To those who are confused:
A bike can be two things at once. It can be a solid beginner bike and yet not that inspired on track for someone like me who has over 100 days on track and club racing experience.
The R7 is not as fun as an RS660 on track. That does not mean it’s a bad motorcycle. Both are true.
The only person confused here is you!! This is perhaps the worst, most confused take on this bike I have seen. You literally spend the whole session tying yourself up in logic knots.
This bike is everything Yamaha says it is and your riding impressions only confirm that - yet somewhere along the line you decided it should be a track weapon and then fein disappointment when it isn’t.
“The engine feels just like an MT07” - wow what a shocker!!
“The bike feels a little squirrelly” - leaves bike on road tires!!
“It’s not a real R bike” - but the R3 is?
“The RS660 would smoke this” - at 50% more expensive, 30% more power and 100% sticker rubber.
I could go on - but you get the point.
….. or do you?
@@Itsdazma why are you so twisted? It’s just a RUclips video. Go outside, go talk to a loved one
@@Itsdazma he never said it was a bad bike. He actually mostly praised it. They had the road test before and now the track test. It's good for one and ok at the other. It's just the way he sees it all, just an opinion, no reason to get all sour.
@@yammienoob not even remotely twisted. Haha - just calling out your illogical review/RUclips video/opinion. Context is everything - and your failure to reason within context is what I take issue with.
Interested to know what new bike at this price point you would recommend as a better alternative?
@@Itsdazma You do understand that this was a viewer requested video as he stated at the beginning of the video? He literally said its great for the street and it's a great bike in general, but on track, it doesn't have that omph lmao. I think the one confused here is you. You missed the point of the video.
So it's exactly what Yamaha designed it to be.
👍yup, and there's a big audience who will buy the R7. I remember how I loved my R6 riding through the canyons but less love in city traffic.
Exactly
Yep. Notice how the guys on liter bikes slowed him down. It's more bike than most riders can handle.
It is (as I mentioned in the video) but that doesn’t mean it’s anything special.
Yup. It's a great beginner sport bike for street use. It's an MT07 for people who prefer an aggressive sportbike posture and styling.
It's really not a good track option for an experienced rider.
To be sure, Yammie is clear about his "it can be both things". But yeah, it's just not a real track bike, unless maybe you're a beginner.
I feel this was pretty clear from the get go, though. It's based on the CP2 platform (fun, extremely good street engine) but it's got no real top end power. It's damn fun at low rpm, stoplight to stoplight, but pretty meh if you're racing people at highway speeds. Shouldn't expect anything else.
It objectively is *not* a supersport.
Yammie-“this was a super fun day!” Also Yammie while on track, “this is miserable!”
“If you were just honest with yourself you would realize this is all the bike you need” isn’t aging well is it?
"This thing could definitely fill your hole"
Yams, 2021
😂
Beat me to it
Absolutely quote of the year
"Feels like a little twig between the legs" - Also Yams
A wise man once said:
When Papa Yams last track day was his Daytona and the 1098, this is gonna feel lack luster.
Yam, you should have a laptimes list for all these bikes for us to compare. Like Top Gear had.
The difference isn't as big as you might think. Maybe 3 seconds per lap between an R7 and a literbike if I had to guess. Generally about 2 seconds between a 600 and a liter for a given rider if I remember correctly. Aside from that some days you ride better than others. So one day you might turn 1:92 on a liter only to go out a month later and turn 1:92 on the 600. Obviously that doesn't make them the same class of bike. Just different day, maybe different temperature, and in this case he was on some very street biased tires.
Basically, this bike just seems built for your beginner to intermediate R3 rider looking to step up and stay in the Yamaha family. I really think I have to agree it was a missed opportunity to make a true R bike and have it bump the power and excitement up to match the looks. Well, we can only hope an R9 is coming along soon!
Its great that its like that, so us euro bros can use it as an A2 bike, we just have to restrict it to 35kw :/
@@petargacic4299 ah yes. I live in a part of Canada where CC size is irrelevant but thats very true. Us North Americans generally don't have to worry about these things but it's always worth noting how this bike works well in other markets such as yours !
r9 deffinitly will be coming the bike has everything decent power autoblip shifter and decent brakes and suspension the basic foundation is there all yamaha have to do is put clip ons fairing and tweak the setup and they will have a banger r6 replacement the weight is also it wont weight more then the r6 and probally will be faster.
