The coolest part of a motorcycle for me is how every different engine type, size and exhaust sounds different and unique which gives every bike a uniqueness to it. Every bike has the potential to be someone's favorite, everything is beautiful, just not everyone sees it.
When I was in high school in the late 80s I had the option to take a motorcycle repair class half a day at the local Vo Tech that got me started in a career im still doing today. Honda donated six CBX motorcycles and two of the CX650 Turbo and I guess they donated to tech schools across the country because they didn't sell. Odd to thing about great bikes hitting the market at just the wrong time like the gen 2 V Max or the Honda Ruin.
Omg back in the early 90s my buddy had a charcoal gray CBX it was the naked style it had carb work and headers, I had a red and black 1983 GS1100E suzuki rocketship! I could get him off the line and up till the top of 2nd gear he would pull around me. Wow good old days

Bought my '79 CBX in 1983 for $2800.00 OTD from a local Honda dealer, still have it. I also owned one of these 1982 sport touring bikes and a 1980 black CBX as well. Sold the '82 & '80 for a reasonable profit in early 2000's. I also belonged to the Int'l CBX Owner's Association but won't have any dealings with them now for personal reasons. My '79 CBX is now turbocharged and will still put the fear of God into you if you boost it. This bike is one sweet ride, had my share of CBX's as well, so I know. Barrel of fun to synch the carbs! '82 carbs had screw-in pilot jets, so easy fix there to install #38 jets from a #35 jet. If you can find the Hondaline case guards, that would be a welcome addition!
That's beautiful. I remember when they came out with the fairing and luggage and I really loved how they look. A guy I used to ride with let me ride his original CBX the year they first came out and I loved the way it felt and sounded. A few years later he had a newer one and we swapped out for a bit, ... me on his CBX and he on my CB1100F, and we were both totally impressed with each others machines.
I always wondered why The U.S never got the CB1100R, The homologation special that dominated production racing in Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Oh wow that is the best one I have ever seen. I recently looked at one in the Speyer Technical Museum in Germany and it was beautiful, but yours blows it away.

I was working at a Honda dealership in 1982-1986 We had no idea what to do with this bike as we were in Hawaii We took off the bags and put struts and a wheelie bar on it and proceeded to put up 11 seconds at our local strip I wish I knew now what I didn’t know then

Thats a fantastic example! I modified a prolink back to twinshock using 1100 Zephyr suspension however it took me 6 years from start to finish. I forgot where everything went so i bought a stock prolink to use as a guide! Side by side no one believed the twin shock was a prolink.
That looks identical to the one that I saw in Hadley Massachusetts, a town over from where I live. I believe it was last summer. Some guy and his wife. I talked to them and told them how I own 72 cl350 and an 81 CX500. He was riding this exact bike in this exact color and his wife had a Yamaha xs400 if I recall correctly, in white. I wonder if it's the same bike! I was utterly speechless in the presence of it!
Boy, nice bike! I was lucky to drive one in 1992 here in Portugal - compared with my 2 cilinder Honda CB 400 Super Dream (1981) it run smooth like a Rolls Royce (more cilinders). But please, play safe and use a helmet ! And gloves and a jacket, etc, etc...
I remember doing spark plugs in that as a kid. Fucking eh it was tough, I also remember my friend getting on the bike to be cool (we were much younger) and it tipped on him and all he could do was yell "DAAAAAAD!!!!!!" Lol
as proud '79 Silver CBX owner from '84 (brand new in the crate) to '94, I approve 🤘 Such a beautiful job on preservation/restoration 😁 I had to put TWO base gaskets in mine (they sold me old stock cardboard the first time, the second one had a neoprene reinforcement....grrr) it would pop on the left side of the cylinder head. I've got plenty of experience on my old Triumph's doing rings, valves, etc. So......I was amazed that I could slide the cylinder barrel back over the pistons with zero ring compressors :-) Perfect chamfer at the bottom 👌 Other than rejetting the carbs for my pipe, never had to touch them. Sold it for what I paid for it new...$3495...Retail in '79 was $4500. (had quit my job and started my own business....should of robbed a bank 🤦♂) 20,000 glorious miles

Goes to show the NOS stuff is all perception. Guy's will live and die with bikes in a crate. I'd rather have a beater and ride it. Throw me in the casket with it if you must, it would be less wasteful than sitting in a crate!

I made an offhand comment that I wish I had gotten a '79 CBX when they had come out. He lit up and pointed to a brand spankin new '79 CBX on the floor. He also mentioned they still had one in the crate. 😁😁 Told them to put it together, hell yes!! I put all the stuff listed above on. $1000 cheaper than new, and my dream bike. win win as far as beaters, I have a '72 Triumph Daytona as (still) a regular ride. oh, and an '18 KLR-650 I bought new. no CBX, but perfect bike for me this time in my life (old)
thats amazing condition and so well kept , but a bike that old , heavy and fast new brake hoses have to be part of the next upgrade package .they do have a service life .
I Owend The 79 ,First Year CBX ,Stage 3 Jet Kit & A 6 into 1 Pipe & it sounded like a Ferrari going down the road & I did some R&D work & Ordered a couple different sprockets from a sprocket specialties ,playing with Gearing & The 32 teeth Sprocket & the bike did 55 MPH in First year & 30 MPH in Every Gear Above 1 Gear ⚙ & of course you have to have the Sprocket Tighten Tuff Anodized & it lasts Forever 🤜🎯🤛 & iF you didn't Know Honda only offered 2 Sprockets From the Factory For The CBX A 35 & 37 & I Tried Both With The 630 Chain of Course 32 is The Magic # Try it & See ,it's Nice To Have A Long 1 Gear ,Very Fue Bike's Could Keep up 🤜😁🤛

We had a CBX just like this on the showroom floor at Norwalk Honda-Yamaha in Connecticut about 1988-89. Same color, saddle bags etc etc.

So true. Bought a brand new metallic grey C model for £2698 on the road. Road it hard for 10K miles and regret selling it to this day.

My best fiend was the service manager at the Honda shop in 1982, he tuned the carbs and let me have a spin. 85 mph in 2nd gear in my hood.

You should start a channel for the manic mechanic. Just have him do things like how to rebuild the carbs, forks, etc. Bet it would do well!
