One of the best games ever in the sport. Mississippi State was a team who, in the span of five years, went from barely winning 10 games a season to being one of the top teams in the nation. At the time not one McDonald's All American was on the roster. Small town girls from cities like Carthage, Mississippi and Birmingham, Alabama, girls that likely no other college teams were bothering with recruiting. They get blown out by 60 the year before. They come back focused, with a game plan that they didn't deviate from. The defended, they made shots, they played within their system, and they never got rattled or shaken. They believed they could win. They went after every 50/50 ball and created extra possessions. They made shots when they needed to. It was only fitting that they win the game. I watch this game often because it was just that phenomenal
I remember that night I was at Buffalo Wild Wings in Southaven MS and when she hit that shot the whole restaurant went crazy. It was an awesome experience.
Dare I say - this game really changed women's CBB for this generation. It released the stranglehold that UConn had - they haven't been the same since, and so many other teams have stepped up. Notre Dame, South Carolina, Stanford - the women's game leveled up here. And that's no shade to UConn and what they've accomplished. But the "table" has a lot more people around it now.
I was there close to the court and it all happened in slow motion. After she made it my dad and I stared at each other and started screaming in each other’s faces 😂😂 jumping around like crazy people 😂
As a UCONN fan, I could watch this over and over. This is why basketball is better than football! Can't wait for the rematch in the 2017 - 2018 season. And this was one of the best games, men or women's!
I remember when this happened... I was asleep AND my husband decided to watch this game in the bedroom. He screamed at the top of his lungs and knocked over a table in the bedroom. It scared me almost straight to heaven!! I jumped out of bed because I was sure that someone had broken into the house... he looks at me says "sorry baby... but since you're awake, look at this!" *husband rewinds shot on DVR *wife leaves room to sleep on couch in anger... and a bit of residual terror.
Easily a TOP 5 Moment which will still be a classic half a millennia from now. This EPIC MAROON event is right up there with (not in any set order) 1] the ‘96 Men’s Basketball Team DESTROYING Kentucky in the SEC Tournament Final in the Superdome & then making a Final Four appearance in the Big Apple the next month; 2] the 2014 (the 100th year Anniversary of Mississippi State football) defeating the #2 ranked team, Auburn, at Davis Wade Stadium, as even in front of ALL of America to view, Lee Corso & the Gameday crew (minus Herbstreet) all picked the Dawgs to win & before the sun set on that Fall October Sunday afternoon, State was ranked #1 in both the Associated Press & Coach’s Polls for the 1st time ever; 3] This one is a draw between both the ‘99 & ‘13 Egg Bowls, of which both were hosted at Davis Wade Stadium, as I was there in the stands for ‘99 Classic AKA The Tip, The Kick, The Pick, The Kick & then in ‘13 with an injured Dak Prescott coming off the bench for the win in OT; 4] The 2021 Forever Maroon Baseball Team bring home to StarkVegas, the FIRST EVER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY 🏆! Hail State & Go Dawgs! [More Cowbell] 🐮🔔
Being UConn Womens Basketball fan and being from Conn. Congrats Miss. I can honestly say I wasn't shocked I wasn't upset disappointed. In fact knew it was coming it had to end sooner than later. Well played Miss. well played. To UConn You have earned the respect of the world of Men and Women's basketball 111 games you have done the unheard of. And Miss you've GOT my respect and the respect of many in CT. I don't think there is any sport out there that has 111 straight wins. What a feet. And what a feet for Miss Well done women well done. And I for one like the idea of a Underdog to do what you have done. As for Prescott and Dallas SO FUCKING WHAT....
This still shows how much effect even beating UConn can have on a team. Miss St. was physically and emotionally drained by the championship game. I can't blame them they were playing for pride and respect. They also had to redeem themselves for what happened to them last year. So when they played S. Carolina they seemed gassed by the 2nd qtr. That's emotional peak they got friday night crashed. Also look at the 08 Stanford with Wiggins and the 11 and 12 Notre Dame teams with Diggins. The same happened to them in the NC game after beating UConn in the SF game
Roger Plew, you said, "I believe there is a good chance South Carolina would have beaten U Conn, if they had played, but of course, we'll never know"Two questions, What do you think would have happened if South Carolina had played UConn first then Miss St? Secondly, what if South Carolina had played Miss St first then UConn?
I remember this day like it was yesterday. Can’t believe it’s been 3 years already. Wow. And I also can’t believe the HC BENCHED Williams in that championship game smh.
I remember the result, but had no television and knew the Lady Bulldogs were in the final 4 but had no idea Connecticut had that won that many in a row until just now. Living in the upper Midwest no radio coverage either. I did know that Carolina was the team to beat that year. Missed opportunity for a nat'l chanpionship. Then just missed it another time. Then UTex took our coach away. Oh well.
This is less about this mediocre mid range jumper in the video than what happened just before: it's tied with maybe 20 seconds left and huskies have the ball in their end... easy peasy right? drain the clock and hit a 2 pointer, or in worst case scenario, miss, but continue on to another OT period...... but for some reason saniya chong decides to rush toward a mississippi player near the foul line in some weird attempt to either A) draw a weak foul or B) create a forced, weak attempt at an early basket TWO SECONDS in to the remaining 20 seconds of an OT period, effectively giving the opponent time to respond, rather than NOT give them time to respond........... can you imagine.... can, you, imagine....
Every time I see this I get teary-eyed I'm not ashamed to admit it. Easily top 3 moment as a Mississippi State fan.
exactly! Hail State!! I'm such a proud alumni!!!
I'm crying now...
Isaac, what are your top 3 moments? I can't see that winning shot enough myself!
Me too
You and Dak Prescott
I do not follow women's college basketball....but man...THAT was something else!!

