I'm listening. Best band since the Beatles. Bought my Russian brother in law a Spike Island t shirt but I don't think my explanation of what it meant quite worked...
That hypnotic, circular guitar figure. The pulsing cadence of the drums. That mellifluous, luminous bass line. And of course, Ian Brown's breathy, lyrical, crooning voice. This, my friends, is what's known as the perfect pop song.
The Stone Roses debut album is a waterfall of sounds and emotions. A cascading torrent of sonic panoramas that just sweeps you along with the force of its intensity. We'll all carry on through it all thanks to the Stone Roses immaculate music.
Lyric waterfall Chimes sing Sunday morn, Today's the day she's sworn, To steal what she never could own, And race from this hole she calls home Now you're at the wheel, Tell me how, how does it feel? So good to have equalised, To lift up the lids of your eyes As the miles they disappear, See land begin to clear, Free from the filth and the scum, This American satellite's won She'll carry on through it all, She's a waterfall She'll carry on through it all, She's a waterfall See the steeple pine, The hills as old as time, Soon to be put to the test, To be whipped by the winds of the west Stands on shifting sands, The scales held in her hands, The wind it just whips her and wails, And fills up her brigantine sails She'll carry on through it all, She's a waterfall She'll carry on through it all, She's a waterfall

I was lucky enough to see them at The Roadmender in Northampton, England in 1989. They did the first album in order. Tickets were £3.50 each. It's still probably the best gig I've ever been to and I'm 50 now.

You make wonderful music Mr Brown. I’m a brown lady who spent time on the IOW and went university, your music kept going with the racists around me. Thanks Stone Roses and your legacy. Think it kept me sane as well alive 😊and you are sweet, humble and apart from that real gentleman. So thanks again my Jedi
When you listen to them in the car, they sound unbelievable. When you listen to them on vinyl they are again just as good. But when you sit there with them on full blast on a set of headphones late at night, alone with your thoughts, you truly realise how magical their music is. @ Scot Scotland Well, for sure he is class. Yet: Don't generally underestimate the drummers. Most of the really "good" bands have great drummers - otherwise it don't work. Might be that sometimes you don't dig it immediately why a certain group is sounding that darn great, then turns out its the rhythmic foundation that provides it. Actually: A good band can rather cope with a weak guitar player than a weak drummer, then it's dead.
