    Delpo was really great player…. Only injuries made hard for him to improve. But still a grand slam winner. Great delpo. Well done.

    It’s such a shame Delpo’s body betrayed him. I think he would have been a consistent contender for major titles for at least ten years. He probably would have won at least four or five.

    we always thought that the backhand was Delpo's weakness and we never appreciated how consistent it was

    Delpo had an absolute joke of a backhand before his surgeries. This thing was a sledgehammer. The semi final against Nadal in '09 is prove of that. I'm convinced that without his surgeries he would have been among the big players, Nadal, Federer and Djokovic. Especially for Nadal I think he would have been a match-up nightmare with healthy wrists.

      Early Del Potro is like Djok but with extreme firepower on both sides
      Nadals slow bouncy ground strokes would rarely go unpunished

    Para Nadal era imposible ganarle a del Potro esa noche, delpo estába a un nivel muy alto . Lastima que en la final no jugó bien pero es una leyenda entre los 30 mejores tenísta de historia por su efectividad . Tuvo tantas lesiones que cuando volvía les ganaba a Federer Nadal djocovic. Es el único jugador sin ser nro1 que ganó a más veces a los nro del mundo .

      Totalmente de acuerdo! Ni siquiera hoy día hay un jugador estable que podría hacer frente a Djokovic o Nadal (no jugando por lesiones). Se merecía ganar al menos 2 Grands Slam más por las finales fallidas.

    Rafa had an amazing 2018, 5 titles from the 7 tournaments he completed. His level was arguably higher than in 2017.
    On the other hand, got injured at AO, and had his knee flare up on him during the US Open, before tearing his abdomen in Paris-Bercy.

    Delpo is a great talent and amazing player. Ita some what unfortunate that some players had to play in a era that had Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray. These 4 players kade it nearly impossinle for anyone to win a grandslam between 2004 to 2020....

      True, difficult era for excellent players like Stan, Murray etc…. However, Delpo would have won many grand slams if he didn’t have the wrist injuries as he was a matchup nightmare for those guys. I think he would have won 7-8, but we will never know unfortunately.

    Simple why Nadal retired. He wanted to give Del Potro some rest, so that Del Potro could beat Djokovic in the final. Nadal did the same in 2022 Wimbledon by giving a walkover to Kyrgios in the semifinal so that Kyrgios could be fresh enough to beat Djokovic in the final. Didn't work though. Djokovic ended up winning both.

      He was completely drained from the marathon against Thiem which ended at dawn previous day. Us open schedules have been a little inconsistent. Nothing to do with Djokovic
