Absolutely stunning. Such beautiful lyrics. Really don't think Guy gets enough credit for what a stellar lyricist he is. Some of his lines are up there with Leonard Cohen and Dylan. The first line of this song alone just sends shivers down my spine: "In the hills it's an overcoat colder ... "

+Dean Muscat Hi I am Italian and I really like Garvey and Elbow and for what I can understand his lyrics are incredible. Sometimes even hard to fully comprehend. I have read your comment on the first line: can you please tell me why you find it so great? To my Italian ears I got the meaning that on a hil you a have colder coat. But maybe in English it means something different and surely deeper. Thanks for your reply
+Gabriel Tripaldi I think what they were trying to say is that Guy is able to express sensations, such as the cold, in a more beautiful and eloquent manner, if this helps at all? Meaning, after all, is open to all sorts of interpretation

He's got that knack of writing songs that go for the emotional juggler. This is up there with Scattered Black and Whites for me. I prefer his heavy and upbeat stuff but can't deny this is a sweet sweet song.
JacqAlb83 I just love Towercrane driver live at the o2 in London or at men in Manchester. The best is when he sings it at the award ceremony in 2008 when Elbow won the mercury. It’s on you tube. Given what it’s about it’ll break your heart

I don't like their later stuff granted, but i think their first 2 albums are great. And they deserve credit for making music at all. I never wrote a song, but they have wrote albums. Good people and good at what they do.
