Here are some highlights: 0:48 Palm Bay, FL 1:29 Jacksonville, FL 1:49 first gas stop, Georgia 2:48 SC / NC border, "South of the Border" 3:47 Richmond, VA 4:12 Washington D.C. 4:30 Baltimore, MD tunnel 5:09 New Jersey Turnpike 5:23 third gas stop, NJ 5:39 Verrazano Bridge, NY 5:45 Brooklyn Bridge, NY
The track is "New Day" and in case you are wondering, I've met with Chris Lawrence, in person, several times and I have express permission from both him and his label to use this track. They also have a High Definition copy of my time lapse to use for visuals. I'm only saying this because of the stupid policy to remove professional videos that contain copyrighted tracks when, instead, they could be helping to sell more tracks. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the compliment.
1. Interval = 10 seconds. 2. Camera on a tripod on passenger floor plus gaffer's tape. I'm working on a more solid mount. 3. Camera to Mac Powerbook via USB, both powered using AC adapters and a 12v inverter. Nikon software on the Mac triggered the camera. The 999 limit should be 9999 except you would fill a 4GB card before you hit 5000. 4. Custom Photoshop actions, batch command, Quicktime Pro, Audacity. This version is a mere taste of the 1920 x 1080 HD version! Hope that helps. =)
for ages i wanted to make these types of vids, even walking, cus i dont have a license. then i realize people have uploaded plenty, and now im hooked:D
I've been doing some experimental time lapse videos using my own D200 and one of them was a quick drive around our block. The shutter was set to fire once every second. The constant "Click, Click, Click..." was annoying, I can't believe you were able to put up with that for 19 hours. Very nice work.
great work . i am going to add this to my playlist a nd send out a message to my subscribers and friends about your channel. i have driven that whole stretch almost. philly to florida twice and btewn 215 and ny bmore and dc hundreds of times
Thanks, I think the compression of youtube makes it look more choppy. It looks much better in full HD on a 40" LCD television! =) Also, at the time, I didn't have the resources to shoot at a faster frame rate. These days, I have 8GB memory cards and I can shoot more frames. Check out one of my newer driving time lapse videos and I think you'll agree they are smoother, even though youtube still compresses them to 15FPS.
As stated above in the description, music is by Christopher Lawrence, track is "New Day", specially remixed for this video on DVD. Be sure to check out both of our web sites, listed at the end of the video. =)
ive done this trip 7 times in one year whe n i was helping my uncle move to Miami. Average time was 20 hours,,, one trip we did it in 16 hours,... that was sweet!!!!
I drove from Orlando Florida to 20 minutes outside of NYC, took me a little over 17 hours. That of course includes pit stops and traffic. But pretty much i drive straight from Orlando to my destination
Great stuff, it looks like you went north in Washington DC from 395 to the National Mall and than took 295 and connect to I-95 again. Oh by the way, there are no alternative to skip the toll roads from Maryland to Delaware. There is an alternative route to the NJ Parkway, but is waste of gas....
Yeah, that does, cheers. I just started playing with my intervalometer with a few different things, but haven't had much luck with software to compile. I've heard Final Cut Pro is pretty good for it, but I've only got iMovie HD at the moment.. I'll check out the photoshop batch stuff, ta.
@BarnSt0rmer yeah I know what you mean. When I did this one, I was dealing with a short supply of small memory cards so my interval was much slower. Now that you can buy 32GB memory cards, I've found a good interval for night driving is 2 seconds. Thanks for the compliments!
@BeyondOpenSource I can see your point but I selected the frame rate to go with the music and also to provide just enough time to see each frame. I agree a faster frame rate makes a smoother video and you can see that in some of my other driving time lapses. This one was done for a specific effect. Sit in a dark room and stare at the screen. =)
@rob: i'd suppose you to add the information about title and permission to the video description ;) maybe further viewers would like to know? your choice concerning the audio track is great, it fits perfectly on the images. especially (i have no clue wether this happened randomly or not) the track's downpass (between 2:13 and 2:42) has just the right position within the video, enframing sunrise and single sun shots... btw, do you have any clue where i could digitally buy this track?
