘08 997 was going to cost after my lease was up. It’s quirkier, slower and raspier than the more sophisticated 997. I’ll drive it however until I’m physically no longer able. 964s really have their own beautiful souls.
Wonderful car! Love the color! I have a 1992 C2 target, Polar Silver. Automotive love of my life! Such a total gas to drive, especially on twisty country roads.
Sat in one in a showroom about 20 years ago. Immediately after shutting the door, and feeling/hearing the way the door shut and the way the switch gear worked and the pedals... I immediately said wow I get it. I get why these are a thing beyond the hype and the way they look. Sadly, the new ones don't have that same loud CLICK when you open/close the door and the old ones are just more overvalued than a Chinese bank.
My uncle used to own one of these in the early 90s in the same city (Fairfield CT) his was a silver C2 with the same rims. Thanks for the video! Trying to find out more about this car.
I can't believe I haven't stumbled upon your channel before Nick. Even though your content is "not entertaining" (love your sense of humour lol) as a 964 Carrera 2 owner from Sydney, I just had to Sub!! Thanks heaps for sharing! All aspects of that video are absolutely brilliant! Cheers. Alan
You`re an artist nick. A damn good one at that. I dont know of anyone as good as you to portray a cars uninteresting and weak features in a way that sway they viewer into believing they`re interesting and just what he or she wants. Thanks nick. I now want to retromod vacuum hoses into my lamps....
Hey Nick, maybe you could do a video on how Porsches from that era benefit from the parts interchangeability. Much alike how that Californian photographer was able to pretty much build a bullet proof "RSR" with parts bin bits and bobs.
Agreed. It's great to see this car reviewed. A nice nostalgic ride in a 964. But in all honesty....not where i would go with my " 911 " dollars. To each his own.
Hey Nick, love the video 👍 Totally agree, "when it comes to Porsche, less is more": On the road, the simple sloping back and classic 911 silhouette are so much more appealing, than the bespoilered Motorsport wannabe look - at least in my opinion. Looks like your friend's got a real peach there!! Oh and he definitely ought to refit the fogs 😆
That’s a great car, Nick! Beautiful color too. A C4(S) version with rear wiper would be the one to go for, for me. If I only could find it, lol. Cheers, Irwin 🤙🦅
30 year nostalgia cycle in full force. Back in 1999 no one wanted these.(It was all 70's car nostalgia back then) Now every guy in his 40s/50s wants one of these....like myself
True. But a lot of us just can’t get excited about the increasing size and complexity of the newer Porsches, Ferraris, etc. The 911-964 were classically simple and feel like sports cars. The 864 is likely the most modern “vintage” car you can buy. A/c works fine, brakes are great, and it’s properly loud. I suspect this is more than a nostalgia cycle.
My Godfather had a 964, he said the maintenance was high back in the day, but he would daily it so he went through maintenance quickly. Or he just had a dishonest shop making money off him which is possible. He loved the car though.
That's my car. Previous owner dyed the seats and door panels black and blue. I've owned it since 2008. Recent engine build to 3.8ltrs. I'd post a photo but...
Just curious, have a beautiful 964 that I garage away from the house, but sometimes it just gets caught in the rain for a few days. A lot of people say not to cover the car outside however I have a custom fit cover that doesn’t seem to leave moisture underneath and protects from sun damage/ birds etc, soft inside. I do try to take off when there is no sign of rain What are thoughts on car covers for a 1990 Porsche?
Nick please never stop with the dainty kinda classical music, it’s the reason I subbed to you all those years ago
I LOVE the music!
Driving through the mountains in a classic 911 listening to classical music is sublime.
Tchaikovsky - Waltz of the Flowers.
I subbed for his broken 911, but stayed for his stuffed animals
Nothing like a Nick Murray video in the morning to ruin the rest of my day!
find a purpose of life dud he didn't force you to watch
@@markjustin4264 Lol just a joke running with the common theme of his channel section...I love Nick!!
I agree! The horror

Who am I kidding, you don't get invited to parties.

