I was reading about Vienna Horns, turns out they are playing horns unique to Vienna, thus, the name. I just assumed they were playing French horns too, but turns out there is literally a difference between French and Vienna horns. Apparently, there are more bends in a Vienna horn giving it a more distinct sound.
The Vienna Horns are part of the Horn Family, they are different from French Horns and Double Horns because they do not use rotors like typical French Horns. They instead use piston valves similar to most trumpets (save the German Rotor Trumpets). They are also wrapped differently, giving the horn a different natural resonance. A good player could imitate a Vienna Horn sound on a F horn (Double horn in F) given enough practice and the correct air support and embouchure.
I’m want to play a veinna horn so badly but I’ve never gotten the chance. I would buy one in an instant if I wasn’t a college student making only 15 an hour

The Vienna Horn is a very neat special cousin of the French Horn and when done well I like Better… I also like Rotary Trumpets as a trumpet player..

@@elliotnewton6899 euphs sound good, sure, but their sound, to me, is somewhat lifeless. Its missing all those overtones.
Horn is interesting because if it’s not played well it sounds terrible, but when it’s played perfectly...well we already know.