I love the UCONN coaches reaction. "Ok that was amazing, you got us", was his reaction
You can only stack the deck for so long......awesome shot, awesome game.

Nah, plenty of teams were good, just shifted from another dominanting team for a couple years
@troylee4196 yeah, now we have south Carolina dominating wcbb

You could watch your own team lose over and over? 💀
@@ep1475 yea if the tables were turned I would turn the tv off and go somewhere else like when that girl from Norte dame hit that game winner?
111 games though. That is insane!!
fucking awesome, can't stop rewinding it. Down goes UCONN, down goes UCONN!
I remember being there and me and my dad screaming so loud and crying and there was uconn fans right behind us which was awkward
You just have to feel good after that!!!

😭😭😭
Seeing Dak in the audience excited is too cool.

It had to happen.
This^^^^^ Just glad it wasn't Baylor or ND that did it. MSU was a very likable team.
The Best Game Of The Year! An all SEC Final!!!
UCon is waaaaay far away from the sec
And Dak Prescott celebrating like he was the one that won it all lol
Being UConn Womens Basketball fan and being from Conn.

The 1985 Georgetown Hoyas basketball team lost to Villanova by that same score in the national title game UConn women

Damn. Imagine being that ONE team that mess up the whole deck.
She did that Jordan move to get open. Shoved the girl out of her way..lol
@ 01:56 the heartbreak in that little girls eyes is killing me.
Congrats MSU!
WOW! Shocking upset.
I remember the result, but
had no television and knew the

did anyone see the girl next to Dak crying
poor girl that was sad
This was on a March 31, and the next day if you missed it and found out, you'd think it was an April Fools joke.
Hail State!
For UConn all good things must come to an end'Good bye.
LOL More like see ya later
She pulled a Hunter Renfrow.
How about those dawgs hail state forever
Im cutting onions for my dinner. I promise
Major onions!!!
They always say about streaks. No matter how good they are, they all come to an end eventually. It's inevitable
Morgan Tuck probably like " I should of stay at Uconn "
I thought the SAME THING.
She started Snapchating 😂
Imagine the communal team shower they had after the game ✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️
Didn't UConn beat the crap out that same team earlier that year?
FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....

We aren't Mississippi, we're Mississippi State.
At least you'll always have this moment Morgan. Go Gamecocks!
Get the title right, team defense ended the streak...not one player.
nice surrender cobra.
What a snob that UConn coach is lol
Rigged all sports are😃😃😃
As much of a joke women’s basketball is, this was amazing
I never knew that Serena Williams played basketball
I guess you're one of those that think all blacks look alike.. 🙄
that was luck. UCONN all day everyday PERIOD
Except that year...and last year....and this year
ethanpeirce And this year, you said?? Will see about that in just one week.