R9 w/that triple and same power as mt09 would be awesome.
This bike is basically like owning a Subaru Brz.. fun fun but nothing scary..its not always about hp ..seems nowadays thats all ppl care about..if you want power get a liter bike, this bike is perfect for everyday use..not to mention it's under 10grand, if u want real performance you're gonna spend over 12k easily (brand new)
In my opinion as this video proves, you can ride it on the street and on track. Better for street obviously. But it's fun and you can learn track riding with this bike. Even though it misses the top end power other superbikes have, but you can still swing it around and gain experience.
I do track days here in Australia and its hard work ppl dont realise the most impressive thing about this video (to me anyway) is how he can throw it around the track still talk through all the pros and cons of the bike, very good still Mr Yammidude.
He used to race.
Taking this thing on the track and then expecting it to be anything great is really kind of silly. This is literally meant to be a sport style bike for the road and it’s really good at that. They have the R6 for the track….. instead of making a jack of all trades‘s they created two masters they are good at what they’re meant for.
Well at last, someone said everything in a few words, !!!and I agree with some attack criticisms that they will do here,... because those who make videos of motorcycles and have several bikes, some experience with different powers,... and take the r7 to the track and expect it to have a performance similar to that of an r6, or a 675 dayathon or another,.. that's kind of silly,.. the r7 is good, yes, but it is an entry-level bike that has only 68hp at the wheel, yes , these are the cv q count ,..and the other 120 to 130 and full sd mods ,.. well,..I think he could say the same , in other words ,..other reactions ,. perhaps
Yam spoiled by pasta-rockets…
19k to go, c’mon subs!
Turbo....
BUUUUSSSAAAAAA!!!!
Yamaha planned it to be an "in between machine ..at best". It looks great. It has a great price & it performs pretty good. Not a full on track bike!
"it feels like it's missing something" ......... yep, on a fast track it's missing the sort of performance you expect from a supersport (ZX6R / CBR600RR / R6 etc) - 15/16k rpm and top end rush ....
Ducati twins don't even rev to 12k... You'd say there's something missing from a 190hp twin ?? Juuuuuust sayin'
No I wouldn't .... but where I'm from (UK) a supersports is a mid capacity sports bike (under 700cc) .... bigger and more powerful sports bikes are more commonly known as superbikes here ... so for me a 190hp Ducati is not a supersports, it's a superbike 😉
@@MotoGoato a STOCK Panigale makes 190hp
@@ProfessorIgor yep ... and where I'm from thats classed as a superbike not a supersports as I already explained ... do you not understand the difference? 🤦♂️
What this bike ever supposed to be a "real supersport"? I thought it was more like something in between. Just.. "sport" so to speak. I don't think anyone thinks of it as a successor to a R6. Or something similar. I do feel maybe they should have given it a different name than "R"7. when I first heard about it, I would have initially thought OMGZ A 700CC R6 successor! But once you looked at the details learned that it wasn't, which is totally okay. The R7 is its own thing.
It would have been similarly confusing if there was a bike named HONDA CBR700R, or a SUZUKI GSX700 (I took one of the "R's" off) Or if Honda took their CB650R and made a fairing clad CBR650R
Maybe if it was a R7S. .. RS7.... MT-07RR I remember there was a Yamaha R6S. But I think that was basically an older R6
Maybe the only thing that's wrong, if there is anything wrong at all, is its name.
Maybe should have named the Yamaha Steve, or Yamaha Yamcha, Krillin......
I'm happy that the R7 exist. I'm kind of sad a YZF-R6 doesn't anymore.
I think the naming was the confusing part. I would have also thought it was a R6 successor. Without seeing that it isn't a YZF-R7
lol, Yamcha.
There is a Honda CBR650R...
@@badkarma11111 Well .... yeah I kind of forgot all about it. Too many variations of bikes these days haha. CB650, CBR650R, CBR650F. hot dang. SSJ SSJ2 SSJ3 SSJ4 SSJG SSJGSS. I'm just Saiyan.
