How I do my interiors: Bdoubleo100: I don't. End of video. Aside from the Hermitcraft joke, this insight is actually really useful, since there are many people (including me) who just CAN'T do interiors, like, just don't know what to do. That's actually a reason why I always why away from having a medieval/village base and go for a Futuristic base.
interiors are hard, you can study up by looking at older architecture, even as recent as the 80s and 90s had some weird interiors for households across america, however, cathedrals and such are much more interesting, no?
I suck at building, both exteriors and interiors. But a few weeks ago I decided to improve, and I built some good looking buildings. The interior sucked though, so this video is very helpful.

I love seeing your thought process going through the decoration process and hopes it'll help me through my project. Thank you so much!!
This is so helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it all. I struggle heavily with interiors but I like the methodical way of chopping a build into sections and then focusing on a single section at a time. The winding staircase tutorial was also very helpful as I just mess up stairs so easily and I really like all the winding paths you show off in your hc builds.
Since season 7 I began watching more Hermits. When I found you, I was immediately excited for what else you had to offer in the season. You are my favorite Hermit now!!
I love how Bdubs has come to synthesize nearly a decade of youtube into these recent big-picture tutorials. It's been a long time since "This is John..."
I remember one thing I learned from Etho about 9 or 10 years ago. To paraphrase it, "Never be afraid to use blocks that aren't normally used for structural materials" In that case, it was clay. I think that was the start of Etho's "Von Sway". Interiors were one of my favorite things to do back in the day before I got a bit burnt out on vanilla (then played modded for about 5 years before getting back into 1.13.). I had this "large" build (I think it was 17x51 blocks in size - large for Minecraft Alpha, but the layout is actually similar to Grian's "Dream Mansion") that I made back in Alpha. Interiors were actually more difficult then, especially the library, but I did use ceiling borders and painting on dirt walls (wasn't afraid of using dirt for texture, thanks to Etho! I needed a brown texture). I remember debating with myself about using double-thick walls and floors (7 block tall rooms) - ultimately, only the floors were double thick, but I can see where double-thick walls are good for castles, or other medieval buildings. Now with 1.16, and all of the new blocks since 1.13, I'm kinda getting the itch to make a new version of it. Now I just need to find a structure mod to copy things from one save to another.
Dude I learned so much and now all my buildings are so insane! The interiors are amazing!!!! I’m going to use these tips forever :D Thanks so much love the vids!

Another tip for ceilings: if you make the base level of the ceiling a top placed half slab. That way you can still use slabs for the trim or beam effect, but it won’t take any more space (like if you want to keep the trim but have furniture that reaches the ceiling like a bookshelf. This also allows you to use upside down stairs to add even more detail to the ceiling as the top half will look like the normal ceiling but the bottom will be on the trim layer but only half as thick

Medieval houses, especially those belonging to commoners, rarely had internal divisions. They typically only had one or two big rooms. If there were any room divisions at all, it was the kitchen that was separate from the rest, but there was no living room, or sitting room. It was not at all unusual for ten people to sleep in the same room. A cellar or an attic might be used as storage. Only big houses, like castles and mansions had complex interiors, and even there, the living space was often confined to one big room. The internal divisions were mostly a consequence of the building having multiple functions other than just being a residence for a nobleman and his family and servants.
@@natebit7167 or could take both these into account and like Bdubs said for how he stored wood, maybe have an area outside that was designated more for gathering. Can do both! That's the plus side to Minecraft! tons of possibilities
1. It doesn't matter if it's in a game 2. He said multiple times that he's not going for a medieval style anyway 3. Did not know that Edit: oh I now see that he did say he is going for a medieval theme
A medieval theme is different from a medieval setting. A medieval setting would preferably require full historical accuracy, but all he was implying is that the general block pallet, coloration, and over arching feel was similar to what would be commonly associated with the medieval style. Not to mention that in that time period it wasn’t completely black and white, rich and poor. There were many people with sectioned houses whom were not considered rich.
Thank you so much, this is going to improve how I do my interiors by leaps and bounds. I would love to see a video of how you do this same thing for the basic survival interior requirements (enchanting room, furnace room, large storage area, and so on).
This helped me so much i always struggle on building interiors i always just place the basic: crafting table, furnace, chest and bed but this has helped me make my interior look a lot better and not so much you know basic

