    POV: You. An individual of a black ark corsair unit with a handbow under the command of one of the most fearsome and ruthless individuals who ever lived and have been raiding coastal cities for years to acquire more slaves for the tower of the blessed dread. One day you come across an army of high elves to stop you. Commander Fellharts sworn enemies. You orders are to hold as you watch your commander mount his fearsome dragon Malestrom and proceeded.. to fly back and forth really fast spouting nonsense as he goes "Going! Moving! It is done! Forward Crew! For the Blessed Dread! I go!"

While demonstrating the capacity of the unit in question is important, showcasing the full power of the army without TOO much cheese (or in other words, playing it normally) will provide more insight on how the army should work for people who are new to warhammer 2 and 3 and/or in need of an easy-to-use army.

      @Mahfireballs 3 года назад +2

      Yeah I think it's a real nice touch to do, especially for people who are new to total war (Warhammer) to display what kind of difference things like magic or wasting ammo, checker board,... make.
      It probably shouldn't be done in every video (Of course you can nobody is stopping you XD, and it's not bad content at all as it's quite "educational" in total war terms. But people will probably get tired sooner from watching the same "battle setup" twice at least compared to different videos. And you making so many hours of content a day they might choose to watch a different video as well you only have so much time a day, week,... to watch yt,...
      But I did really like in in here, with armies like this where the Wizard works well with army and getting those early kills and dmg on key units or waste ammo,... Doesn't just give you 400 more kills or less death from arrows but it makes all the difference between getting overwhelmed and losing the fight or getting a crushing victory. So getting 400 kills before the battle starts or wasting all the ammo. Is not just that (When you have a missile based army or... yourself) but the impact is way bigger than that.
      And you tell this all the time in livestreams videos, why you don't bother with certain banners, or direct damage spells like Spirit leach or Dragon Breath. As you focus more on the macro battle then the micro. As the importance is way bigger, so making sure all units are shooting all the time is way more important than using that one free debuff or dragon breath. And just displaying the difference in these fights makes it way clearer for a lot of people and convinces people of the importance. Way more then you just repeating it again on a livestream. Kinda show don't tell or more like explain while showing for each comprehension.
      Anyway good video.

  • @rade1809
    @rade1809 3 года назад +49

    It's a really good doomstack as soon as you get that extra armor piercing, because you'll be fighting dinos with Fellheart for most of the early game, unless you decide to migrate to Karond Kar and abandon Lustria. That -50% upkeep is essential early game on higher difficulties.
    Shades aren't even that good for Lokhir since he can't get the range buff for them that non-LL lords can get. The switch is worth it only when you get that ridiculous dark elf slave economy going late game.

    • @mandu6665

    • @shorewall
      @shorewall 3 года назад +7

      -50% upkeep is always huge early game. It lets you kick butt while saving money to invest in your settlements. I've played a lot of Kroq-Gar, and that -50% on saurus is huge in the initial game. Once you get your economy going, then you can do whatever you want.
      On the other hand, Mazdamundi having -50% for Temple Guard is not as impactful, since they are a late game unit that requires two buildings, and are overshadowed by the Single Entities Monsters that only require one building. :D Also, by this point you will have multiple armies, so having -50% on a certain unit in one army doesn't make as much of a difference.

    Having conquered all of Lustria with it this stack is definitely stronger than it may seem here. It's may purpose is that by turn 3 you have an army that can deal with all the lizzardmen and skaven in Lustria with their kiting abilities and their stalk.
    This stack hates getting outranged and you shouldn't use it against HE.
    People saying it isn't that strong need to compare it to the HE archer spam not the Sister of Avelorn stack.
    In that respect it's good but you want to switch to shades and hydra once you have the time and money to do so but Lokhir campaign can be played very strangely thanks to you BA.

      As someone who's tried a lot of tehenauin, against lizardmen this is an s tier doomstack by AI standard. Handbows are faster than saurus,both outmelee and outshoot all skinks, and don't usually blob up so I can shred them all with one spell. Dinos can deal with one unit no problem, but their ap means they can't really deal with 2, and even the ai can often peel monsters off them If I don't micro them.

    Glad you fought it with the wizard as it is an integral part of the army.

    • @sympunny8636
      @sympunny8636 3 года назад

      it's not really an integral part of the army, since it doesn't have any special synergy with the rest of it. It's just there because fire magic is powerful af. We've all seen and played with fire magic, it's op. But we've seen it a ton, it's nothing new. It has no special synergy with the rest of the stack, lokhir doesn't buff it, and it doesn't have any important interactions with the corsairs unlike lets say blobbed treemen with the dwellers below. Now if it'd had Flaming Sword of Rhuin, it would've made much more sense, because it could've specifically buffed the corsairs, which are the interesting new buffed units on display. But yeah, if you just have fire magic carry the corsairs to victory it doesn't really test the doomstack at all, because fire magic could absolutely annihilate the majority of that enemy army, regardless of what units was in the rest of the allied army.