@rob215x this is why you should vimeo for video art purposes. concerning the video: it's f*cking godlike. music and pictures fit together like a vp* into a vag* (sorry for that, but that's the best comparison i could find!) - definately one of the best time lapse videos i've seen so far. thumbs up a hundred times!
I'm driving from Philly to Tampa on Friday as part of a family vacation. I've made the drive like 10 times but I still can't seem to find anything to pass the time.
amazing.. I was planning doing this in three months holiday getting afraid of too short time can't imagine the size of the US cuz I'm from the kingdom of pelekum
Thanks, I agree. Only this version looks horrible compared to the original High Def version. I wish RUclips had an option to upload my video again and keep all of the existing comments, etc. I guess they don't do that because people would cheat and upload something different?
This is an awesome video, but I think it should have been slowed way down. It is impossible to comprehend the surroundings and connect the frames. It looks like a load of random highway pictures being played back at 15FPS.
Was it really only 18hrs? What time did you leave Ft. Lauderdale? I'm told it's a 24-26hr drive and I'm also leaving from Ft.Lauderdale going to Brooklyn. This was helpful! I'll be taking this drive in a few months... I'm so excited!
Hey, nice work. What interval did you use for this? And, how did you mount the camera? Did you just keep restarting after the 999 max photos? And change batteries after they went flat? And, what software did you use to compile it? Cheers.
@Romeo11241 It depends on where you are going in NY. In Delaware and Maryland it seemed like I was being hit up for a toll every mile or so lol. If you are not heading over the bridges or thru the Lincoln tunnel than I would budget $15-17. If you take the gw bridge or the throgs neck then double that figure. Really sick video!!!
i like that vid, buddy! great job! =) the song is by christopher lawrence, i know that, but i have no clue what the title is... could anyone help me (by pm)? thanks!
@pamelac123 That comment was made so long ago. I still agree with it, so it is still relevant. I've never been down the Eastern Seaboard, or anywhere. I was in DC once, but that's it.
Cool I understand. Thats still good gas mileage there. When I went on a road trip to Virginia, we made at least 6 stops or more. But you went all the way to the NY with less stops than me LOL
Cool vid! I drove from Orlndo to LongIsland with a friend in Aug'08. As soon as we hit the hwy it poured like a son ofa bitch up until Daytona. There were cars on the side of the road and shit. I applied rain-x to my windshield the day b4 and it worked wonders. We hit traffic Richmond. Then we hit mega amounts of traffic in DC. That was 3hours of shit. Also this one car rode with us from like GA to the Jersey Tpke. It was funny. We stopped at the same rest areas and lolled about it in Baltimore
I drove from EWR NJ to West Palm Beach FL Non stop except for GAS. and its fun.... lots of concentration involve. Left EWR Airport wife pick me up 12 Noon depart drove non stop arrive West Palm Beach FL, Next day 7 AM stopped in mcdonalds for breakfast and my wife is like.... Dammn how the f'4Ck??? Hehe, Just think about Lemans Race long time ago.
Well, I-95 is the highway I took most of the way and yes, its pretty boring. I'm guessing you live somewhere else in the world? There are many highways in America that are more scenic. I was simply taking the fastest route to get from Florida to New York City.
I'm not even sure. I did this trip in 2007. I'm about 130 miles south of Melbourne. My friend's house in Riverhead was about 1300 miles from here. I guess you could calculate it based on current gas prices and the MPG of the car. My Scion can go 300 miles for about $24, so it would cost me about $104 in gas.
Excellent job. I love these compressed views. Very cool.
Here are some highlights:
0:48 Palm Bay, FL
1:29 Jacksonville, FL
1:49 first gas stop, Georgia
2:48 SC / NC border, "South of the Border"
3:47 Richmond, VA
4:12 Washington D.C.
4:30 Baltimore, MD tunnel
5:09 New Jersey Turnpike
5:23 third gas stop, NJ
5:39 Verrazano Bridge, NY
5:45 Brooklyn Bridge, NY
Nice, it's an oldie, but still great!!!
Thanks! It was definitely much more difficult back then, given the available tech and the price of CF memory cards at the time. =)
I love when you're driving to New York and you can see the buildings in the distance. It's a sign of relief for me after a long drive.
I love videos like this. They make me want to get up and GO! The town I live in...no way I'm staying here any longer than I have to.
Very nice. I've traveled from Florida to New York more than once, and it always took me way longer than 6 minutes.
Nothing short of awesome
Thanks, I just watched a couple of your interviews. Very Cool!
Thanks for upload. Really ♥️ur videos.

