  • I show how to adjust the shift cable on a Shimano Nexus Inter 3 three speed internal geared hub. It's a fast and easy adjustment. And you pretty much just need a 10mm wrench.

This works for the later plastic-housing Nexus 3-speed clickboxes as well. Also, it is always a good idea to cycle the shifter about 5-8 times during adjustment - a few times more than you'd expect. Occasionally you'll find the adjustment won't hold it's initial position. If anything sticks, undo the clickbox using the 10mm wrench at the back (cable will stay on) and check the hub pushrod for grease or a kink in the spring.

  • @yahdo

Bought a Priority and had it "professionally" assembled and inspected. Besides assembly delays, the front wheel wasn't even aligned with the handlebars. I'm new to bicycling, and that's probably a pretty minor thing since I imagine most people would adjust the saddle and bars anyway, but it made me question what else they missed.
Of course, the bell crank needed a lot of adjustment. Thanks for the quick and concise video, much unlike this comment. 🙂

I suspect some people would be interested, that would get clicked quite a lot, i don’t see clear tutorials out there. I thought about doing it for my mother’s bike but was put off by the lack of info, i didn’t want to end up with a bunch of small parts on the table and being unable to reassemble. Just suggesting.

I trust the Shimano Nexus 3 IGH is, by an order of magnitude, more reliable than the Nexus 7/ 8 IGH Hubs? I can't even even imagjne the Alfine 11s and NuViolo CVTs. If you were building a bike for world wide adventure touring, would you personally trust a ROHLOFF 14 IGH and a PINION 12/18 with a GATES Carbon Belt Drive for foul weather reliabilty? Still prefer traditional cassette geared drivetrain for bulletproof reliability and ease of service? New subscriber here. You disassembly and reassembly of that NEXUS 8 was flippin mind blowing. Def designed by Aliens. That the human mind can conceive, design, and fabricate such a complex device is astounding. Great job!

@@RJTheBikeGuy thanks RJ. But the bike shops here are not in the retail business for cables. They sell them for 8-10 bucks apiece, for which I can get 10 sets on Amazon.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand : be sure to pour in some quality car oil into it too ! SA E 30 is fine . To get access, remove bell crank assembly and push rod then dribble oil into hollow axle end-----ten to thirty drops is good. Bring back oiling ports!!!!!

Mr RJ, another great video thx,
    I have a Question,
I made a short video of myself testing my tallbike for the first time.
I'm thinking of posting a 'build video'
But I feel obligated to Show Respect where it's due ( in the form of a shout out, A thank you, with a link to your channel)
The video will be safe and clean for all ages,
    Is this ok with you?
    Is this normal? Idk,
Also I only build freakbikes so we don't really compete for the same audience.
    If the answer is No!
    I understand thx anyway........Rock On

Hi RJ, I really enjoy your videos. I have learned a lot. I no longer have an active Facebook account, so will ask my question here and hope you will see and answer it. I want to modify a 3 x 8 derailleur system into a 1 x 5. Can't find individual cogs anywhere, so my plan is to take a 10 speed cassette, disassemble the cogs, and mount them on an 8 cog cassette. I have an SHIMANO HG50 8 Speed Mountain Bike Cassette
with Cogs 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-34. I want to disassemble this cassette as well and restack and rivet the cogs thus: 11-13-(16)-(20)-(28)-(36)-(50)-34, using only the cogs in parenthesis. My question is "will the derailleur be capable of making a smooth shift from the 36T cog to the 50T cog". I have looked but have not found any information that says what the maximum number of link variance a derailleur can handle.
Another question I have is will a SRAM X.4 8-Speed Trigger Set work on the Shimano HG 50?
Thank you for any help you care to send my way. Have a good one!
    FrankyLynn

My son, 6'5", raised the seat of an Electra, too small for him. Sitting on the seat, he toted his toddlers everywhere, but the seat pole bent the frame backward. How would that be possible to fix if salvageable? Dispose of bike?
He has a new bike for his size now. The previous bike was a $300 bike. Grease the seat bar and slowly attempt to reinsert it into the frame. The frame in front of the seat, joins to meet the frame of the seat right at the bend.
So 90% of the seat bar was pulled out of the frame, and tightened for his leg length, meaning as he rode the bike with the elevated seat, it bent the frame so the seat bent back toward the back wheel, putting a significant bend in the frame.
One guess was to brace the frame with a clamp for pipe that slowly tightens the frame back enough to get the seat post back into the frame. Who would I donate it to.

    • @RJTheBikeGuy
      @RJTheBikeGuy  3 года назад

If the frame is bent, it is probably junk now. Get a new frame, and swap the parts maybe.
