Canning is what has been a part of people's homes way back. It's something I still love to do but haven't done it forever. I miss it. Now that I'm almost 70 yrs young I enjoy watching y'all can. Awesome that God gives us the products and spices and veggies etc to still carry on the tradition.God never fails us. We are so blessed. I'm thankful and blessed to still see y'all carry on that tradition .

We just recently purchased a Presto pressure canner 23 qts. So far we have pressure canned potatoes, green beans and pork. I would watch Rose Red Homestead she is very knowledgeable and have been doing it for 50 years. My husband and I have learned so much from her. We also bought a dehydrator and have done so many things in it.😊❤️

Looks like fun! My dad entered his canned pickles in his county fair. He wasn’t going to but his friend encouraged him. He kept saying they weren’t his best batch, etc. And he won first place! He’s so proud of himself & we are proud of him too! Canning is a lot of work & his hard work paid off!

If you have a Kitchen Aid mixer, you must try their attachment. No need remove skins or seeds. Their attachment separates the seeds and skin, spews them out and puts applesauce stained and ready to freeze, can or eat. It was life changing. I highly recommend it!

My husband’s Dad used to plant 🪴 tomatoes. About 100? Plants along with cubes, kohlrabi, zucchini. Bush beans. Good spaghetti sauce all winter. My MIL used to grate zucchini and put in her chocolate cake batter. Made it moist with pretty 🤩 flecks of green

My wise 70 something year old neighbor reminded me that hot pack makes the green beans "shrink"; can pack the jar fuller via hot pack versus cold. Hot pack simply means blanching the beans in boiling water for a minute or so before filling the jar.

I grew up watching and helping my mom make strawberry jam, apple pie and cherry pie filling, pickles, relish and canned peaches and tomatoes. She's cut back on the amount she cans, but she still does some every year. I try to help her whenever I have time - although we each have our own way of doing things in the kitchen! We won't eat any other jam but hers, and it's so nice to be able to get a can of pie filling out and make a quick pie, or use it to make apple crisp or cherry crisp for dessert.

My late Grandma had an apple tree at her house in Conn. the apples ripened at the end of summer. When she made her delicious apple sauce, it got eaten while still warm. We kids loved it.
I made apple sauce in high school home economics class 45 years ago. Yummy!
20 years ago I pressure canned trout I caught and smoked first. I am retired now but take care of Mom (90). May grow tomatoes next summer & pressure can some to use in winter cooking, depending on how busy Mom keeps me.
You brought back happy memories with your videos.

Hi Lynnette... So good to see you. Your baby girl is just so precious. I enjoyed watching the canning video. I wish I had room to store canned foods cause I'd be canning lots of green beans don't like the taste of frozen. Never thought about freezing applesauce but a good idea. I used to freeze my own spaghetti sauce when I had our home . We had a finished basement and I had a small freezer but we downsized greatly to a Senior Mobile Home Park when my husband became very ill and had to leave his job as a deputy Sheriff. He passed away so at least I'm living in something more manageable for a woman 77 with a disability but not a lot of cupboard space to store anything. I'd give anything for a pantry. Take care I know you'll be moving soon. God Bless you and your family. LuvYa! Bye from NE Ohio

Canning is so satisfying! Especially when those lids pop & you stand back & admire your work! I used to can lots & lots in the early 80’s. We were told at that time that green beans, tomatoes & tomato sauces should be canned in pressure cookers. I usually traded someone some of mine cause all I had was water bath. My neighbor was an avid fisherman. He’d cut salmon steaks in about 2 to maybe 3 inches, role them up & pressure can them in those squatty half pint wide mouth jars! Man, that stuff was good!

Don't know if anyone else commented on a VERY EASY way to can green beans.
Fill quart jar with green beans, 1 tsp salt and one zinc pill ( keeps them green) fill with water to neck. Put lids on. Put in oven turn oven on 250 and set the timer for 3 hours. After 3 hours turn off oven and let set in oven for 10 hours or cooled.
I also have a recipe for canned chicken and canned (dry) beans that I put in the oven. It has made my life SO EASY!!!

Hi Lynette, it is so nostalgic for me to watch you with your mom in the kitchen canning. I remember many long, but wonderful days spent in my moms kitchen canning and freezing the huge bounty from my dads garden. We would prepare the vegetables during the morning and start the canning and freezing after a vegetable lunch that mom seemed to effortlessly cook during the morning. I hope you enjoyed your day with your mom.

I appreciate your encouragement in making small batches. To be honest, I hadn't really thought of canning since we no longer own our land and my husband is no longer able to do a big garden. I sorta thought that was all behind us, but you helped me to see that we can do this on a much smaller scale with things we buy at our local vegetable stand. I miss that part of our lives, so thank you for pointing this out, Lynette. Your baby just gets cuter by the day!

Great job with all the canning! I also love canning, but also not an expert. Be careful with the pressure cooker on the glass top stove....I was canning corn which takes 11 pounds at 85 minutes. Because of the weight and long high heat, my glass top shattered! 😲 so I bought a camp chef propane burner and do all my pressure & hot water canning outside now. My favorites to can are peaches & peach pie filling! 😋 Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Forty years ago I lived in Vermont and made incredible jelly from wild grapes. I'm thinking they would have worked well to juice for the filling. Tiny grapes, large seeds, incredible strong concord grape flavor. Good job with the canning. Proud of you.

The only thing I ever canned was beets. A neighbor of mine taught me. They were the best beets I ever ate. Now it would be a waste as I'm a widow. You truly do a lot more than I did when it comes to doing things from scratch.

Love all your good ideas. Excited to try some new ideas. And it’s interesting to see how similar the Amish and the Mennonite culture are alike in many ways

All the food looks wonderful. Always glad to hear the lids pop. I have been canning a long time and I do watch Rachel's channel. I have quite a collection of canning cookbooks. The "Ball Complete Guide To Home Preserving" and the "USDA Guide To Home Canning" are great guides for safely canning foods. Adorable girls! TFS 👍

I grow up pressure cook. The food is so good. I have never seen apple sauce made. So that was interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know much about canning either, however I started last December making and canning apple butter. This year I made and canned strawberry jam, canned white peaches, and peach jam. I use water bath method too, I have also used my insta pot with canner button, works great.

I make apple sauce like your grandma. I use an immersion blender straight into the pot. :) Core the apples, boil them until mushy, add a little lemon juice, use an immersion blender until right consistency, and then process can it. If you want to make apple butter....keep cooking it until it is thickened and add cinnamon and nutmeg. :)

The best source for canning is the Ball Blue Book, in my opinion. it tells you what's safe to water bath and what needs to be pressure cooked. It has to do with how acidic your food is. My favorite thing to can is pizza sauce. The recipe I use is so good I could eat it straight out of the jar. 😄 I plan to make some in the next couple weeks.

Would you share your recipe? We can't get pressure canners in Ireland and the jars are ridiculous prices here - over $5 a jar!