Hey Bdubs just wanna say thank you for all the amazing content you make. I found your channel about a year ago and you have quickly become my favourite Minecraft RUclipsr. Your videos are amazing from the music to the editing to the amazing builds you somehow manage to make with all sorts of blocks. In just the year I've been watching you I've learnt so many building tips and you have made me a better builder. You are also really funny and I love seeing your antics on hermitcraft. You inspired me to create my own channel where I make let's play videos in my survival world like building with bdoubleo. You were the first RUclipsr I ever supported with patreon and I'm so glad I did because you put so much work into that resource pack. You are also so a genuine nice guy and I love watching your vids because I can just forget about the bad day I've had or whatever and they make me smile. Keep up the epic content and stay safe! 😁👍
I’ve always had trouble making my interiors look natural. This video helped a lot. I built a house a while ago that looks really cool on the outside but I’ve been dreading decorating the inside. Now I think I know what I’m gonna do :))
I've been really getting into more detail on my builds and interiors. This video is a big help, I've built one house in survival series so far on my channel and pretty happy with it. You've given me some great ideas, thanks Bdubs!
Ive been living in a hole in a mountain for almost a year in my survival lets play. this is what ive been waiting for. thanks for the amazing inspiration! :D
I'm watching this a little late but I feel it needs a whole series honestly. You have so much talent and a very diverse thought process. That's something a person of your magnificence cannot contain in a 20 minute video. Love the videos man!
One of the best if not THE best, educational, inspirational, simply interior tips and tricks i have ever seen! Keep up with the good content (for you that's just any video).
For the love of God within us all I know this was 2 yrs ago…but I’m so dang happy. I have FINALLY found a Minecraft build vid that helps greatly for me. Cause I always had trouble with interior and exterior since most tutorials just skip the process. This helped me so good. Thank you for making this 😭🙏🏾!
THANK YOU... I've been exploring building and taking a break from Redstone... I tried terra forming and I got the hang of it but I tried exteriors and interiors and I struggle
“Here’s a bedroom, where I can go SHRWEEP.” Bdubs you’re the best. I’m not much of a builder, but I love watching your vids for your personality and little bits. I also loved “like-a so” back in the day.
Thank you so much for this video :) Lately I have been trying to improve my interiors and your advices are really good, "make 2-thick walls/ceiling" is my mantra now.
Thank you for the inspiration! My builds are very, very.... practical. I've been putting in essentials and then kinda fiddling round the edges to try to make it look nice... occasionally it works but more often than not, it's very dull! Next project, I'm going to just prioritise the design a bit higher.
I like how this is different from most building videos where people are more explicit about their thinking process and instead just show small examples that leave it up to you to implement in your builds which - most of the time doesn’t turn out the best. Building his not about the blocks. It’s about your imagination.

Thanks for this, Bdubs. Interiors are the one thing in this game that still give me trouble, especially small scale interiors. This helps a lot.

I'm still super new to minecraft and having these detail oriented videos about how to actually fill a space is soooo helpful!!!
Watching this, I was like, "Oh, *THAT'S* why my builds tend to look empty inside!"
Ive been living in a hole in a mountain for almost a year in my survival lets play. this is what ive been waiting for. thanks for the amazing inspiration! :D
You play regular on it
Also, perhaps you should do a “How I do my Exteriors” video 😂
He already did it's his tutorial on his hermitcraft starter house
He did...
@@rudalph5923 can you please tell me more specifically like, the season and the episode....?
@@gekyg4mer the video is literally called "my hermitcraft starter house tutorial" how lazy can you be?
@@editazilinskyte3681 🙄😐
I'm watching this a little late but I feel it needs a whole series honestly. You have so much talent and a very diverse thought process. That's something a person of your magnificence cannot contain in a 20 minute video. Love the videos man!
My interiors are all the same.... empty. Literally, every house is just empty. Or is full of chest monsters
Same lol
Or regular monsters
I tend to make the above ground area nice and underground a completely different beast
Mine full of redstone
One of the best if not THE best, educational, inspirational, simply interior tips and tricks i have ever seen! Keep up with the good content (for you that's just any video).
I didn’t know I wanted this as much as I did
For the love of God within us all I know this was 2 yrs ago…but I’m so dang happy. I have FINALLY found a Minecraft build vid that helps greatly for me. Cause I always had trouble with interior and exterior since most tutorials just skip the process.
This helped me so good. Thank you for making this 😭🙏🏾!
Me: makes many barrels as a furniture
My village: *Fishing Time*
6:30 Such a small detail like that tree I had no idea I would like it so much. I think I found my new go-to
Thank you bdubs this helped alot about my thought prosess while doing interior
The way you encorporate greenery into your builds (which is really hard to do in minecraft!) Is really amazing!
The way you say sleep adds a smile to my face everytime XD
I just wanted to say thank you Bdubs. Dashline was somehow on my computer and I didn’t know what it was. But know, I know it’s safe
Bdubs voice is so soothing he's like the Bob Ross of Minecraft
Great video! Thank you so much, i was really in need of this right now! Just finished a village and i really wasn’t motivated to do interriors
I like how calm he explains how he does interiors. He's like Bob Ross in minecraft...
I love these tutorials, he doesn't just do the puzzle for you but gives you the pieces to put together yourself in your own way
Brilliant, thank you so much, very helpful
Thank you so much for this video :) Lately I have been trying to improve my interiors and your advices are really good, "make 2-thick walls/ceiling" is my mantra now.
Bdubs:
Everyone else: *WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN!!!**
I never even considered doing 2 blocks wide walls. This video has ben super helpfull to me. Thanks, Bdubs!
Who else wants to see an outside decorating video? By that I mean floral\trees.
Yardscaping with bdubs!
Thank you for showing us that, I usually just see tips and tricks for furniture, but not how to use it in a build. That was really Helpful.
Hey are you doing alright you look kinda tired or stressed, and I just don't want you to get like burnt out or anything, so I hope you're doing well.
Ya his eyes were red like he was crying but he could be tired or burned out
@@the_sky_is_blue_and_so_am_I i don't see it??
I didn’t think it was that bad. 😑
@@the_sky_is_blue_and_so_am_I They don't look red at all, I don't know what you mean. I think you guys are just reading into things too much.
Thank you for the inspiration! My builds are very, very.... practical. I've been putting in essentials and then kinda fiddling round the edges to try to make it look nice... occasionally it works but more often than not, it's very dull! Next project, I'm going to just prioritise the design a bit higher.
Imagine if ethos next hiding spot for the end rod is in this world 🥴🤣🤣🤣
I like how this is different from most building videos where people are more explicit about their thinking process and instead just show small examples that leave it up to you to implement in your builds which - most of the time doesn’t turn out the best. Building his not about the blocks. It’s about your imagination.