Great Job... i've driven all of this at some point, and know I-95 in VA too well.. great to see it flash by. 5 stars!
I've been doing some experimental time lapse videos using my own D200 and one of them was a quick drive around our block. The shutter was set to fire once every second. I think you went through a truck around 1:19...
Very cool video! It's added to my favorites!
nice work, i have subscribed, look forward to seeing more time lapse in the future!
this is amazing man
As stated above in the description, music is by Christopher Lawrence, track is "New Day", specially remixed for this video on DVD. Be sure to check out both of our web sites, listed at the end of the video. =)
Crazy video! Like it!
@ 2:48.... South of the Border (North Carolina/ South Carolina). I recently made a trip from NYC to Miami. Great trip, Great time, Great video.
Correction, you went on to New York Ave that does connect to 295
yeah me too but i still respect this guys work
Nice work!
ive done this trip 7 times in one year whe n i was helping my uncle move to Miami.
Average time was 20 hours,,, one trip we did it in 16 hours,... that was sweet!!!!
That was epic. At 5:47 I couldn't help but think of Project gotham racing.
@34enes thanks for the compliments! and yes, I agree.

Thanks! Yes, Rain-X is awesome! If you notice, I cut through the center of DC to avoid the crap. =)
Yeah, that does, cheers.
I just started playing with my intervalometer with a few different things, but haven't had much luck with software to compile. I've heard Final Cut Pro is pretty good for it, but I've only got iMovie HD at the moment..

freakin awesome.
very nice

wow, that was really cool! (:
The music reminds me of Sprockets from Saturday Night live.

At 4:48 in the video, I'm entering New Jersey. =)
I'm driving from Philly to Tampa on Friday as part of a family vacation. I've made the drive like 10 times but I still can't seem to find anything to pass the time.
Great.
oh and by the way, this is NOT me in the video, im just talking from personal experience, so i dont know the exact route this guy took to new york.
I started out at a gas station. There are two gas stops in the video, one at 1:49 and another at 5:23. There was a gas stop at 4:15 that I edited out.
amazing.. I was planning doing this in three months holiday
getting afraid of too short time
can't imagine the size of the US cuz I'm from the kingdom of pelekum
good job
WOW!!!
Yes the camera was connected to a laptop and took a picture every 12 seconds
The HD version is too big to put on the web but you can see a *MUCH* higher quality version on my web site (listed in the info above).
awesome bro!!!! how many days of driving did u travel??? only reason im driving to nyc july 4th weekend. was just curious.
Cool Vid!
woooooooooooa. New york has a LOT of ppl there but florida is realy pretty
Thanks, I agree. Only this version looks horrible compared to the original High Def version. I wish RUclips had an option to upload my video again and keep all of the existing comments, etc. I guess they don't do that because people would cheat and upload something different?

thts a really cool kick ass video!! Correct me if im wrong, but were u in nj by the 5th minute?
Hey, nice work.

Did you just keep restarting after the 999 max photos? And change batteries after they went flat?

i do this drive 2 times a year, wish it was that quick, great idea, the good ole jersey tpike was still too long, haha
@Romeo11241

if you don't mind how fast were you going? is it true some parts of the thruway are more than 65 mph?
I'm leaving on Wednesday to ny from fl also, how much did you spend on tolls?
i like that vid, buddy! great job! =)
the song is by christopher lawrence, i know that, but i have no clue what the title is... could anyone help me (by pm)? thanks!

What was the interval time between the shots?
How come you went over the Walt Whitman Bridge instead of the Delaware Memorial Bridge? Did you want to see Philly?
Its been a while but if I remember correctly, I was avoiding a traffic jam.
i havent seen this great video since 2008 it was awesome for me at the time to see it , good work ! verazzano narrows looks impressive at the end
I'm driving up thier this month how much money do you have to spend on gas. I got a Toyota corolla
I have the D200. How did you do this?
Yes, flickr com/photos/rob215 - I haven't updated it a while though
Did you see any accidents on the way ?
I do these kind of movies with a Canon SD750 Powershot.
What cty is that at 3:47?
It was roughly 1,050 Miles
@rob215x Well I won't argue, it looks awesome.
Somewhere buried in here is a comment I made many years ago.
what car is that
Yeah I heard about a big pile up on I-95 and I wanted to avoid it.
Cool vid! I drove from Orlndo to LongIsland with a friend in Aug'08. As soon as we hit the hwy it poured like a son ofa bitch up until Daytona. There were cars on the side of the road and shit. wow that vehicle has to be really fuel efficient because you didnt make many stops
really nice vid. you might wanna check out my time lapse. its around the race thrack in germany called nürburgring.
lol, thistotally remindsmeofmy long drivestosan diego fromvegas
Driving? 19 hours.
just coffee and frappucinos
@Xboxlivemgear wow thats fuckin interesting!!!! in that big usa you find ur old car :)
It looks a little awkward...looks like a slide show rather than a time lapse.
ke weba xD
so ya a middle lane driver? lol
