I walked through Lviv Ukraine, summer of 2022 when the Russian invasion was in full swing. I walked to a small Italian style restaurant. We sat out the back because there were sandbags there in case of any bombing. I looked up as I sat down. Who was in front of me? Maradona. A beautiful mural, seemed freshly painted. An iconic moment of his career hidden away from the general public. Just like most of his personality was. I smiled. For a Liverpool FC fan of decades, Maradona was a hero of mine. Flawed, yes. Genius, absolutely. Human, of course. Thats why he was loved. He was everyone of us. Even in a small way.

Could not disagree more. If you really watched Maradona closely , you would notice that he severely lacked leadership skills and everything that comes with being a leader of a team. His short tempered outbursts and arrogance made him ill suited for the job. His charisma with a ball was insane but his charisma with mic was nothing to be praised for. He was direct and to the point . Many times he attacked journalists for their "loaded" questions. Which often became more and more direct and insulting between Maradona and them. More so in the 90s when it was a favourite for journalists to ask him about his opinions on drugs. Which enraged him every single time. His will can be debated I guess. What he did in 86 was amazing considering without him it was really only an average team snd at Napoli who had won nothing in their history until he arrived and in an era where they were competing against AC Milan which was the best team on the planet and the Italian league was the toughest and best in Europe.
@@1972dsrai he did hit his peak but without the drugs and partying his peak could have lasted A LOT longer he possibly could have won Napoli another Scuedetto and Argentina another World Cup
I rarely leave comments in this era of RUclips, as most videos have the retention based editing style, and their value is questionable at best - but I feel the obligation to leave one here. As a football fan that was born after Maradona finished his career - the storytelling is beyond great, starting from his early childhood, giving information about his surroundings, the conditions he lived in to smoothly transitioning into his career along with all the drama it had in it. The multiple point of views on him, covering all aspects must've been a long process, but in the end you've delivered it so perfectly it makes you feel like you've lived along with him. From an inspiring video editor's point of view I cannot imagine all the time and effort that went into this - from finding the materials (pictures, videos, overlays, textures to relay a setting, color correction, etc.) to actually putting it all in one piece. Hope one day a media outlet recognizes this talent, and gives you the opportunity/resources to bring this to an ever wider audience - greatness beyond words 👏
This is superb & really professional documentary. You managed to capture what make football connect with people & how Maradona connected the national team of Argentina plus most of the clubs he played for with there fans, despite his addictions & flawed character. As a Leeds fan to see Bielsa there at his retirement speech reminds of how Bielsa reconnected Leeds’s fans back with the club, in an increasingly corporate world & sport. To see sports stars as humans with all of our complexities willing to show emotion & connect so deeply over a shared love of a football the club & nation teams we support is increasingly rare yet needed more than ever. Gracias Diego & the maker of this documentary for capturing & expressing this emotional side of football so well.
The best football docs ever are on this channel, seriously! I have only seen 2 or 3 that had the quality of yours from various other sources, but the thing that sets yours apart is the extensive and even really obscure or very little known details that you provide. I have even seen those docs of yours from teams or players that I could not care less. With Maradona's life, you could have easily done a 2 hour doc but this is still really great! Being a big Maradona fan myself, I have learned from it!
Neymar never really achieved anything and didn't even play in the best most important league the English one during his time. Maradonna went to Italy which was best at the time though now we no it was all corruot
@@dondamon4669 neymar was playing professionally by 17 in Brazil, had the weight of a whole nation on his shoulders by age 18 when he made his Brazil debut, won the copa libertadores for Santos by age 19, moved to Barcelona at 21 won the treble as a part of one of if not the best front 3’s of all time scoring in every knockout stage, finished third in ballon d’or standings at 23, became the most expensive transfer in football history and became the top scorer of the Brazil national team all before the age of 30. He might not be maradona, but his peak makes him an all time great in football history. At the very least, his meteoric rise and fall makes for an excellent story
I agree he should do Neymar. He was my favourite player growing up he had potential to be the greatest of all time even though he didn’t reach those heights his still one of the greatest to ever play the game.
He could have achieved a lot more success, but a world cup and what he did at Napoli isn’t bad going considering they’d won nothing before he arrived. They were nearly relegated the season before he arrived and left with two league titles, a European trophy and super cup, all in an era when they were competing against AC Milan which was the best team on the planet then and the Italian league the strongest in Europe.