    • @JB-xl2jc
      @JB-xl2jc 3 года назад +2

      They don't necessarily need to synergize directly, they just need to be able to cover for each other's weakness. In real life a tank doesn't necessarily make the infantry stronger themselves, but it does counter things that infantry can't so they are both integral parts of an army.

    • @sympunny8636
      @sympunny8636 3 года назад

      @@JB-xl2jc but...what the weakness the corsairs are covering for? The fire mage can pretty much take out the entire enemy army by herself, we've seen it a ton of times. She doesn't need the corsairs at all, it's op. We know how op a dark elf fire mage is already, let's actually see the newly buffed corsairs do stuff for themselves, and see their weaknesses/strengths rather than just firestorm goes brrrrrr on the enemy army, we don't really learn much about the corsairs themselves in that fight.

    • @JB-xl2jc
      @JB-xl2jc 3 года назад +1

      @@sympunny8636 Well for one thing, you need someone on the ground. That's a weakness. Also magic resistant enemies will prove difficult to deal with for a mage alone. Also positioning the enemies properly without a mage (especially if you don't have hundreds of WoM) can be difficult. They allow you to easily control the flow of battle by putting enemies into disadvantageous positions and also causing damage, and when combined with the fire mage will cause more mayhem than either of them could alone. Hence, they work well together. Another example is Lokhir heading straight to take out the artillery is good practice, it makes him integral in that he takes out something that is marginally more difficult for the mage to take out and nearly impossible for the corsairs to take out. Mages are OP until they run out of WoM and the Corsairs can then trade excellently in terms of balance of power.

    This is a great early game doomstack for a few reasons... 1. it’s a really efficient campaign army, its low upkeep and it can replenish almost immediately if units die (with a black ark) just by recruiting new units. Playing as blessed dread getting your first black ark to tier 5 happens almost immediately.
    2. This army is actually really viable in melee even on legendary/vh. You can buff these guys up to around 75-80 melee attack before turn 30. Personally I prefer lokhir with wizard 9 regular corsairs and 9 handbows.
    3. Corsairs are pretty fast and can mess around the enemy once they delete the enemy army’s cav/flyers in open field battles, but can also just stalk their way up to walls and work well in sieges. Its a versatile stack that can handle pretty much anything besides an AI arcane phoenix doomstack later in the campaign.
    Shades are definitely a better doomstack for every other lord but I do think lokhir gives them enough buffs to put them over the top even in the late game

    Lokhir buffes them quite well and with technologies this Stack is quite strong. As long as you do not fight shadow Warriors or chameleon skinks🤔
    - because of their shorter range you can hunt archers away and shoot them in the back
    - the are fast and damage dealing with stalk
    - Lokhir gives them Armor piercing missiles
    - they got a bonus against infantry
    - Avoid combat with higher tier units and skirmish them
    -use lokhir as a tank and lordkiller his Helmet heals him and he got 130 Armor, he will be fine for a bit
    - get disciplined in there to boost their melee

    yeah definitely do the battle properly it shows just how well the composition actually does its not always about the individual units but rather the stack itself

    • @Mahfireballs
      @Mahfireballs 3 года назад

      Well the problem is that if you have any wizard with some magic especially if your Wizard can cast without being in danger of getting caught or shot to pieces. (In a siege or attack battle or if the wizard is flying and you can hide or escape with the rest of your units if you are attacked for example.) Then the best line of actions is just to keep on casting on key units which you can most likely hit and it fully or multiple units. And if the possibility exist you should waste all their ammo and... And if you watch Legend and he needs his army to be at full strength at the end of the fight because he could be counterattacked or he has to move on, or the army he is facing is nearly his strength or stronger then Legend will definitely do this. But where do you draw the line, he could use the infinite cast exploit with some wizards or swooping for an hour with a flying unit or...
      And those battle have rather boring parts gameplay wise (Is a time to talk and read chat in livestreams so that's fine) and there are some people who do not like it as they can be monotone and tedious to play or especially watch. So well yeah if you show a potential doomstack you should probably use all its aspects, but this will often mean just use the wizard and lord to do 80% of the work and so every doomstack would come down to what lord and wizard do you have. What is there trait, lv and lore and then the rest "barely matters" (in comparison)
      So people asked for him to kinda more yolo the armies in or just only waste the ammo or just send in his main forces at the start and still use magic. And so on and on so there is no clear way he should play with these send in doomstacks as there is no consensus on his viewing community and not even in Legend mind. As some armies like this who can all stalk and run quite fast are built to synergise well to just use your flying wizard at the start and the make full use of all your Black Ark abilities. Where other armies the wizard doesn't really synergise as well but if she has the same lore the wizard might have the same damage output.
      But then you got armies who have the sword of Khaine (even on factions or characters that definitely shouldn't have it) or are fully max lv heroes and with epic equipment and health potions,... So do you try to use it all (even if you never used the stack so are not familiar with it) and then later rate it low for practicality or how early you can get it. Or what you potential you lose with your other armies or economy to get certain (units or) heroes (so many) in one army.
      So yeah kinda turned out to be long comment, just explaining that you are not wrong but it's not that easy. As "yeah definitely do the battle properly..." is not so clear cut as it might seem, does it mean do it to your best of your abilities or... And how do you determine things like that, also the difference of opponent (facing the hardest possible opponent, vs to easy) the faction you are facing and what are the odds your will actually face it at this turn in a campaign. And so on makes rating it accurately almost impossible but it has always been about the general idea, hence the multiple ratings.
      But as someone said with these early game armies using "everything" you have at your display is more logical. Because at "the early game" there is not that much to choose as you have to work with what you got, only having 1(-2) army and "not really being able" to pick and choose this and that. But yeah where do you draw the line and how.
      Have a good day.

