It's Like Bobby Moore mate!! The FA/Whoever!!! The REAL People know!!! Reni Amazing/Shuffling/Groove/RnR Drummer!!! He can hit The High hat & Just make a Tuuuuuunnne!!!!! Class x
Oh man, I`ve seen a lot of drummers, but Reni is something else, so much swing, so fluid, just effortless. And Mani....every time he plays with his boys he is the happiest man in the world.
+twobyfour Yes mate. I mind hearing stories from the early yars that folk used to go just to watch Reni i can totally believe it . Add to that his harmonies . Im so happy i got to see him play the tunes we all love and ill be over the moon to hear some more soon
Was lucky enough to see the Stone Roses at the International a few times and Dingwalls in London, prior to the album. Went to see the band not just for Reni, but I do remember specifically being blown away by his drumming and so fascinated by his infectious groove (and how he effortlessly produced a sophistication sound from what was a really bare bones kit) that my attention was more on watching him.. can't really describe, but the hi-hat work and those snare rolls were electric- raised the hairs on my neck.. :) I prefered the earlier material personally- these isolated tracks have a bit more of that rawness that they had during those gigs that was produced out a bit, from the album onward.. The most vivid memory was So Young, and EVERYONE in the place singing in unison "In a misery dictionary..." They played it so much better live than on the record, and Reni's drumming completely electric ..
Oops forgot which video I was on duh..:) by "isolated tracks" I was referring to the isolated Reni drums recordings on here, search for those terms, or try /watch?v=2iePKcrATSA

The look of joy when Reni gets back in the groove with Mani -just fab. Like one of those will it start VW combi lost in a forest for 25 years videos, turn the key - tak taka tak taka- as if it ran yesterday.
Ah Reni - a total pain in the arse by all accounts - but the most incredible musician. There is no Roses without him - his backing vocals are an underrated part of the beauty of their early sound. Imagine if you and 3 other mates could make music like that when you got in a room together.... staggering.
Reni is the Star. I love how he and Mani interact- it’s so genuine compared to Brown’s posturing and Squire just futzing around. They’re all great but Mani and Reni make it fun and do more than just lay the foundation for the music. No Reni, no magic.
All drummers I’ve seen has had a signature face of pure concentration or focus, whereas Reni does it with his eyes shut. All fluent flawless movements easily one of if not the the most talented drummer of all time
Yes, Reni is the best. I don't know this band well enough to know, does Reni play each time a little different from all the other times, or does he play the same every time?
@@klausrain111 he is very signature in the way he grooves and sings so well with the drums so I’d say they’re is a small bit of variety in his playing but it’s still the godlike composure that makes him untouchable ✋

One of the greatest bands of all time, renowned for their enigma and caginess, and yet there is footage of one of their rehearsals and it feels like any band practise, in that they're just jamming. John Squire just casually sat around noodling. Brilliant.
It's the tension in their chemistry that created that magic too. Ian looks totally out of place there. Squire's a typical artist - difficult character to deal with. Imagine being Ian and having to sing Squire's songs the way he wants them. Reminds me a LOT of _The Who_ - same dynamic between the members.
Holy moly, just brilliant. The Roses jamming like this is just the dog's. I would happily pay top dollar to hear more of this stuff from them. Reni is the tops and the guy that blends them all together but individually and as a whole they are the are pure class and by far the best in this genre.
Love them all, Reni and John are rock gods of their instruments. They truly took rock music where it had never gone before, and certainly no band around today can match them and their innovation, originality, inventiveness. Truly among the all time greats.
Fookin' gleamingly brilliant band. RIpping tunes I learnt to play with real mediocrity. Mani and Reni are technically classified as "the magic monster rhythm rock sprites". Massive cool rep in the North. All of us youngsters dancing like a box a frogs in the Queens Hall, Blackpool Empress Ballroom and The Ally Pally man. Recollecting tears of joy. MUSIC !!! MUSIC !! Indebted man, indebted even though I bought your records and tickets to the gigs......
Leo Townsley Well there would be a point in making an album if it was good, it wouldn't need to be better than their debut. Brown said himself though that creatively they tried but didn't have it it anymore.
"Brown said himself though that creatively they tried but didn't have it it anymore." I think they do have it, and could make awesome music, but the fear of having a third coming flopping is bigger after all the trauma

There are so many things to love about The Stone Roses. One of them has to be the way each of one of them is such a star in their own right. An organic supergroup. Bit like The Who. But take one out and the quality is not the same no matter who the replacement. With The Stone Roses the musical bond between them is so special and forged by experience and friendship. Yet it is this same friendship that causes the musical bond to become a fleeting firework.
It’s said that reni is self taught. If that’s the case , he’s a pure genius. Very rare for a self taught drummer to have perfect timing, technique, groove, and a unique style. On top of that he’s playing traditional grip here, not something that comes natural to most drummers. One of a kind
Definitely unusual for someone self taught not to use matched grip. His playing is both tasteful and fluid, he is also, invariably, in the pocket at all times. Excellent.
No doubting that Reni is an excellent drummer and his backing vocals are brilliant-it's such a shame that he is such a fucking headcase and has caused more trouble in The Roses than the other 3 put together
