I don’t know if they still have the exhibit but when I went there in high school the one I remember is one about the joint work between Russia and America.

Aleks, looks like you had another fantastic day! I’m sorry there were things you didn’t get to see due to renovations… but looks like you got to see some items from NASA which is wonderful. Did you buy the SR-71 Blackbird from the gift shop?😂 (very cool plane!)

I was last at the Air and Space museum in 1986 and loved it as a kid. My great grandfather was on that China Clipper boat plane flight that was shown at 3:13 (he was the Assistant Postmaster General of the US during the FDR administration and therefore heavily involved in air mail). It was scary since the plane was so heavy with air mail that they had to fly under instead of over the not yet completed Bay Bridge.

Hi Aleks, glad you're enjoying DC. I'll break my comment up this time as I made a huge post on the last video with suggestions around DC and the YT AI bot didn't like it so deleted it. Thus I'll make a number of replies.

If you do not have one yet, grab yourself a DC metro card and put a few dollars on it. It will make metro and bus travel so much easier to visit places off the mall. There are phone apps that help with planning a public transport trip too. You probably have already figured all that out though already. On the mall, the Botanical gardens is a nice and relaxing place to visit, and being close to the Capitol building, makes it a good stop when doing a Capitol building tour.
Sorry much of the Air and Space Museum was closed. It houses even some Soviet space artifacts. That was at the top of my suggestion list, and it has the cheapest food on the mall at McDonalds. And it isn't cheap. The BEST food on the mall is probably at the African American museum now, though it used to be at the American Indian Musuem. Also pricy. The Musuem of Natural History is probably just as good as the Air and Space museum, but you should give that one an entire day. The Building Musuem off the mall around F street is usually a lot of fun to go to as well.
If you like art, you might like the Renwick gallery near the White House, and it's a good excuse to visit one or the other.

Suggestion: If you have time for a day trip off the mall, go visit Mt. Vernon in Alexandria. A tour there is fantastic as is just wandering around George Washington's plantation and museum. There is a mid-high end restaurant there too if you'd like to have a dinner in keeping with what might have been served at Mt. Vernon. Might be a tad expensive though..... but the menue is usually interesting.
The Flea Market at Eastern Market East of the Capitol is a unique visit with a lot of open air venders of all kinds of unique items and art.
Perhaps the best private paid entrance museum in the city is the Spy Musuem and it's an absolutely great one to visit. The zoo, like the botanical gardens, is nice and relaxing, but is a bit of a hike on the north side of DC, so it really eats a whole day even though it's kind of small.

And you probably know this, but if you'd like to see The Space Shuttle Discovery in person AND an SR-71 Blackbird, take the drive out to Dulles Airport to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Also a full day experience...

Wow, what an itinerary! You can be my tour guide! I watch talks on RUclips that are held at the spy museum. I find them absolutely fascinating.

@@ferrariguy8278 I sent Aleks some facts on the SR-71 Blackbird… I was hoping he would get to see one! Looks like he only saw one in the gift shop. 😂 (Plus the B-29 Enola Gay!) Not sure if he got to see the Apollo 11 Command Module… I recommended that too. I have a friend who worked at NASA (aerospace engineer) when the Space Shuttle was retired & he sent me a photo of him standing next to it while it was still in the hanger.
