It's only exhausting if you were anxious or had bad mental coping mechanics to begin with. If you were healthy and happy, chances are you are doing all this plus or minus one or two things to begin with. But it's ok, if you know you need help you are already on the right track. Just do these things till it becomes second nature.

I kind of wish he had taken the time (or maybe he did and Wired cut it out) to debunk this myth of people being right- or left-brained in that one side is dominant over the other. that's not a thing. *everyone uses all of their brains all of the time* they're awake. sure, certain specific functions occur more on one side than the other, like language comprehension, but most things use many parts of it.
i love this video so much! it actually helped me realize that im NOT doing good at all. I had my first therapy session because my negative thoughts were just too much for me to handle. I got diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Right now, im seriously working on getting better!!!
the first question: why does the brain sometimes forget words me: *literally experienced that two seconds before the clicked on this video* Dr: one of the reasons could be not sleeping and not exercising Me: *hasn't slept in two days and never works out*
I would definitely check out a website called darebee.com that I found a while back. It has exercise routines and stuff you can organize by type and difficulty and such. (there's so much to it that I haven't seen yet because I rarely use it). There's even one I love that says it's for better sleep! It's obviously not some magical cure but it definitely helps loosen up the right muscles if you go to lie down in bed and feel stiff and uncomfortable. It makes it easier to sink in and relax.
am i the only one that has horrible anxiety when i have insomnia? like i cant get my brain to stop thinking about how much time im wasting by staying awake.
What helps me is going to bed at a specific time and actually trying to stay awake. So, say you go to at 10pm, make yourself physically get into bed at that time, even if you're not tired, and try and stay awake. Make a mental note of what you have to do tommorow, what went well today, pray, or just talk to yourself about something. Eventually I'll fall asleep without even realizing it. But theres a lot of different techniques. You gotta find one that works for you.
idk if you're looking for advice, but what helped me was reading a study about how lying down in bed with your eyes closed, quiet, relaxing, even if you're not fully sleeping, is almost as healthy as sleep!! I used to be like "omg only 4 more hours of sleep time left!!!!!" and now I'm like "well at least I'm resting like this"... also, breathing exercises and guided meditations help a lot. I can also recommend the podcast "Sleep With Me", that one's helped me through some tough nights. Good luck 🍀
It can also be cptsd which can be confused with adhd. I cross every box of the stuff he mentioned and i have it on paper that i have cptsd. But People have asked me if I have adhd. I also have gut inflammation, common with People with my disorder because of the insane stress levels we've had for so many years. Diet and workout is key, and mental help, in my case.

You can absolutely do it! I'm in the middle of 3 sessions with an hypnotherapist and I'm already feeling sooo much better. Hypnotherapy is like a self-healing modality, where you are completely in control and can pin point events of your past to relive and properly deal with. Also the 'bright mind' acronym talked about in the video is great to keep in mind to have all your bases covered. Believe in yourself! A huge part of it is beliving, knowing that you can help yourself and heal.

For those who became too anxious to finish the video, I recommend this time stamp: 18:06 "If you want to 'fix a broken brain' you can!" He has so much advice for being brain conscious and mentally healthy. A lot of the symptoms he's describing of brain dysfunction are late stage issues that can occur if they are gone *untreated*. But there is so much good news and hope for people with anxiety and memory issues! When in doubt, talk to your doctor or a walk in clinic. Just like this man, they all want to help you!

I don't know about a note pad but there are crayons & markers for the shower meant for kids that you could get. If you write it on the driest wall during your shower it should stay until you wipe it off. I figure you could copy it down or take a pic of it once you get done with your shower. I know Crayola makes a crayon bath set for sure, that will last a while, that is with a rabid 4 yr old smashing them into tile after soaking them in tub for ages to make 'rainbow goo.' Just be careful if your shower walls are porous because the red can leave a slight stain that is a pain to clean.
Alternatively, have your phone in the bathroom and just turn your voice recorder on before you get in the shower and say whatever it is you need to remember

This was so refreshing to hear. I think a lot of doctors are so fast to prescribe drugs and not see the underlying issues. ESPECIALLY physical issues like diet, exercise, head trauma, etc… A healthy body can help so much, and I feel like there’s this trend going around of people saying that healthy diet and exercise is “fat-phobic”, which in turn causes more issues. Can cause this endless cycle of depression because of how you look, then when you try to change it you’re told it’s not good, which causes more depression, etc.

Meditation, keeping a journal, exercise etc. are all great but why didn't he talk about psychotherapy at all? Helped me with my anxiety disorder, helped me to understand how to keep mental hygiene after I finish therapy and why it's worth it etc. And, most importantly, helped me to address the root causes of anxiety in my life. I know there are brains and nervous systems more prone to anxiety, just like mine, it's inherited, I get it, but there were huge triggers to this anxiety in my biography, as well. Thank you for bringing it up. Psychotherapy helps but it is always prescribed by a doctor and it is tailored to the patients. These people will have to see a psychiatrist for said therapy. Doctors can't diagnose without interacting with the patient, and sometimes even have to be backed up with brain scans or other exams. Without these (which can actually take some time) he can't recommend psychotherapy to these patients. Sometimes it's easier on the brain to be miserable & unhealthy, but where does that lead you in a lifetime ... **sigh**
It's only exhausting if you were anxious or had bad mental coping mechanics to begin with. If you were healthy and happy, chances are you are doing all this plus or minus one or two things to begin with. But it's ok, if you know you need help you are already on the right track. Me too, and these days i'm not sleeping that good. My whole life seems to turn upside down when i can't sleep early :')
Felt that too hard, when my sleep is disturbed at night I feel so anxious I start to cry
Good luck 🍀

What he CAN do (and doing here) is give CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy), a very valid form of therapy, especially in adult patients as well. But yes, for some cases CBT will not be enough and you might need psychotherapy.