The R7 is the 636 of the 650 world.
MT-07RR would of been perfect
I’m not surprised you felt unsatisfied using this on track when you have multiple 675’s and just tracked the 1098, you’re used to more power so yea no surprise 🤷🏼♂️
Once you been on the track with a faster bike, you don’t wanna go back to smaller one unless you want to compete a few wera amateur races against others in the same class.
And he tracked the fire blade sp on the same day.
Yammie please tell me you didn't ride the 1098, or the fire blade before you put the r7 on the track. If you rode either of those first there is no way you could jump on that r7 and be any where near unbiased. Also you were catching and passing beginners on liter bikes so I think this would ,as you said ,be a perfect bike for beginners and maybe lower intermediate track riders.
Also I'm sure most track riders are not gonna be in the dark on what the r7 looks like and what its supposed to be.
All bikes are fun. Be grateful.
indeed
how can a 700cc bike not be fun, its impossible
Honestly it sounds like a perfect bike to get into track riding.
Not a race bike, so not surprised that it wasn’t too thrilling for Yammie. It’s street biased, and that shows up.
Well Yamaha did advertise it as a track bike, to the extent where it has a track setup available and a good deal of the initial footage of the bike was of it on track. Yamaha were definitely pushing the track bike idea when it was released.
Good video, nice R7 evaluation.
Guess we should just save up $999.99 more and buy a ZX6R then. Easy.
$999.99 for an extra 56 HP.
Sounds like a good deal to me.
Good review.
I rode one today for 1 hour on a local mountain.
I wish I could do a track day on one .
Your opinions. I agree with
Why’s everyone comparing this to the rs660?? Rs660 is like $2500 more.. maybe that’s not a lot of money when talking vehicles, but it’s 1/3 of the R7s price! Imo I wouldn’t compare a 40k car to a 60k car, yamaha could do alot more with R7, if they decided to charge 1/3 more for the R7…
You said something interesting...
As an experienced track day bike you wouldn't recommend the R7. But in the past, I remember you saying experienced riders should even use the R3 if even as a practice bike.
So I'm curious, how is the R3 vs the R7 as a street bike recommendation and as a track day bike recommendation? Would you recommend the R3 to one type of person and the R7 to another?
I have an R3 and it's marketed as a beginner's bike. It's purpose is for you to make all kinds of mistakes until you get something with more power. The problem was, the R6 was overkill; they're not meant for street riding. If you wanted to upgrade but still predominately ride on the streets like most people, you'd get an MT-07.
So no, the R3 is not for one type of person and the R7 is for another. Not usually anyway because there will be exceptions like with people who actually feels the R3 is enough. It depends on the country, or city, and from my experience, the smaller and/or more crowded the place, the more likely a smaller bike would be enough (smaller streets, constant heavy traffic, etc). In the U.S, it is more likely you'll want to crave more power due to how long and big the streets usually are.
Long story short, the R7 is simply a possible upgrade.
In stock configuration, I agree entirely. Once you change out a few parts, this bike comes alive and is a real powerhouse on technical tracks.
Bs
@nazzalgrylls1403 how so? My R7 keeps up and passes 600s and 1ks on track quite often
What are thoes few parts that we can change?
@manideepreddy5152 First, I'd change the front brake pads from stock to at least the EBC HH sintered pads. Much less brake fade and a much nicer bite to them. Getting steel braided lines, the hordpower intake, a full exhaust, a proper tune(not a power commander), and some proper tires turn the bike into a much better setup ride. Granted, if your track has a huge straight section, then you're going to be lacking on power, and there's no getting away from it.
People rely on power way too much. Corner speed is key and knowing how to get on throttle when leaving a turn is crucial.
This is the best review I've seen you do.
This is for someone who has had an R3 or Kawasaki 400 and wanting to upgrade to a higher cc bike but keep it more street style than track. A good commuter bike that gives the appearance of a super sport.
I’d like to see you start making a lap times chart with all the giveaway bikes the way top gear does
Would the R7 be the same price if it was 100HP? Made for a certain rider / buyer / skills level. 75 HP is plenty for the average person. 👍🏼
And the world record for how many almost identical videos that can be milked for the same bike award goes to....