Yes with all due respect to maradona and how great of a footballer he was , he is nowhere the numbers the likes of messi or even ronaldo but , his all time napoli goals are 1.5 years of prime messi goals , and how healthy and long careers the likes of messi have maradona’s prime was only 5-6 years .
@@krishchaudhry2222 He was never a goalscorer.Being the greatest isnt about stats. His "numbers" arent as good as Harry Kane or Miloslav Klose of Filippo Inzaghi. Are you saying they are better than Maradona also?
@@moz7777 but when we consider all the players in the greatest of all time deabte from r9 , cristiano , pele , messi all of their numbers were phenomenal
you are amazing and i genuinely wait for your documentaries. This is BBC / CNN studio quality if not better. Love the message at the start too. Peace and love brother
GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) Maradona. Played in an era where defenders went out to injure you and you got little protection from refs. Defenders hacked and stamped on his feet to slow him down. He played in a decent, but not, best club teams. He was instrumental in winning the world Cup with Agentina. If he played today, he would be killing it.
I played football as a kid and youth level, all the way until my 20's . In the 80's many times after the weekend's game you will end up with bleeding knees, and bruises from kicks during the games. 😂 On Maradona, I saw him dominate in an era where you had such great players, Michel Platini, Lothar Matthews, Ruud Gullit,Van Basten, Zico. Anyway you can check on the list of 80's superstars it is outstanding, Diego Armando Maradona was on another level. RIP Diego 🙏 EL DIEGO DE ORO.
i dont know why you are so underrated channel in youtube , u make better documentaries than netflix and prime i have been following you for a long time. the long wait for your video is always worth it ! keep on posting amazing content ...
In 1984, Maradona seemed to have hit rock bottom in the eyes of many. However, he went on to achieve a godlike status in Napoli, completely altering the course of Italian football history for a brief period by becoming a formidable barrier to the success of northern teams. In Mexico, he participated in a memorable tournament where he demonstrated his ability to be both the leading star and a team player simultaneously. Many opponents openly admitted that their tactic was to try and stop him using any means necessary, legal or otherwise. He holds the record for being fouled the most times in World Cup history, with his time in Italy especially marked by aggressive challenges. Despite often choosing the hard path (largely due to his own actions), people adored him, because off the field he was an ordinary man with vices and imperfections and was easy to identify with him, while on the field he was untouchable, but remained a joyous, smiling boy who simply loved the game. There will simply never be a player and a person like him. D10S
Maradona was an unbelievable footballer, who didn't have a happy ending in his last days when he passed away at the age of 60. Besides, Maradona is to football like Marlon Brando is to acting and even though they compare Messi with Diego, there was just one Maradona, which made Argentinians happy.
A man whose life was full of mistakes, yet he rose above everything....he was the greatest footballer ever. But he is immortal because he dreamt the impossible and achieved it and inspired others to do the same. On the field he was a legend. Off the field, he was the most humane human who stood up against every injustice. Players care for careers and endorsements, but he was the only one cared for love and justice for others. That is Maradona ❤
Neymar has done nothing apart from chase the money since he left Barca. He was a great player, but not in the same league as Maradona. He’s always needed great players around him and doesn’t have the drive or character to lift those around him.
The only reason he didn’t win a Ballon d’Or is because non European players were excluded from it when he was playing. He was jointly awarded the FIFA player of the 20th century along with Pele in 2000 and an honorary Ballon d’Or in 1995.
Despite his problems and shortcomings, you have to admire the man's dedication to his career. In some ways, you can see how the situations he was in played against him, and yet, he pushed through them. There's never been any doubt in my mind that he was a football genius. But this certifies that he's one of football's goats.
The first message "stop the genocide" was great. Football and politics will always live together. I watched all games of Palestine during the Asian Cup and it was clearly everybody's second favorite team. Even a guy from Scotland made the trip and I wish I was rich enough to attend the games. But watching them felt already good and we must keep spreading the message. Your video about Maradona showed it as he has been a tool for the Argentinian dictatorship and the Camorra. Also, his game against England while the memories of the Malvinas war still fresh among everyone in the stadium. These two examples show that we cannot ask players to just "shut up and play". They're the reason we go to games.
