The edge that flairs out is called Yalman. It makes the sword tip heavy and easily slashed with just a flick from the wrist and still hit with incredible force. That's why Turks still talk about strength of one's wrist instead of one's arm. It also makes it hit like a hammer only obviously it's a thin sharp blade. Imagine someone in full speed on horseback slashing this across your body, limbs or head. It would cut clean through
Unparalleled slashing power, I don't consider the Katana to be that pinnacle, because I've actually handled an Ottoman Epire Shamshir and Kilij, both are incredible testament to bladesmithing. No effort needed, slices clean through anything.
I am Turkish, The main purpose of the Ottoman's use of this sword was not to kill the enemy, but to frighten them, because Europeans were afraid of being injured rather than dying.
@@mattamathics1108 Also I saw that you have referenced shamsir a lot, you are kind of right, because all these come from same ancestor from Seljuks (ancestors to Ottomans). Before the Seljuk conquest of Iran, Iraq and Syria the swords in those areas were mostly straight, then with Seljuks Turkic way of sword smithing came to the area. they have local differences but they are all descendants of same curved sword philosophy of central Asia where Seljuks came from, usable on horseback, one handed, easy cuts with wrist moves.
Kilic means sword in Turkish, The name of this Sword is " Kara Bela" meaning Black trouble or Black Curse ( For enemies)..Yatagan is a town in Mugla (Turkiye) where this sword is forged but there is also a small sword type called Yatagan. Kara Bela is used at Jeniceri ( Land Forces) and Süvari ( Horseman) parts of Ottoman Army and late 17th Century. Very Effective at Batlefield and On Horse
As you can see at 05:29, this Yatağan is not a town in Muğla but a town in Serinhisar District of Denizli. The name of the Yatağan Palası also come from Yatağan in Denizli, not the Muğla.
Hello from Singapore! 🇸🇬 I got this sword pre-ordered from a reseller store here today. Can’t wait to have my hands on this majestic looking sword soon 😄 Hope it will be worth my monehhhhh 👍🏼 Eyvallah! 🤚🏼
Hello my friend! Thank you for watching! I haven’t cut with it yet, but I am very excited to try it out. It is definitely an interesting sword type, with a fascinating history. I also hope it’s worth our money!
The Kilij was based on earlier Turkic scimitars, earliest examples are from the Göktürk empire. The sword shape was quickly adopted by Arabs and later also Western cavalry after they saw how efficient it was for cutting Esp on horse. The Persians strangely adopted it way later than Arabs despite being ruled by Turkic people What's strange is that later designs and copy's remove the yalman (the double edge on the tip). This is what made the sword tip heavy making it hit like a hammer and helped it cut so well. It also made it easy to wield just using slight force from the wrist. Instead of the entire arm. That's why to this day Turks talk about the strength of the wrist and not the arm
Türkler ortaasyadan horasana geldiğinde önce farslar etkilenerek kavisli kılıç kullanıyorlar, farslardanda araplar etkileniyor. Araplar ve farslar Türklerden önce düz kılıç kullanıyorlardı. İranda farsça kelime olan şemşir densede.(zaten şemşir kılıç demek.) Bir Türk kılıcıdır ve Yalman kılıcının atasıdır. Yabancılar 1000yıldan fazla iranda kurulmuş 10 Türk devletini hiçe sayıp Türk kılıçlarına pers kılıcı diyorlar.
The writing on the swords says “ in the name of god the most merciful” and in the other it says “Verily, We have given you a manifest victory" 48:1 holy quran
That tang could be welded. The close up view showed some discoloration where the blade tang met the grip tang. Hopefully not but the only way to tell for sure would be to remove the grip. The polish looks good.
Please do not let the sword fall on the floor or step on it by mistake , it has the name of god written on the blade , Even though a man must treat all swords with massive respect as a work of art and a symbol of the truth that splits lies .. All respect for you brothaa!
08:45 probably older than ottoman but basically coming from ottoman flag. ''The green circle in the middle of the sun and the tughra inside it: The dynasty is Muslim-Turkish''

Be careful. Stainless steel blades, for swords is not good. It could snap on you. By the looks you have a 3/16" thick long steel bar. Funny all these so called, sword makers, have no clue what a distal taper is.
which written on the sword's blade from Quran surah Feth" İnna Fetahna leke fethan mübiyna"..In english means is " Surely ; we give you a openly victory".... the other one Sultan Abdülhamid's tuğra( signature)
They have since updated their website. It used to say 4034 steel. Which is a stainless steel. I’m not sure, but it is probably the same steel. However I guess it’s possible they are using something else now.
How to deferentiate a kilij or an arabian damascusi from a shamshir , the crossguard’s spike that covers the blade in the middle of that kilij.. in a shamshir you find it closer to the nonsharp edge of the blade .. plus shamshirs are bit lighter
These all are the variations of swords that are used in the conquest of Persia, Iraq and Syria by Seljuks (which are the ancestors of Ottomans). Before that conquest the swords used in those areas were mostly straight. If you follow the history by examples of swords you will find their features transitive. After some time they got some local differences of course. So you need to specify the era when you are referring about these variations, otherwise you may be referring for wrong features for wrong sword without the dates.
Difference is broadness and "yalman". Yalman is that distinctive flaring tip of sword. Shape of the tip of the blade and the nature of its relatively low curvature the kilij could be used to perform the thrust, in this it had an advantage over the shamshir whose extreme curvature did not allow the thrust.
the first part I begin in the name of Allah the Beneficent, the Merciful , if it were held still I could have gotten the second part look like an Ayaat of the Quran

It's generally the distill taper is wrong if these sorts of eastern sabers are giving the impression of bulk. Like szablas they should be agile due to proper distill tapering performed by an experienced smith.

It is not a company logo. The name of the symbol is "Ottoman Tugra". "Tugra" is the signature of the sultan.

Dracula, the real one not the vampire, used a kilij as his sword of choice. Amazing slashing and chopping power, especially when used on horseback
Because he was raised by Ottomand
From my experience the turkeys shipping is really nice
The leaser engraving in Arabic from the Quran
It would be nice to see cutting bamboos with this type of sword it looks so beautiful

A good slash sword that originated from Central Asia and introduced into the Middle East by Turkish nomads around 800 AD.

They have since updated their website. It used to say 4034 steel. Which is a stainless steel. I’m not sure, but it is probably the same steel. However I guess it’s possible they are using something else now.
However they still describe it as having great corrosion resistance which probably means it s the same steel
@@mattamathics1108 well Kult of Athena has one that they say is made from 1065 Carbon, I tried to send you the link but it won’t let me on my end
@@TheMan-je5xq I checked it out, it’s made by universal swords. Looks pretty cool.
So I just did some quick research. 4034 steel is considered a carbon steel has .5% carbon. But it has 14% chromium which makes it a stainless steel