How does anyone with internet access and the ability to read misunderstand this bike and what its for? ...stop trying to make this into a r6 replacement, its meant to be a commuter thats good for city riding while still looking sporty for those those ppl that want the looks without the pain. Yes you can commute on anything just like you can track on anything but these machines are made for a purpose so keep them in their own categories
Yam even says "unless youre a beginner you shouldnt be looking at this bike" ... like yea no kidding
The problem is Yamaha is marketing this as a sport bike when it's clearly not.
I haven't ridden the R7 but I own an MT-07. The CP2 engine is one of the greatest naked street bike engines in the mid range sector. That is why I agree with Yammie. Its just the wrong engine for a sportbike.
7:00 best pickup line ever 😂
1st bike was a Cb300r, wanted my second to be a R7 but went with a Cbr600rr instead and boy am I glad I did . Next bike will be either a 2020 r6 , Daytona 765 spec Ed or a 2017 1000rr sp2 fireblade
Bridgestone recommends 30F/26 rear, and you went with 31F/28R "because it was cold out". If it was particularly cold out, wouldn't you want to got the other way, like say 29F/25R so they can generate more heat despite the cold ambient?
r7 - $8,999
Z900 - $9,199
MT 09 - $9,399
For $200 -$400 more, you get a lot more bike for the money sans fairings.
@No_Name no man, is not about the type of bike he is talking about ( i think), im also on that train, the problem with the R7 is it's price, exactly for what was written up there, it cost the same as a Z900, a 4 cylinder bike 100+HP and tech. The R7 is on the edge of what you will pay for a "end of the road" powerful bike, so you have to ask to yourself if is worth buying a supersport that is not a supersport but a road-city oriented sport bike, or a proper powerful road-city oriented naked bike like a Z900...i like the R7 more than the Z900 and i like sport fairing bikes, but the Z900 is the best package for the money that's for sure...but again, it all depends on what are you gonna be doing with the bike...
@No_Name is not about faster, is about the package you get for the money, i never mentioned speed in my comment, i mentioned rough specs, and on specs the Z900 is better than the R7 no questions asked...but again, if someone wants a fairings sport bike then he will get a firings sport bike just as i did...
People also asking yamaha to make a MT-07 SP but its not going to be far of the price of a MT-09. And almost as much as a R7 (R7 already to expensive)
@@chrishart8548 and what about people asking for an R9, which will end up costing close to an R6, and we know why the R6 was discontinued right (yeah, price) so why an R9?, and if Yamaha comes up with an R9, then why no R6?, i, i don't know anymore XD
@No_Name thats not ignorant saying a a faster bike is a better package, cause it is a fucking sport bikes are supposed to be fast look at how aggressive the body is and how high the seat is .
The R7 never came across me being a hardcore track bike.
I think a tune, exhaust and shorter gears will help it a bunch. As soon as I got on the bike I felt the the gearing was too tall. A you tube video confirmed it when the rider couldn’t hit redline in 6th. Dow a tooth front up front and up one in back should let it push the engine harder. My simple calculations say it should hit 140 in top gear with proper sprockets. I’m sure emissions is the culprit.
Yes
When yammie hates it Roasts a bike I know this is gonna be a fun day and a fun video lol
What would you recommend for a first time track bike? Been riding for 8 + years but have no track experience
I didn't buy mines to be out on the track every weekend but to ride on the streets everyday and it does just great for me
I came into this knowing Yammie would be biased. He doesn't like Sushi. He's all about Pasta.
I have the R7 60th Anniversary. Its plenty of bike to ride around town and the country side.
Are you ever going to get your hands on the 2021 MT-09? It appears to be a much different bike than the outgoing model that you "love to hate".
Great track bike for me. R7 really forces you to be a good rider if you want to be fast on it. Coming off an R6.
Its the 636 of the 650 class. Slightly more CC's and yet.. still a 650. I outgrew my Vulcan 650 in about a month. I'm on a 929 now and I'm never going back to 2 pistons. Inline 4 for life 🤘
Sometime it would be cool to get you a few laps on a proper R7 racebike so you can feel the difference between it and the stock bike
No lol but maybe it’ll show that the R7 can actually be a decent bike on a track. Some tracks we are within 3 seconds of Supersport front runners with this bike so it can’t be that bad
Anyone know how this stacks up against an RS660 on track? The wife and I are thinking of going with one or the other that we can share for track days. We are beginner track riders.