"One guy said he was Napoleon and they didn't believe him. I said I was Maradona and they didn't believe me, either." He fell, rose and lay. D10S ETERNO ❤⚽
At last, the legendary channel strikes back with this story of football GOAT. Now the only thing that's left is the King himself, Pele. The legacy of Maradona still remained eternity. His death in 2020 really "blessed" both Argentina and Napoli, as both finally achieved success once more after a long time of the hiatus, with Argentina winning the Copa America and World Cup under Lionel Messi and Napoli enjoying the 3rd Scudetto the last year with charismatic striker Victor Osimhen. RIP Diego.
I’ve watched all of these documentaries on this channel at least 3 times each, can’t wait for the next one ! Outstanding work ! Really Hope they’ll be one made about Liverpool FC
Bro lived a colourful life 10 times more intensely than others. He chose it. He knew the price and he paid it. I respect that. I never heard of him hurting anyone - or if he did, he tried to make it right. He earned everything through his own hard work from his childhood in a backyard in the slums. He was a good man. It is not for me to judge him in whatsoever way. Greetings from Poland.
For me the best football player ever ,for country and club ,those days he won games on his one, when I was 12 he looked like a god on tv ,,first PlayStation football, without, training schedule, ore special food,Messi and Ronaldo are kings,he the king of kings,,rip Maradona
A huge fan of your documentaries from pakistan. Here are few topics you should consider for future videos: 1. Career of Zidane. 2. Manchester City history upto recent champions league victory. 3. Decline of serie a. 4. Lazio victory in late 90s. 5. Porto triumph of champions league.
And this why there’s no comparison between who’s the best. The biggest tragedy is , he didn’t show us his absolute full abilities. He had other levels to go up to. The most gifted technical players that’s was, is and will ever be. And you stick all the stats and goals scored from other players where the sun doesn’t shine.
The era Maradona played in and the things he had to deal with on the pitch is unmatched by any player. The fact that he managed to overcome all these things makes him the greatest to ever do it in my eyes. He is greater than Messi, greater than Cristiano, greater than Zidane, and, yes, greater than Pele, in my opinion. None of the others had to deal with the kind of butchery he faced in Spain with Barcelona. None of them had to deal with the toughest league with the highest quality in world football in Serie A with Napoli. None of them had a performance in a single tournament like he had at the World Cup in 1986, either. Maradona is the GOAT. He is the best.
messi and ronaldo are both greater, should be consensus. Maradona can be in the conversation though along with other greats but those two are different
To love football as much as you obviously do to research and produce such informative and needed content to preserve these people, clubs & matches is a genuine gift to football fans. Your greatest eras of teams series was superb.
A Very good doc and I have seen several on DIOS. There is a nice rhythm and flow to the story. It keeps you engaged on this facinating life that was just as interesting off the pitch as it was on it. I think there will be more to come on his life off the field in the years to come. You showed the two sides of the man, Diego and Maradona.

The best technique of all time. Diego forever!
not to me
I rarely leave comments in this era of RUclips, as most videos have the retention based editing style, and their value is questionable at best - but I feel the obligation to leave one here.
😮
The goat has finally posted 🙏🙏
Always appreciative of how much work you put in these documentaries.
The day has come , another Masterclass !!!!!
Incredible job on Maradona !!!!
Have been waiting on the edge of my seat the past week for this
This man is more recognition He has a painfully a low amount of subscribers Keep up the good work
It's his aggressive accent that puts people off
@@dondamon4669cuz it’s not his first language he has another channel with way more views mate
If it's true then it's trash
At the end of this video I had clap for both Maradona and Fahad! What an absolute masterpiece ❤
Which other 2/3?
Neymar’s career so far is crying out for a story teller like you. Only you could do it justice! Amazing video as always
These documentaries are always worth the wait !!
I dont think theres another sportsman in history who achieved so much, yet leaves the question what if??... truly the goat in my eyes.
On Maradona, I saw him dominate in an era where you had such great players, Michel Platini, Lothar Matthews, Ruud Gullit,Van Basten, Zico. Anyway you can check on the list of 80's superstars it is outstanding, Diego Armando Maradona was on another level. RIP Diego 🙏
EL DIEGO DE ORO.
The wait is over..balon's night has come❤
I hope all is well, Excited for your return on the next video.
This and the Diego Maradona documentary are easily the two best long form videos about the career of Maradona.
Thank you for your analysis. You make football come alive
i dont know why you are so underrated channel in youtube , u make better documentaries than netflix and prime i have been following you for a long time. the long wait for your video is always worth it ! keep on posting amazing content ...
