Honestly, Reserve Army and Tank Hunter's biggest strengths are the fact they make for great T1 commanders Reserve Army has MG and ZiS without building the tech structure, meaning you can make Penals even more potent with the Commissar whilst Shockscripts can get up close and personal as well as cap MG-held points with Hit the Dirt Tank Hunter has the early PTRS rifles (CP1) Meaning a combination of cons and penals gives you strong potential for anti-tank with the AT nade assault from camo, as well as cloaked SU-85s, and means penals don't gimp their AI performance with PTRS rifles
Exactly. I was totally buffled when i saw Reserve reaching D because Comissars, Penals AND support weapons make the most well-rounded Soviet force you can wish for. And don't forget that Comissar is pretty much the only way Soviets can heal their howitzer crews (it's not that much, but it's some more synergy). It offers nothing wacky, but rather boring solid options.
i think the problem with shock motor heavy is that the need for shocks contradicts the use case of the ISU. Shocks excel in urban maps with short ranges, and the ISU is useless in such maps because it can't maneuver or respond to a flank. ISU excels in open maps and so do the guards, that's what makes that synergy superior, not just Guards vs Shocks on a one-to-one basis. I think the same issue applies to armored doctrine, where you have no elite infantry and really have to rely on your allies pushing for fuel to support the strong late game units. The infantry disadvantage though makes it that by the time you build T4, you've probably been at a fuel disadvantage and will need to keep putting your 34-85s to support the front line and the IS-2 will never get built because you won't have the luxury to float that much fuel. To me these commanders are less than the sum of their parts.
10:25 - rapid conscription was changed. It is 90 munitions now. Provides single conscript squad. But increases unit production and replenishment by 50%.
Guard mortar is still one of the strongest commander out there, it donesn’t give you anything outright OP but quickly amounts to an overwhelming force if combined.
Assault guards also can get ppsh upgrades. Armoured assault is pretty good in 1v 1 with how lethal and fast the is2 arrives on the field if your tanks go down
I love using Partisan and watching them get pinned in 0.002 seconds from a random MG the enemy forgot even existed. All jokes aside I understand the theme of the commander, but I would rather them switch the AT ambush into something or some unit that actually has a fight chance when fighting head-on. Because you'll be going for 2-3 Partisan squads behind the lines, so your actual infantry force at the frontline will be likely 1-2 squads and easily overwhelmed. In short, it needs a contingency plan, an "Aw shit" button, if you will. This is the guy who picks sniper, never hits any shots and his team has to carry.
T 34 85 is horrible against anything but p4 T 34 normal is just straight up better due to cost Airborne guards are horrible due to the fact they have no evasion
Guard Motor is S tier in small 1v1 and 2v2 but indeed B tier in large game. It's strong early-mid game but lacks late game options like heavy call-in/airstrikes and team benefits like radio/recon. Still don't understand why Lend Lease is in A though. Also Soviet mustache bias lol
It the most well-rounded Soviet doctrine, period. The only thing it lacks is call-in. Mark Target is fantastic, Guards are fantastic, T-34/85 is very solid, self-repair is fine, if nothing else.
Lend lease is A because the its only weakness is the lack of call-in stuffs so no arty, no air strikes. Other than that, lend lease is great especially with the Special Rifle T2 because u get the MG that u probably would not get because only 1 T2 building is needed. U also get strong elite troops aka Assault Guard. M4C is a great tank to use if you have good anti infantry capability already which makes the T34 a less valuable choice compared to the M4C. Also I find the Zooks Guard plus M4C combo very effective compared to T34 and Su 85 combo The Zis truck is great, nothing more
@@scorpiontdalpha9799 No "probably not get", but "always get". The Dushka covered MG so what about AT gun and mortar? Those are so important in large game that I never skip Support Weapon even if I build Special Rifle first. Assault Guard aren't strong either. They tried to be Shocktroops but forgot they're still guards a.k.a. too squishy for close combat. But they also doesn't have enough long range dps to stay at range. In the end they only start working with double zooks for AT. Would rather put the Guards back to their intended role (long range dps) and use ZiS guns for AT. I also found the T34 + ZiS+ normal Guards combo more effective than Zook Guard + M4C. The latter doesn't have enough anti-infantry firepower to win mid game engagements for territory. To seal the deal, Guard Motor has access to the ubiquitous T-34/85 with excellent firepower against both infantry and tanks. Not to say it's S tier or anything but I don't see Lend Lease ranking higher either.

Please take these rankings with a grain of salt. These guys are not great Coh2 players... - KV2 is frankly terrible tank in team games and kv-8 is also quite lackluster in other maps than straight city maps. - Guard motor is VERY strong in 1v1 and 2v2, but is easily A/S tier in 3v3 and even 4v4 as your early/mid is so strong and most of the team games end before late game. (It's not a fun commander but it's very strong) - T34-85 contradictory to other comments is the best medium tank in the game (if you don't count panther as medium), the extra health really helps with keeping it alive. - 120mm mortar is one of the strongest early units in the whole game as it has big wiping potential and it's difficult to kill (great against okw trucks as well). - ISU-152 is the best heavy in the game. - IS-2 is quite weak these days, but is OK in city maps. And gets quite a bit stronger after vet 2 - Anti tank overwatch is very strong if you play with a team as you can coordinate it better - BTW best commander ability in the game for 4v4 is 'hold the line' from the brits. - B4 is weak after it got nerfed so it's better to use ml-20, although lef is much stronger :/.
But the panther is a medium tank, they did say the commander with KV-2 was a "guilty pleasure", they did say the IS-2 is considered the weakest heavy tank. I don't see much difference in what you said. It just sounds a bit nitpicky. And one of them made it clear they had bias towards the m4c sherman, which combined with the fact that the panther is a medium tank, ends up making sense why they'd value the t-34/85 less. I believe they were pretty honest whenever they had bias towards something and/or liked it more because of the fun factor. I did jump a lot through the video, though, so maybe I missed something.
Firstly great content as ever. Would someone please be kind enough to write down the commanders names for each tier. I'm currently having difficultly working out which hairy grizzled command is which.
Because this is a 3v3 or 4v4 situation, I believe airborne rally point -eventho still great- isn't as great so maybe it can be the lowest "S" by a very small margin? I dunno lol. Also, you are thinking about a player that has all of these commanders opened but Guard Motor is a free commander and also has literally everything you need. It covers every point (other than a call-in) but you still have the mark vehicle for your muni. spendings. Cuz of all that, I believe it's at least "A" tier. You literally have everything you need with that commander and can use it in every 3v3 or 4v4 game, it just works. Especially when you give defensive an "A" tier rank. Don't get me wrong, in 2v2 or 1v1 that commander is a solid "A" where you can just go penals and clown car or sniper and then just use the call-in teamweapons to complement. However, you DO have team weapons and emplacements options in teamgames already. The at is just trash is 3v3 or 4v4, cuz the game will go to late and it won't do anything, and your teammates have better ats, they will have again mortars and mgs. You doN't get any good tanks with it either. Hence, all in all, guard motor is ALWAYS better than defensive in big games. At the very least, if you are saying defensive is "A", you have to put guard motor on "A" too.