I think that thing its missing is , " MO POWA BABY !" .
I know they're outdated now but can you guys look at a gsxr600 or gsxr750? Debating whether or not to go with those or an R7. I will be doing mostly street stuff commuting, twisties, etc. This will be a second bike and I want something that I can keep for years
R7 is more practical for the street than the other two.
The r7 is more practical plus its a yamaha and not a Suzuki
Get a naked bike for that type of riding. No sense in getting a sport bike that's dedicated for street use and commuting.
@@wetwea33 I don't really like the styling on most Japanese nakeds so idk. The only upright sportbike from Japan is the Ninja 650 and they dump on it all the time. I don't really need the power of a Ninja 1000sx, maybe the cbr650r could be a good option 🤔
@@VolkswagenGamer xsr900 is a great looking bike. I feel like people get caught up way to much in looks of bikes. Sport bikes look like dildo misses to me 🤷
But for a new first time rider lams approved is this a good bike?
I'm in Tulsa. I have a Vitpilen 701. I think my Husky would smoke that thing out there. They are comparable in price and power. Any interest in testing my theory?
So exactly what it was supposed to be. A R styled bike for riding on the street for those who don't like naked bikes. Not a track bike.
Exactly an R STYLED bike not deserving of the R moniker.
with the 2300 bucks you save over the 660 could you make it comparable? also could you ride the sv 650 on track to see what these bikes real competitor is.
Hey Yammy, great vid, would you pick this over the CBR650R?
Hey man, Check the Chase on 2 wheels video.
You should do an exhaust, Ecu flash, and air filter and take it back to the track to see if there is any noticeable difference
+10-15 hp maybe so naturally there be diffrence 🤭
This video was great. It really filled my hole.
i like the styling of the bike. but for that price u can get the 2022 z900 for basically the same price as the R7 and have a better bike all around. it just has a different look. but way better. i wanna know what you think about that bike as wel yamm. and what do you think the next 3 bikes will be in november for kawasaki. love your track days broo
Z900 is such an awesome package for the price. In Germany it is the second most purchased bike and with a good reason.

Running better than the fireblade
Better than an RC390 or ninja 400 on track though??
I love it looks awsome
The r7 reminds me of how automakers toned down sport cars, making them glorified corollas and civics. . Now only one or two rear wheel drive platforms are available (Miata and gt86) aside from Camaro and mustang. The Only difference now is that yamaha fanboys are rooting for the company as they take away the real sport bike and replace it with a suburban/neutered version. The R7 is today what a front wheel drive Toyota celica/corolla became in the 90s. It's today's glorified corolla with flairs and trd badges.
Basically it's today's motorcycling version of a Toyota GR86:
Looks cool, can definitely be fun and sporty.
Not very fast.
A fugazi
DUDE THE CELICA WAS NEVER FAST!
Buy a used R1 then. If emissions laws keeps going we cant ride any vehicle anymore.
Never owned or liked Toyotas so don't get the analogy but ...yes this is a watered dwn sport bike for sure ...but it's cheaper too in price! It's no R6 boys.
Hey Dammie Doob, do you ship them giveaway bikes to euro-peryams? Plz answer mkay, very curious!
I own both a CBR650F and a CBR600RR. You just rode the Yamaha version of my 650F. Fun bike for daily street riding, does most things well. Not a Supersport however. Just a “sport bike”. The visceral feel of a high-revving I4 is hard to duplicate except for something like a Triumph Street Triple. No doubt Yamaha was already aware of this, hence its non-SS price point.
Its supposed to be missing the X factor. Its like the Ninja400 you hated, its built for laptimes and learning, not excitement. Its like a Miata: It teaches you. You dont need to be taught anymore so this is why it feels lacking to you.
The R7 is simply eye candy bike for a young guy who wants a cheap sport bike that looks gorgeous to cruise around in and look great....that's it.