It is always a good day when Balon drops a new video.
Yes Diego was alot like Brando in the sense they were two naturally talented geniuses who were tormented by demon Diego more so than Brando
That is Undiagnosed ADHD
Comeback bro
Balon with a banger(haven't watched yet) this guy deserves an oscar for these documentaries
I’m honestly so shocked you don’t have way more subs these documentaries are professional type level amazing
Neymar has done nothing apart from chase the money since he left Barca. He was a great player, but not in the same league as Maradona. He’s always needed great players around him and doesn’t have the drive or character to lift those around him.
Your vids are like watching a movie. This one took me on a roller coaster. Another classic
Come on!!! Man you're lord of documentaries 😮many many thanks for content like this 😀
The only reason he didn’t win a Ballon d’Or is because non European players were excluded from it when he was playing. He was jointly awarded the FIFA player of the 20th century along with Pele in 2000 and an honorary Ballon d’Or in 1995.
THE KING HAS RETURNED
So much character, so Iconic, charming, rogue, insane story, the list can go on to describe him.
They're the reason we go to games.
how about stop the fighting or ceasefire for peace? both sides are being inflicted pain and suffering
Been waiting for this,i will watch later, thank you 🐐
"One guy said he was Napoleon and they didn't believe him. I said I was Maradona and they didn't believe me, either." He fell, rose and lay. D10S ETERNO ❤⚽
Hopefully you dropp videos more often man. Best football channel by far
Videos of this quality take time.
You are the best channel out here keep going bro.
These videos, the voice, the nostalgia is all so therapeutic. I love it and I absolutely love this channel
One of the best football documentaries I have ever seen. Keep up the amazing work!!! Absolutely phenomenal.
Beautiful documentary . Maradona always number 1
balón doesn’t just make the best football documentaries on RUclips. He makes the best sports documentaries. period. Forget 30 for 30, balón is 24/24 ✅
Maradona was the real deal. Man was literally friends w the mafia and scored the greatest goal to have been ever scored.
RIP Diego.
Best Football Content Creator on RUclips. The Quality is second to none. Thx and may Allah bless ya.
Amazing, extremely thorough and highly entertaining 👏
one of your greatest videos so far. this was a masterpiece.
Did we really see the best version of Maradona?
Thank you for the such wonderful documentary!
Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this documentary and the beauty of Maradona himself!!
Fantastic job as always you never dissapoint
Love this channel so much bro i clicked the notification as soon as i saw it
MARADONA WAS BY FAR THE BEST FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN THE WORLD FOR A GOOD FEW YEARS. A WONDER OF PLANET EARTH ❤😊 2:29
For me the best football player ever ,for country and club ,those days he won games on his one, when I was 12 he looked like a god on tv ,,first PlayStation football, without, training schedule, ore special food,Messi and Ronaldo are kings,he the king of kings,,rip Maradona
If there is such a thing as a perfect documentary, this is it
A huge fan of your documentaries from pakistan.
Here are few topics you should consider for future videos:
I am addicted to this channel
the goat has returned once again
I can agree with you on one thing tho... the football goat is indeed Argentinian 😉
messi and ronaldo are both greater, should be consensus. Maradona can be in the conversation though along with other greats but those two are different
@@nicknguyen7870 and his name is Diego Maradona 😉
@@mike04574 ronaldo couldn't lace his boots.
One of the greatest? Sure. THE greatest? Hell no.
another banger by Balon, get the popcorn ready
To love football as much as you obviously do to research and produce such informative and needed content to preserve these people, clubs & matches is a genuine gift to football fans. Your greatest eras of teams series was superb.
Another banger guys great job! Maradonas story is so beautiful, so tragic, he was a footballer externally and a human internally. Rip D10S.
Balõn's videos will be played every time football will witness a new fan of the game ❤
Thank you for your work Balon you’re the 🐐
This is the best video ever on Deigo Maradona. Love your documentaries!
A Very good doc and I have seen several on DIOS. There is a nice rhythm and flow to the story. It keeps you engaged on this facinating life that was just as interesting off the pitch as it was on it. I think there will be more to come on his life off the field in the years to come. You showed the two sides of the man, Diego and Maradona.
the best there is, the best there was and the best who ever will be to play the beautiful game. Thanks for all the memories Diego.Rip
This is your best work, Balon.
This channel never disappoints. Keep smashing it bro
Incredible documentary again thanks