This car has a lot of those upgrades mentioned. Nick was too excited to remember all of the special features.
I miss these “simple” Porsche’s
I am lucky to own 1990 964 C4 and a 997.2 4S and I still really love taking the 964 for a blast. It’s slower and less refined but never fails to bring a smile. Thanks for the video.
Awesome, as a 964 owner delighted to see others love the "black sheep" it was for years.
Actually that acceleration from 80+ was pretty impressive to me. It's really the sensation of speed that I enjoy from older cars than anything else. Nice video, per usual
You are truly a purist. BRAVO! Great video...as always.
What a beautiful 964 example.
Thanks again for the video, Nick!
Little known that those vacuum lines to the lights never worked properly so Porsche ended up not using seals in the lights of the later 964s. Great to see you again my Kiwi 🥝 inspiration!
Just perfect sized! Stunning. This is the last 911 generation I want. The 992 blob is the antithesis to the 964
I loved mine. Bought one in '14 ('92 C2, 26k miles, Midnight Blue over Linen, absolutely cherry, etc) drove it for about a year then moved on...a sale I regret to this day. Mine had a Bilstein PSS coilovers and a Cup Pipe. They sound great with a Cup Pipe, so if you get a 964 spring for the Cup Pipe.
one of the best color combinations on one of their most beautiful cars. love the 964, hope to own one someday.

stunning configuration with the baltic blue and light grey interior.

lovely....i have an 89 carrera4 just brought her to the uk from the states. have owned her since early 90’s. glorious car
Thanks for the review of the 964, Nick! It's my favorite Porsche. Really appreciate your sense of humor, honest comments and thorough reviews of Porsches.
I'm a simple guy, I see a Porsche Carrera review, I click like.
I remember driving a 964 back then and being impressed with the new suspension . Nice cars
I agree 100% - with a few upgrades (suspension, engine, light flywhell pure riding pleasure for young-at-heart- old guys 🤩
Today I drove a 964 C4 with only 46k kms with brand new PS4 tyres and Bilstein suspension and it was a joy! So communicative and full of character
There is nothing like having friends with great classic cars like this 964. Great video, as always Nick!
The vacuum hose on the distributor is to keep ozone out, not moisture. The ozone degrades the distributor belt.
Maaaaan, what a beautiful car! I always wanted to see a review of a 964. Thanks Nick!
Absolutely love 964s. I especially love those wheels. Can't afford either one though. lol
I had a few of these over the years, great cars. Had their problems, like all 911s, but a great combination of old (shape, floor hinged pedals) with more modern upgrades like decent a/c , power steering and coil over suspension. I wish I still had them!
its a very personal opinion but this is the ultimate porsche for me
THIS CAR IS A SOLID 8/10
This comment was only a FRAGILE 4/10 but didn't merit a Nick luvvy heart
Could not agree more...Most beautiful 991
The 964 is my favourite 911 in terms of aesthetics. It looks like a little bomb on wheels.
My buddy used to own the car in the video. He let me drive it, and it was an awesome experience. Even though sub 300hp transitioning from 2nd to 3rd gear on a highway ramp is still lots of fun. Appreciated the video Nick! also the color combination of this 964 is spectacular - really like it (and I am usually the black on black type).
Beautiful. Love the 964. Seemed to be a real step ahead of the previous cars.. The previous generation had aircon, but it just didn't work very well.

really nice take on a wonderful example gorgeous car
The vent on the distributor was to prevent the buildup of ozone which would cause the distributor belts to deteriorate at a higher rate.
Nice one, love a great classic car review, cheers Nick

The Carrera 2 (964) is one of the best Porsches in a long long time. Best all around 911 by far.

In early 2000s, could buy low mileage 964s for $20,000. Turbos, all of them, all original. Now, just crazy.

Perfect color.
When you pulled away, that shift from first to second sounded and looked rough.
Great colour and stance.
There are some issues with the bushing in this car so every gear change is a little rough at the moment
Maybe a 964/993 is a better choice then a 992 if you decide to by a 911 again Nick. You seem to really like the car
