    The Yanggakdo Hotel is North Korea’s most famous hotels, and one of North Korea's best hotels. It is 47 storeys high and 170m above the river water below.
    A range of people from tourists to friendship groups, delegations to journalists all stay in this hotel, making for a lively mix of people and sometimes a very busy hotel. The Yanggakdo Hotel has the largest range of leisure activities of any hotel in North Korea.
    To the right hand-side, you can find the tea and coffee shop. This is a great place to hang out of an evening, offering a range of drinks, snacks, and cocktails, not local and imported. They even have their own micro-brewery here.
    At the communications desk, you can make international calls and send postcards abroad.
    The lobby floor also contains a range of restaurants, as well as the Yanggakdo Casino. Here it is not allowed to take photos.
    This one is leased to a company in Macau and it hosts a range of activities designed for the Chinese tourists who provide the majority population of the Yanggakdo Hotel at most times.
    Most floors are made up of standard rooms with en suite, two single beds, a table and two chairs, fridge, water heater for hot drinks, etc.
    Fairly standard and a bit dated, having clearly missed out on the renovations, they are nevertheless kept well and give a great retro feel to it.
    The furniture has been here since 1992 and the chairs could be better made.

    Not sure who You’re working for but I feel like you’re normalizing the brutal North Korean regime by making these videos. This hotel was built as a propaganda and an attempt to hide the harsh reality of the vast majority of North Korean residents.

    • @ZoeDiscovers
      @ZoeDiscovers  3 года назад +6

      I work in North Korea tourism but don't get any money or anything for these videos; I just make them since I think that North Korea tourism is ethical and therefore I promote it myself. With these videos.. Yes, I suppose I am trying to normalise North Korea a bit. But not normalise the regime or make propaganda, but instead just show a different aspect to north korea, without rockets or camps or politics... This video, I admit, is a bit 'propaganda', but the Yanggakdo is a popular search term so tbh if I want to get my channel out there then I need to do some of the popular stuff too! I don't aim to spread propaganda but instead just take you on a tour of the hotel.

      hahaha if those wires could bug that hotel room I'd be seriously impressed. The rooms haven't been renovated for years and those radios are OLD. I've inspected them so many times and honestly, I'm impressed when they turn on.

    • @user-iu2kq7nx8u
      @user-iu2kq7nx8u 3 года назад +4

      Yea the radio is definitely a spying device. Thats how it was in socialist Romania which were allies of NK. Many to this day in romania suffer from mental illness and paranoia because they fear theyre always listened to, homes and apartments would all be bugged back then and neighbors had incentives/rewards to snitch on you if they heard you with the wrong ideas, opinions or religion. Family members would then be arrested and go missing forever or be tortured. Everyone was also required to have the radio running and TV would only have 1 channel of communist propaganda

    • @user-iu2kq7nx8u
      @user-iu2kq7nx8u 3 года назад +2

      @@ZoeDiscovers its common knowledge to anyone romanian from that time, socialist aka communist romania is very recent history from 30+ years ago probably one of the most newer history unlike ww2 or ww1 for us younger folks, many lived through it and are in their 40s 50s 60s 70s still alive. Children would stay in breadlines,milk,oil,etc, the more siblings the better chance of getting stuff so the families could survive, many would die from hunger outside of the capitol daily. The capitol is the only place that can prosper and have jobs which really create too much product that isnt sold so its actually negative yearly profit but people in the capitols have jobs so their opinions are great about the system not knowing it wont last forever. Countless people including my own relatives got tortured and spied on, went missing for wrong opinions by a form of shadow secret police a system with incentives if you spy on your neighbors on behalf of them which is why many still suffer from paranoia there or have some sort of mental illness unfortunately, for example many still fear to this day to open a business because they still fear revenue/profit is a crime. Its really not a conspiracy when many report they would even hear beeping noises like a recording and many had these radios especially in bigger cities, some people would "have opinions" and say things in their apartments and then be arrested, so what happened is a culture of many resorted to whispering not even full sentences just hint at stuff due to that inside of their own homes. The only reason I'm in the US is because many generations were displaced due to communism, however things are looking much better current day than in the US so hoping to move back just thought id chime in because outside of the capitol reality would make you cry and scar you. But for example many in bucharest actually think life was better under communism, but only because they had jobs, anywhere outside of that was a tragedy