It goes 125-130 that's plenty for 9/10 ppl.. Its a great upgrade if you're coming from 300-400cc .. problem is the R6 comparison , if ppl looked at it as upgrade from the R3, it'll make more sense..42 hp to 74hp.. instead of 116hp(R6) to 74 .
@@motorcycleartist My issue is comparing it to the RS660, which costs over $2,500 more than the R7.
@@CaptainFeathersword I agree, The ninja 650 is the only fair comparison imo..
We need CBR 650R content, compared to a RS 660, an R7, maybe a 600? I think it really is the best balance of street ergos and street engine, but still able to be tracked lightly.
cbr is 700$ more and weighs 30lbs more than the r7. is there any more to say?
@@nick4506 Here in Australia the CBR650r is $8590usd and the Yamaha r7 will be around $10,500usd is what I got quoted from yamaha!

@@justingerada9225 i bet if you get a quote from a dealer on the cbr it will end up over the r7. my number is based on the recommended msrp.
but if you are really a honda fanboy why not go with the cbr, they are almost identical machines, other than the honda being fatter and without adjustable suspension. with is a problem that will cost more than the price difference.
@@nick4506 I did buy the Honda for this reason.... I liked the look of the r7 and the fact it would suit my daily street riding needs with the torque but I couldn't bring myself into paying $14,500aus for one. You can get upgraded front adjustable suspension for the CBR for around $1100.
I'm by far no honda fan boy I love my ducatis and aprillia but being on my probation licence I can't buy one yet.
In my eyes all the bikes are good you just need to choose one that fits your budget and suits your riding style, for me the CBR fulfilled this plus you get that inline4 sound.
@@justingerada9225 yea im still running a 1999 Suzuki bandit 1200 I got at a police auction for a grand. It's been fun changing fork oil weight and playing with the adjustable rear shock. I've got it dam neer perfect for commuting and weekend canyon rides. I'm sure these modern bikes could crack this thing 44 mpg but my experience so far has been pure bliss. I guess ride whatever works for you.
but for me the new field of bikes really don't stoke the magic enough for me to switch. the closest thing for me was the ktm 1290 gt. my friend got one has had abysmal gas milage and a 460$ first oil change bill. I mean for now, the b12 has got it.
Just watched the whole 17 minute vídeo and... There's nothing to be confused about. I don't know how you guys are getting confused with this vídeo... However, I do have one thing I don't agree with. Comparing this bike with the rs660 is just nonsense. Way different pricing, the whole objective of the r7 is to be a fun, peppy bike for the street and maybe try out a track day or two. The rs660 is an all around great street bike as well, but with more aggressive ergos, and very track oriented.
yammie dude, you just made a track video without a track time! is it that bad?
you know this could e the bike that you could really mod out to squeeze out the last bit of BHP!
@yammie Noob Could it be that the R& needs to change the throttle tube for that of an R6 to feel complete
Hi can you please test the cbr 650r on track with prooper race tyre and make comparation beetween r7 660rs and cbr 650r
What about comparing this r7 with the Honda CBR 650r
So what I take from this video is to take whatever this man has to say about a bike with a grain of salt till at least three videos. lol
Well tbf it is still the MT-07 chassis. Can’t expect and ergonomics package to do all the work. And I can’t speak because I ain’t driven it but I’d imagine as you stated the video with… “The R7 is a great entry level track bike”. I think entry is the key word.
The R6 is a comparator to the RS660, not the R7.
Ummh not really...the R6 spanks the rs660 ..esp on the open roads n def the twisties..nothing handles like an R6
@@motorcycleartist You missed my point....I think that me comparing the RS660 to the R6 is as ridiculous as Yammie comparing the RS660 to the R7.
Not quite. Rs660 is still in the same class of bikes technically as r7 , or at least a lot closer to it than an r6. High revving super sport ergos etc 125hp , r7 is closer all around for the most part . Both twins etc
Still they really are all in different sections to some degree
If R7 can be Lowered for Short Riders Like me then it's a Win win :D and If not well I'll just Stick with my R15 V3. I'll just Admire it from a Distance
May as well just get a Tenere 700 then? That seems to actually make good use of this engine in a versatile machine, the R7 somehow seems to turn the MT-07 into more of a toy and then doesn't even hold up on the track?
How does it do against Josh’s SV650?
