👏 "As a foreigner living in China, you get these occasional like, what the f*** I am in China moments. And when you first arrive, you get them all the time. You just have to pinch yourself and say, this isn't just some sort of dream, this is real life. But as you live here for longer you start to get less and less of these kind of amazing 'pinch-yourself' moments. But right now, when I was watching these people just stood in front of this Pavilion, doing their Tai Chi, I just had to take a breath and say this is real. This isn't some amazing dream." 💗

That bitter melon cake (苦瓜饼)is good for the body especially in the hot summer, because it can cool the body of excessive heat (清热解毒). People choose to eat it not for the taste but for its medicinal value although it tastes a little bitter.

Just stumbled upon your 3 series vlog about GZ by accident. My home for the last 20 years and whilst you did cover a lot of the good parts, you probably missed a million better things or places to see. This city has a new surprise awaiting around every corner every single day and it never ceases to amaze me. You were definitely spot on with how friendly the locals here are, even if you only speak basic Chinese. BTW recognised the cutlery of the finished Pizza - Ze'Vero at the end of Dongshankou. Fantastic restaurant if you're after some authentic Italian Food. Good job and have subscribed now and look forward to your next China adventure! Zhongguo Jia You!

Oh heck, you make me homesick for Guangzhou :( ! Aussie here- I moved to China in 2004 for 1 year that somehow turned into 10 (!), and spent 6 years in Guangdong (1 year in Zengcheng, just over from Guangzhou), a year in Dongguan, then 1 in Shenzhen, and my final 3 years in Guangzhou There was ALWAYS something new to see, do or taste every weekend in Guangzhou and I still didn't cover it all! The ladies dancing reminds me of my favourite moments catching the bus home from work around 9.30pm every night in Louhu (Shenzhen) and going past the Deng Xiaoping park on the corner of (I think) Shannon Dadao and watching all the elderly doing tai chi, mostly in the dark. Just really showed how safe it is and how happy they were!

I was born and raised in Guangzhou until my elementary school graduation. Canton Tower wasn’t there when we immigrated. It’s nicknamed 小蛮腰 Little Slim Waist, which is not hard to see why. Pearl River Bridge 海珠桥 has been a round, and later they added 海印桥 (Sea Impression Bridge?). Every time I travel back, street food is a must, especially chang fen 肠粉 and wonton noodle soup 馄饨面. I will be traveling back soon to visit my relatives in HK, Macau, Guangzhou and Shanghai, and hopefully more trips around China. Blessings ❤
Oh that lotus leaves wrapped sticky rice bundle is called 糯米鸡. It’s one of the many Cantonese dim sum dishes, basically sticky rice with fillings like chicken, mushrooms, Chinese sausage, and sometimes salty egg yolk.
When I was still in Guangzhou as a kid, Guangzhou Restaurant 广州酒家 was famous. Right now there’s 点都德 Dim Dou Duk, it’s a bit like the Cantonese expression “however you want it”.

I'm from Guangzhou and I absolutely love my hometown. However, it's quite unbearable in the summer, and winter only lasts for a few months. Also, like Beijing and Shenzhen, Guangzhou has a huge poplulation as many people from different parts of the country come here to seek opportunities. Public transportation could be quite crowded. But those aside, Guangzhou is a very vibrant city and I missed living there so much

For contrast, the Orchid garden near by is a nice oasis of tranquility, with Uighur street food jt outside and a mosque nearby with a large African and Middle Eastern congregation that can be seen in the surrounding streets headings towards the calls for prayer. Xiaobei district is also worth checking out with African restaurants and bars serving the expat community.

There's an other place for night life at Guangzhou we call PATI 琶醍(exact pronunciation like PARTY LOL ) and a wonderful place to see Guangzhou CBD night view.
FYI, I think lots of Cantonese haven't been to the top of that tower, cuz the tickets are really expansive and just doesn't fit Cantonese philosophy. But we do like to appreciate it from all angles,on the ground or from other buildings. I've live in GZ for more than a decade and I haven't been up there yet, I guess I am just waiting for a special occasion plus a great sunset. It was part of the government hall of Guangdong for dynasties over a thousand years until Sun Yat-sen changed it into a park for the public. Because Yum Cha place Must be big as hall, there’s no small restaurant for Yum Cha.Yum Cha is a culture people love to seat together and talk for hours, so it must be more people, they enjoy the atmosphere. So next time don’t look for it on the street, you can ask local people for the good place.😊