    Thank you for sharing this presentation of the hotel. What has me fascinated most about the Yanggakdo Hotel is the tailor shop on the third floor, offering official North Korean suits that can be done in just a few days. As a tourist, I would wear a suit and tie (I enjoy such fashion as a whole) to be an example of a guest on his best behaviour while in the country, but to wear the North Korean suit would also be a fascinating experience. Hopefully someday, relations between North Korea and the US can improve to where tourists are allowed back in, and that such visitors will show good manners as guests.

After all my thoughts I think this video of urs has convinced me enough to top my bucket list to visit North Korea later on in my life 🥰 only 16yrs/o but Ive got to admit that you dont have to be an influenced Communist supporter to explore Communist states, while they may technically be "bad" as claimed by those western medias both ideologically and logically ie like their perspective in ruling, Im definitely certain that Capitalism proves to be just as bad where corruption lives on, the richer-rich issues just to name a few. Though everythin falls to the way we (want) view them. Gotta say ure one of the handful of lucky beings to have been to that country, next up is trying to get myself aligned on achieving my dream to set foot on their soil one day later ^^ thank you for motivating me Miss Zoe =D I feel so fortunate coming across ur channel, youve just earned urself a new subscriber whos vibe was long lost in the 60-80s

      Привет Zoe =D! real sorry for the time gap between the time of turning in my comment and replying to you, Im a Malaysian whos time schedule has met a clash ever since mco was reintroduced x) Reading ur comment truly saddens me realising how society tends to look down at those who runs a business with North Korea, especially people like you =( Under no circumstances should you as a tour guide whos promoting travels to North Korea be seen as someone bad, I get ur point in taking the job as an opportunity for the benefits all sides, this applies to what you (personal experience in life) the North Korean people (developing their own economy for the goods, improving their social quality towards foreigners etc.) and the world (an opening for foreigners to explore North Korea) gets at the end of the day as progress plays, all I can say is only time will manifest success on that. Things started to hit me at a personal point where I got teary especially ur view in connecting people together, Im a people person too, afterall North Koreans or not they are humans aswell, further isolating them from the world simply proves inhumane :( I really hope the world starts lookin at the good things about North Korea instead of only focusing on the less/least favourable aspects before judging them. The country is slowy but surely trying their best to live up to good standards, even supreme leader Kim Jong-Un mentioned in his speech at the 75th Anniversary of the Workers Party of Korea that those weapons ICBMs and so on are produced in order to defend its country from foreign powers who threatens them, not to threaten the world for no reason, thats a sign of good progress :) This aligns well when taking logic into account as North Korea is pretty much standing on their own ever since the USSR could no longer back them up when the need comes as the Soviet Union fell apart. For those who understand, North Korea manufactured mass produce of weapons in order to defend their country like what every other country does. Only those who literally lives as by western propaganda by simply accepting what the western world says about North Korea would think that the country is bad which unfortunately plagues a big chunk of society in todays world >_< All I can say is the world hasnt properly understood North Korea therefore all the hate and salty comments people out against you are just acts of immaturity, itd never be ur fault cuz youre doing this for whats good for everyone and you understand life better than them, clearly its their problem for judging you and ur job point blank over invalid reasons. We your supporters will always be here for you Ja ^-^♡ The nature of life is filled with mixed opinions in one another where others may agree or disagree on our decision(s) which has led this issue to forming a common misconception we have today where one's dream/target/goal is dissolved just because of what people are going to say about them achieving it, and we dont want that to happen to you, "dont let others be the reason that you arent able to make the most through out the journey of your life"

