I mean, the thing that makes the DPRK so fascinating (and also terrifying) is that it's literally the closest real world equivalent to something like 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or A Brave New World. Like, people can shit on their own governments and government surveillance in "the free world" all they want, but literally nothing comes close to this. On top of that, their whole recent tourism efforts are so dedicated to maintaining the illusion they desperately want the world to believe despite all of the cracks in the facade being obvious and almost nobody buying it. Like, these are some of the nicest living quarters in their entire country... and they look like 2 1/2 star hotel from the 70s. THINK ABOUT THAT!

Then there are first world countries that have an ok government, and they have some medium cities, and the rest is filled with disease and poverty, and perhaps some human rights issues. Then there are developing countries. These are the ones that have a nuclear program equivalent to the US in the 60s. Their computing technology is about 5-10 years behind most first world countries. They have some really nice cities, but still lots of poverty. This is where NK is.

The light inside your room operated outside in the actual hotel hallway brought back some memories. Outside my old staff housing for a hotel I worked at, my main light switch for the light in my room was controlled by a switch outside the kitchen, next to 2 other switches that operated the kitchen and the "recreation" area outside my room (just weights and stuff). So when a housemate wanted to go into the kitchen at night/early morning or use the weight set, he would always turn on my room's light and wake me up, before shouting "SORRY!". I swear I was close to becoming a murderer on some days
If none of you have noticed it's a second door just beside every hotel door. As I understand it, every hotel room got a small 'surveilance room' just beside it. Kind of facinating to see how obvious it is.
The second door is another room like it was shown at the end. Also it would be really inefficient for each room to have its own surveillance room especially one adjacent to it.

regarding the shower - it's some classic japanese style I think: First you wash/shower standing OUTSIDE the tub, THEN, when you're clean, you soak yourself into fresh, hot water in the bath tub. That's why the shower is connected to the sink and a drain in the floor.

in all these videos in north korea, all the people filming always go into these places that even i wouldn't go to in most western countries, like just walking around random different flats rooms that are dark and closed doors, like no wonder guards get all sus when people peep around

Is it worth risking your life to make videos like this? It is amusing and very well done, but I couldn't help but be a little bit frightened for the gentleman filming and narrating, what with Otto Warmbier and that awful fate that awaited him for taking a poster down. The second door is another room like it was shown at the end. Also it would be really inefficient for each room to have its own surveillance room especially one adjacent to it.

I'm thinking your room foyer light has a hallway switch so if your light was left on longer than security thinks it should be; they can turn it off...lol. regarding the shower - it's some classic japanese style I think:
First you wash/shower standing OUTSIDE the tub, THEN, when you're clean, you soak yourself into fresh, hot water in the bath tub.
That's why the shower is connected to the sink and a drain in the floor.
Above practices are not exclusive to the Japanese. It's how everyone in East Asia (or at least used to) take baths and shower.
Looking at that tv will immediately trigger an epileptic fit ,love that huge gash in the fake plastic wood flooring on the entry way ,you should ask the service desk for a fridge that works and film the 3 stooges aftermath .

+LordDavid04 Yes, I heard that too. However, I didn't see any in my time there. Also, I believe you can't actually access your own Gmail or Exchange email accounts. Instead, you'd be emailing through a North Korean-hosted email provider.

in all these videos in north korea, all the people filming always go into these places that even i wouldn't go to in most western countries, like just walking around random different flats rooms that are dark and closed doors, like no wonder guards get all sus when people peep around

Is it worth risking your life to make videos like this? It is amusing and very well done, but I couldn't help but be a little bit frightened for the gentleman filming and narrating, what with Otto Warmbier and that awful fate that awaited him for taking a poster down. Hopefully all was well and he didn't find himself in a prison camp. In any event, I would recommend he not return to North Korea as they might have been none too fond of his video.
