There may be some admirable things about this company, but the design of their capos is not one of them. They come tighter than would work well on any instrument I've owned, and the "adjustments" in this video require some serious strength.. I can't even get the boot off mine to reverse it. Biggest problem is, there are so many other companies with great capo designs that are a breeze to tension adjust quickly and precisely.
Agree completely. From the factory they are unnecessarily way too tight for ANY guitar. (Yes, I realize there's a "low tension" version.) If Kyser is getting asked so frequently why their capo is so tight, then why isn't it being addressed at the factory? And if it truly "IS" adjustable, why isn't this procedure listed on the package? Ohhhh.....because it's a completely hokey, "duct tape" repair that Kyser would never recommend to the masses. I challenge Kyser to write those instructions on the back of the packaging card. I bet that would do wonders for their reputation. Mr. Kyser, is my capo adjustable? It sure is, just bend it. Lol. I genuinely respect Mr. Bohannon for making this video to help out Kyser owners who are having issues, and I can also appreciate the simplicity and effectiveness of making "the bend", but I'm VERY surprised (and not surprised at the same time) that Kyser is actually endorsing this method. (see next post/comment down) It's likely just improving sales. EDIT: And don't buy FOR A SECOND that the bottom pad has been designed as a "feature" by Kyser to be "reversible". That is a "band-aid" fix that's applicable to almost every capo manufacturers products.
Mitch, thank you for this video! I had no idea that the rubber boot was reversible, so that's the first mod I performed on my Kyser. Then a little tweaking of the arm angle made this thing the perfect tension for my Godin two-voice guitar. I have 3 Kyser capos (as well as a couple other brands) and I love the K's for their quick on and off, but always struggled with the tension on some guitars vs. others. As with many things, a little minor adjustment was all that was needed.
Thanks for this! I was unhappy using my capo on my Taylor GS Mini. I thought the neck was going to snap under the tension. Ha. Glad there was a simple solution to flip the rubber boot for a little more clearance.
I had the opposite issue on my Cordoba Mini 2 - The keyser just did not have enough tension to get rid of the buzzing. No amount of fiddling would make it work.
I do occasionally adjust my Shubb capo and I don’t find it to be a problem. A capo that comes out of the box completely unusable like a Kyser is a bigger problem to me…
Thumbs up for me I stretched it out somehow just because I saw this and it made me fuss more with it (it's my spare guitar and spare capo but I'm glad it somehow tightened I kind of opened its mouth wider and jiggled the spring and voila !
"Well done!"?? You're actually happy that someone, let alone one of your employees, suggested BENDING your capo to get it to work properly for what are many thousands of customers? This is the fix?? I said above, if you (Kyser) think this is an acceptable solution to folks who feel their capo is way too tight, PRINT THIS ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE ON THE CAPO PACKAGING. Kyser, you know why your clothespin spring is so tight. HINT, look how it "mysteriously" loosens up after a few squeezings. Hmmm. It isn't rocket appliances.
Now that it's stretched way too much, the only way to make it tighter again is to completely disassemble the capo, or you have ruined it ? Because using force to bend open the spring rod is quite easy, but you can't "overclose" it to actually make it tighter again, can you ? At 30$ a pop, it would kind of suck to ruin one just because we tried making a "non-adjustable" capo "adjustable".. yeah
+Pop JustSick Bending it back works fine. They are designed to adjust this way. I have 3 of them, all adjusted in this same manner. I use 3 different brands for different things, but Keysers are my favorite to use live.
As a classical guitarist, I was wondering how I could turn my knock-off $3 acoustic capo into a classical capo by doing this. Unfortunately, I got what I paid for, and the boot snapped off after bending the slightest little bit. Half-heartedly hoping the superglue holds😬 Looking into an adjustable Flanger right now. Lol. Lesson learned 😂😂 Edit: superglue will NOT fix a busted capo 😂😂aaarrgh
The Kyser company stands on "godly principles" ???? My Kyser capo broke and they won't honor their "lifetime warranty". That doesn't sound like "godly principles" to me.

Thank you so much for this video. I have had this capo issue for a while and finally decided to look up how to tighten.
Thank youi for sharing Mitch, I needed this.
So simple! I wish I had found your video years ago... thanks!
Or buy one of any of a number of capos actually and sensibly designed to be adjusted.

This fixed my problem. Thanks for this video.
What do you recommend for 12 string guitars? Thanks!
This is great info, I had no idea. Thank you!
Worked great for me. Thank you!!!
I believe the second bending wasn’t a good adjustment mechanism as it is not a stepwise adjustment , nor it is reversible ..
Capo just snapped trying to adjust it...
Wow this is great info I never knew, Thank you Sir !
My see through plastic thing won’t come off I need to lower tension pls help
My Kyser capo just snapped... thanks
Mine too. It was the cool Daphne Blue Fender crossover one, too.
Thumbs up for me I stretched it out somehow just because I saw this and it made me fuss more with it (it's my spare guitar and spare capo but I'm glad it somehow tightened I kind of opened its mouth wider and jiggled the spring and voila !
Great - I reversed the rubber boot and used a multigrip plier to adjust the handle. Now I can operate it with one hand ;-)
Very nice. Thank you. That was very helpful.
Really great video! Thank you!
cool video man thanks for the info
Well done!

+Justin TenCate interesting.. and noted! thanks ;)
Yeah, my Kyser one snapped when I did this