      Hi @@TheNitroM1 =) I respect your thoughts but you also have to understand that neither me and Zoe are communist nor are we a heavy capitalist supporter, all we want is to enjoy life our way which may come a lil sketchy for some to even think of, just like how you view us, shes there doin the job she enjoys for the sake hope to help the North Korean economy (for whats good) and the people (people as in the citizens) and Im lookin forward to visit that country to enjoy the sceneries, we are not looking forward to fune for nukes. Taking a trip to NK doesnt mean that we're supporting the regime, true that we dont know where our money goes to but fingers crossed its channeled to further developing the country for whats best for everyone and even if it did go to military use, again Id like to mention that our intention on spending the money is to enjoy life. + North Korea is on par as bad as countries who down human rights to such an abuse where their very own people are suffering till they meet death naturally or by another man's hand. Not gonna point out the country names but do take a stroll through the internet n look up the affects of things lile corruption, millions of innocent lives are also dying & suffering from that in a more low-key sense to the world, if you get what I mean (again am not gonna specify what country is in view but the hint is huge/leading countries). Although NK is one of the most strict country in the world, if you think about it they are not as bad like how the media tends to potray them as, if you wanna argue how they treat foreigners (not saying that you did) then youre going off track cuz they have their own rules for outsiders to follow ie respect the image of the country thay r visiting, keeping insults off limits etc. like every other country, Im not protesting and I know this is a sensitive topic to bring up, take Otto Warmbier (Rest in peace to his dear soul) for an example, actions were taken against him because in the NK's perspective, he violated the rule by taking down a North Korean poster, though everyone including me agrees that the punishment he faced was insanely harsh, not to mention what led him into those tortures was such a minor mistake yet the punishment he was sentenced to was as heavy as what war criminals faced/should face. Basically what Im trying to say is that we want to live life the way we want which decisions that were made (by us) in order to do so can sometime make others unhappy due to clashes of eachothers thoughts
      Edit - my comment to your indirect human rights topic "youre supporting a cruel mass murderous regime that starves, tortures and kills millions of innocent people": yes we should acknowledge what made millions of people who suffered to their own death there, but you are well aware that there are still innocent lives that are cut off from the world, living in continuous poverty? Tourism is one of the least harmful way in opening up a chance for them to increase their country's revenue in things that will improve their people's life whilst not posing threat to the world, this is their chance to have a better life :( if nothing is done then Im affraid things are most likely going to stay the same way where more people will die partly because us outsiders are only going against them cuz of the general image of North Korea, only a fraction of people are talkin about the suffering population of the North Korean people

      @@парень-водка Thanks for taking the time to address @TheNitroM1's comment. And I have to say you represented what I'm trying to do and that pretty well! All I can say extra @TheNitroM1 is have a look at my is it ethical to travel to north Korea video. I address some things in there. For sure, my channel might seem a bit pro north korea, and when I do videos like this one for example, it seems like i am just promoting the country. But unfortunately I have to do content like this to reach a wider audience of you all and put my message out! because there are two types of content that do well on north korea, stuff like this on famous things like Yanggakdo or Ryugyong hotel, and stuff like "look how scary and awful it is". I am not going to do the latter so instead I must stay with the former, which means my channel looks very pro north korea sometimes. But my message is mainly to not see north korea for the missiles and starvation that the media represent it as, but rather see it for the humans that live there. And I remain strong in my belief that tourism is a positive thing in the country. So that is my ultimate goal in promoting tourism there. Shaping our minds and making us see the human side of it, and also open up the people of north korea's minds in this way too

    The problem is that since the hotel is always almost empty, you cannot use most of this services (I saw other videos on this hotel). Plus if you go abroad it is better to see the place in which you are instead of wasting time playing bowling or doing things that you can do in your own country. Btw at least the espresso machine is italian (Simonelli) so the coffee should be good. :)

      Hm I dunno the hotel is super busy over summer and other holiday periods - sometimes it's even fully booked. All the services are open and if there are no staff there because it's the day time and not busy you can always get one of them to come over and open it for you - but it's rare they're not open to be honest. I'd agree with you it's best to be out anyway though!!! And the coffee is good. But expensive!

      Ahhh. The Yanggakdo, I think it’s one of those places, unless you’ve been there you just can’t really describe it.
      I did like being able to buy beer in just about every corner of the hotel!
      Good video!!

      She lies. She said in another comment on here she’s a tour guide in North Korea sometimes. So she claims she does it bc they’re easy videos that aren’t LOOK HOW CRAZY NK IS. but the fact she won’t make those videos kind of explains itself no?
