    You've just saved me so much stress. This is my first car, 05 fiesta, and I know nada about cars. Just fixed this problem thanks to your vid. Thank you

    Brilliant - thank you!! I'm a scardy-cat luddite when it comes to anything automotive - but figured I could at least see on the internet why my cigarette lighter stopped charging my phone all of a sudden (which I discovered the hard way!). Thanks to your video, I managed to take out the shelf as you described, find the diagram, pull out the blue dead 15A fuse (which looks exactly like the one in your video), and I just ordered a pack of 10 new ones.

    Does anyone please know how to change the cigarette power socket to come on with the ignition not powered at all times? Want to leave things in there but not drain my battery when I’m parked up

    • @georgeh-w5041

      you can add a relay inline with the cigarette lighting and the ignition cable. the default position of the relay is open until a current (from the ignition cable) is passed through the relay which then closes the switch and thus closing the circuit to your lighter socket

    Hi, is that piggy back connector for a dash cam top right corner?|Does that come on with the ignition in that fuse slot? Thanks

    • @chris2002abc
      @chris2002abc  5 лет назад

      Yes it sure is, normally it is for powering up a trailer module for syncing up lights with a trailer, but yes I am using it with a dashcam instead, and will power on when I turn on the ignition, and power off when I turn off the ignition. Cheers Chris

      Actually when I tried it, sadly seems to be always on rather than only with ignition. Struggling to find a suitable only ignition on connection in sides car ( 2007 Fiesta)

    I bought a USB cig lighter adaptor. But problem is it stays on after the car is turned off.
    So I have to take it out after every drive.
    Is there a way round this?

    • @chris2002abc
      @chris2002abc  2 года назад

      I bought mine from Halfords, but any automotive parts shop will do. Just make sure you get the right amps according to the manual, or just have a physical look at the physical ones in the fusebox already

    No cigarette lighter on fords... it’s a power point

    • @infurno1975
      @infurno1975 2 года назад

      It's a 12 power socket (yes) but you can put a cigarette lighter into it and these started being used in cars in America since 1925 (including Fords), long before people needed power points for their iPhones, hense why we still refer to it as a cigarette light point/socket. Most mordern cars no longer come with the lighter or an ash tray. Further more it's worth noting if it had a flip-top cover over it saying 12v then you can say it's primary and only use is a power point as they're not heat insolated and would melt if used with a lighter, but as you see no cover on this one normally the lighter would be in there, also notice on the fusebox layout it has a picture of a cigarette because Ford know it as a cigarette light socket.

      At 2:18 he clearly says its the Mini fuse, 15 Amp. As for the instruction to remove the tray - I did EXACTLY like he showed - push the two tabs on the sides slightly inwards and the whole thing simply clips out - just like the cushion shelf in your boot. As for the colour - unless you are watching in black and white, or are colour blind, its fairly easy to see that its blue.

    • @DuboisDel
      @DuboisDel 2 года назад +1

      @@nowhereman5119 No you most certainly did 𝘯𝘰𝘵 do as he showed (removing the tray) pushing the two tabs inwards because: i) not only did he not clearly show his method on the left one but also ii) he didn't show the right side at all: so we do not clearly know if they done together, separately or what even. He is providing a commentary so this was his opportunity to simply say 'Hold this tab and its counterpart on the right and very firmly press them towards each other whilst simultaneously pulling the tray towards yourself', instead of this ineffectual modern nonsense vernacular "remove this badboy like so"...or whatever it was he said. I can assure you that the first time I ever removed this tray, I was positive it wouldn't ever come out because you simply have to give the tabs so much force that you first think you'll break it so you give up.
      In retrospect, I will concede that he does, eventually, mention the 15amp fuse but it was almost as an aside (probably why I missed it) but what he should have done was to leave nothing to chance by: a) Pointing directly at the cigarette lighter diagram icon b) Point at AND mention the faulty amps designation immediately upon locating it and c) Show the profile of the mini blade to the camera
      Remember, this video is for complete novices and dummies so it's worth taking just that liiitle bit of extra time to do things properly