    They're alright for field battles in 1v1 stacks - skirmishing with them allows you to pull enemy army apart and throw them into gaps, fighting faster troops in melee, while shooting in their backs. Biggest problem is artillery - you need a flyer to get rid of it. And they're not so good for sieges - you'll have to scale the walls and engage in a bitter melee

    Personally when it comes to Lokhir I do still have corsairs in his army late game, like 4 of them to be a bit of a frontline to keep cav and such away from shades, this way his buffs for corsairs are still doing something, and has a bit of his flavor so to speak, but a majority of the killing power comes from the shades. But that's cause I like having themed armies when possible. Granted my favorite themed army is also a doomstack, it involves a bunch of angry half-dragon beasts with giant axes, a fondness for lightning, lead by a very angry moving mountain. It makes empire armies cry themselves to sleep, and high elves stay in the donut. Or at least it would if the AI would stop ruin dwelling 2 turns after I raze something.

Meaning stealthy movement, try to put enemy in bad positions, ect ect, you know skaven tactics. Obviously the battlefield will play much different but as far as the campaign map goes they can be played similarly. Mainly just looking for your thoughts on that matter

    I think doing the battle twice works only for this kind of army where it doesn't work as well when you just throw them in rather than fight the battle efficiently. However, when the army is too strong (eg. the KoTG doomstack) or require a particular way to work (eg. Skaven weapon's team), then doing the battle twice doesn't mean anything.

    I mean I can understand not fighting optimally by using the mages and lords because you want to test the units but in some stacks like this they're not intended to be used by themselves and wouldn't be extected to achieve good results that way. I think the middle ground is fighting the battle as its intended to be used. That doesn't mean using it to the best of your ability like for example only using the lord but use it the way the person sending it in suggests it should be used. I imagine in this case black ark abilities and the flame magic are part of the stack.

    I think the reason why Lokhir is missing the item that gives him regen is because the quest is bugged. At least it is for me.

    Legend didn't use the Black Ark Corsairs to its full potential. The Black Ark Corsairs have stalk and vanguard deployment. He could easily flank them right from the start. Putting the visible lord and hero in one corner of the map would have forced them over there while the Black Ark Corsairs could have picked at the enemy from all angles. The hero and lord could have gone separate ways to divide the enemy into easy fights. A stalking army like this that fire on the move and can run from other infantry can be very powerful as long as you make use of the stalk and divide the enemy. Even without magic this could have been a fairly easy fight.

    • @warhammerguy
      @warhammerguy 3 года назад +5

      Sure, but I feel there is a big difference in using the wizard and abilities in synergy with the doomstack rather than letting the wizard do all the work while the entire doomstack hides in the forest. It was built that way for a reason.

      @@warhammerguy Actually we all know how good a fire wizard/sorceress is, what if we try other Lores to create a synergy. Likd Beast might have been good in this doomstack to give more damage resistance since I find Corsair units lack it

    • @antcig
      @antcig 3 года назад +1

      It really depends on the presented challenge. If he was against 3 or more full stack, he would have use the fire wizard. But since it's a relatively easy battle, he won't use magic in order to really test the army rather than just the efficiency of fire magic. Like this battle could probably be won with fire magic and skavenslaves, and skavenslaves are not a doomstack.

  • @anonymous_coward
    @anonymous_coward 3 года назад

    Considering how corsair handbow spam is only viable with Lokhir I think you should have made full use of his abilities including the black ark bombardments. Realistically in a campaign by the time you are pushing inland beyond the range of your black ark you will probably be recruiting a second army with a lord that doesn't buff corsairs. I however do agree with the choice to not make use of fire magic.
    There is also an issue I have with the army setup which is that all of the ground units have the stalker ability. You need at least one non stalker ground unit to act as bait. Having one unit of dread spears would have resulted in that unit being wiped out but would have made the first battle go more smoothly.

  • @shorewall
    @shorewall 3 года назад

    Two battles is correct. You tend to rate the Doomstack holistically, including heroes, magic, items. In a real battle, one would use all aspects of the army to win. But people also want to see how certain isolated units do as a doomstack.
    I think people have two ideas of doomstack. One is the army as a whole. And the other is a stack of certain units to cheese the system. Whether you should do two battles depends on if the doomstack fits both criteria, and should be judged both ways.