I agree with some attack criticisms that they will do here,... because those who make videos of motorcycles and have several bikes, some experience with different powers,... and take the r7 to the track and expect it to have a performance similar to that of an r6, or a 675 dayathon or another,.. that's kind of silly,.. the r7 is good, yes, but it is an entry-level bike that has only 68hp at the wheel, yes , these are the cv q count ,..and the other 120 to 130 and full sd mods ,.. well,..I think he could say the same , in other words ,..other reactions ,. perhaps
Curious What's your insurance rate for street bikes ?
How would you compare this to the ninja 400 on track
yeah i do think it feels like a street naked bike, with fairings and clip ons. which is exactly what it is.
Then again, the R7 is not made for the US market, its more centered towards EU as we have regulations, and different licenses. The R7 fits barely into the A2 regulations which other 600s wont. So here its a perfect, or at least almost perfect street/track bike.
I suppose it depends on the sticker price. If it's using existing frames and powertrain, but then want a high price tag, that's commercial suicide, not a way to fatten up profits.
It's actually a wonderful bike for twins racing when the full potential is unlocked of the cp2 the rs660 won't own the class so easily, I hope the yoshimura team gets the the Yamaha to the podium on a regular and take away the championship from the Italians
i'm waiting to see the 8,3 model!
As far as pure track potential, how do you think it would hold up against a SV650? I know the SV is highly regaled and loved, plus has 20 years of aftermarket parts floating around but still curious.
Motoamerica has an actual twins class with R7, Mt-07, rs660 and sv650 bikes. It is extremely competitive between all brands.
@@Aberamentho2010 That's one of my favorite racing classes to watch. Those guys give it their all. It just seems like all of those bikes are built up to the ninth degree with motors that would implode with one extra tenth of a mile past the end of the season. The RS has the upper hand, with higher revs and more horses to play with. The SV hasn't seen any updates in a great while and I think the R7 shares much of the same DNA, just wondering how much. For the context of my question I'm just looking for a bike that's cheap to maintain (tires) for track use. I have a N400 but at 6'1 my feet get wedged into my Rearsets and sometimes stuck in them. I might just grab a cheap SV and give it a go.
@@AndrewDemonbreun : I'm kinda in the same boat. I currently do track days with an N400. Looking for just a little bit more power. I personally think the R7 makes sense & would be an awesome step up. However, I can't logically justify getting it when I can find a low mileage Zx6r for less $. 😢
I think it would be a fun and good looking bike for real world roads.
I just wana say watch thekillacam best day ever vid where he rips on an fz07.. then imagine doing that with an r7
Should they create a separate line for r7 and the like and then a separate one for "the real r7"
MAYBE, but also the r3 exists so maybe it should be called r5 even though it is a 650ish bike
But it would be cool if they tuned the engine differently, to accommodate the sport part of it a bit better, but with the current emissions regulations it would be hard
We can all dream that is for certain...
Just wait for the R7-R ;)
It would be interesting to see someone build one of these with cams etc to get some top end.... hint hint...
Just appreciate it the way it is. An MT07 with fairings.
So fucking happy I got the RS660... I was about to get the R7 if it wasn't for my dad, and THANK GOD I didnt
From a New 09 R1 to the 24 R7, I can say the R7 is for a beginner track bike user or Traffic splitting bike here in LA. it’s an awesome bike. But, for a guy like this Chad or myself, I’d say he’s right. My personal opinion of course 😏 5:38
Still.need a cbr650r comparison
.
Guys in Moto America are turning incredible lap times on them…obviously highly modified, but still within the limits of the stock chassis.
Soon 🙏
Basically, i doesnt pull as hard as a r6 on track, but if you hold good lines and brake well youll roll through corners and a its a good cheap learning tool that is way better for the street than a r6 😊
It's not an R at heart, only in name. Maybe if you put some performance Mods on it, it will be a bit more fun. I was thinking atleast 90-100 HP could make it alot more fun. Let us not forget it's nothing more than an MT-07 with Fairings. It probably built to be a daily but with slight track day capabilities.
In Twins cup trim with a Superbike motor making 90+Hp it changed things completely. Compared to a stock motor it is a big difference that makes the bike way more fun
