I'm currently playing in a server with a few friends. I was pretty new and went all into lucky looter. When a veteran friend and I were raiding a shotgun messiah factory he was absolutely raving about how I was finding schematics, mods and weapons in the trash alone. Made me feel good

    • @chrishubbard64

Yeah nothing more obnoxious than looting like 50 book loots and getting paper from like 40 of them. Good to know that eyecandy wont really help there. I was so fricking upset when that happened. I mean, I dont expect it to be even 50% books and schematics, but come on!

  • @Sterl500
    @Sterl500 3 года назад +3

Subbed. Hope to see more like this. Honestly the lower levels of Lucky Looter could be tweaked for early game stuff. Like changing from a percentage of loot bonus to finding loot in containers you wouldn't normally find them in. Like specific books in cupboards, or toolboxes. Maybe you could find ammo you use often in piles of garbage. Stuff that would change the early game into something that helps you into the mid game before you have access to a bunch of dukes. I get that we already have a book series to help with this sort of thing, but it would be a nice QoL change for you to drop a point into LL and start finding more value in overlooked containers.

    • @GunsNerdsandSteel

For noobs: Yes, it is worth it but not on your first few days. Get your other perks up that help you progress into getting to iron/minibike first, set up a base and then when you start getting into higher levels (20-30+) try lucky looter!
That's from my experience. It's all about getting that auger :)

    Wow. Amazing video!
    Honestly this changes everything.
I would rather have a purple wrench than a gray ratchet...
Same can be Said about all tiers...
I actually kind of noticed this.
On my perception builds, I would often find higher tier, lower quality items. Problem: unless you have the stamina/mods/perks, mining with a gray steel tool is less effective than mining with a purple iron tool...
So i almost never got a purple item, as i would have a higher tier item instead. Honestly, that is a handicap, as a purple shotgun with 4 mods is better than the orange auto shotgun i was getting instead...
    Great video.

I came to the same conclusion after many hours of play. Leave it at level 3 until game stage 55 then grind it hard with glasses and eye kandy on some nice POI's
the smaller Shotgun Messiahs POI's for example. The overall progression in the game is excellent with 64 hordes. You should do an analysis of loot bag drops on horde night.
It seems that direct kills have a better chance of loot drops, than counter measure kills, or molotovs, or let's say that each kill device must have some impact on loot drops
from horde night z's. My empathy for the time and frustration it must have taken to go through all of this analysis.

Your video reminds me of how I got started watching Vedui42. He would perform some testing in some of his sandbox worlds, but I do not recall him going into such depth. You laid out your initial setup. You explained your process. You analysed your results. It is the perfect application of the scientific method. In some ways, you did what I was hoping he would do by overlaying graphs after the fact during his post production.
Anecdotally, JaWoodle has noticed some of the same things during his different series, but he never went to this extreme with the verification.
I was mulling this over today, when I watched a new episode by JaWoodle. Is there a database available with a breakdown of all the blocks that are used in the construction and the layout of a POI? Now, I am not saying that we need to know whether something is wooden, concrete, or metal. What I am suggesting is something like the number of pallets of cobble stone, cement mix, and stone; the number of 'potentially' lootable bookshelves, cabinets, and garbage piles; the number and variety of different types of loot chest. Since I cannot play the game, it would be difficult for me to perform this type of analysis. (My laptop cannot support even the lowest graphic settings.)
I might take it further by 'slicing' the building apart and photographing it from above. I would remove the roof and every floor, one at a time, until the basement or underground bunker is reached. Depending on the number of POIs that are currently available in vanilla (I would exclude mods for the moment), it would take a long time to do.
I might need to subscribe to this channel, if the rest of the content is up to this level of detail. Well done.

Thank you for taking the time to write this, I have a couple of other videos that are similar in essence to this one, most notably the horde night explained and the bartering system tutorial. I'm not sure if it's possible to quantify the number of materials per POI but I will look into this.

I don't think you tested buried supplies (buried treasure quest), etc. Maybe you can test some of this again with eye kandy, +5 goggles and maximum lucky looter for maximum luck?
The faster looting is nice with a few points in lucky looter, if anything. It's unfortunate luck is virtually useless at early and even mid game.
Good video. It needed to be done. Been wondering about this for awhile now. Thanks.

@@chrishubbard64 Not sure what "that" is. Which skill? Treasure Hunter only increases the abundance/quantity of the loot.
For the extra luck, we could just extrapolate out because it's essentially a multiplier of gamestage. But there were a couple of things I was curious about he didn't seem to test in this video. There's the buried supplies from jobs you get from a trader, and there's buried treasure from treasure maps.

I think this game is really generous with loot and items, if you add up everything
    - Lucky Looting skill, the video already gave us inside into this!
-Eye Candy (Food), Can be bought at the vending machines and also buffes for like 4 min. the looting stat.
-Looting goggles, at max rate give you a +5% loot bonus!
-Lucky Looting Book series, you find more dukes, medicin, ammo, resources, etc and the 8th extra ability is that enemys
have a higher chance of dropping a loot bag.
When I play the game I instantly from start on lvl. Lucky Looting to max. and then I do other skills.

The biggest difference that I perceive Lucky Looter is doing is not what I find but where I find it. Without any points in it I'm hard to find schematics in other places than bookshelves, high quality boxes and bags, etc. But with 2-3 points in Lucky Looter I start finding them in trashcans and other low quality places.

The faster looting is interesting, but the bonus from lucky looter is abysmally bad. Take it for faster looting only.
Use looting goggles and eye candy because they don't cost points, but if you're taking lucky looter for 'better' loot, you're wasting points.
If you want better stuff, like REALLY better stuff, books, guns, armor, turrets, ammo, crucibles, etc. take Better Barter.
With Better Barter (plus the double-secret-stash trick using nerdy glasses at BB3+), and some cleverness in how you sell items, you'll have infinite dukes and gear FAR beyond your GS.

  • @Wyr3d
    @Wyr3d Год назад

I beleive this all kinda changed with A20 and the "loot stage" that was added, but iunno if it has done so again, or been tweaked for A21, so I did a quick test myself by backing up my save file prior to opening an air drop, since air drop loots can be relatively predictable (based on bundle type).
GIven that most bundles (farm, book, mods) would likely be less helpful of reaching any conclusion due to their content, I cycled through until I got the machine gun bundle to drop with Lucky Looter 0, 1 and 2. (I only had 2 points to spent available at the time) with the contents of each pretty much being the same (1 mag bundle, 1 machine gun bundle, 80 ammo, either some food or water,) except for the following:
At LL0 (loot stage 28) - the Pipe Machine Gun was Tier 3.
    At LL1 (loot stage 30) - n/a
At LL2 (loot stage 31) - the Pipe Machine Gun was Tier 5, the food was slightly higher tier.
Unfortunately, out of the 100 or so attempts, I never got the machine gun bundle to drop on LL1. I am not sure whether this somehow boosted the preference for other bundles (since I did see a lot more of specific tool drops at LL1) or whether I was just (ironically) unlucky - and I do not have the kind of patience required to keep going indefinately until the machine gun bundle would finally drop.
However, I did notice that for the other drops which included weapon, or tools the quality of those also increased, so chances are the LL1 machine gun would have been a Teir 4. I also checked the armor bundle drop, but there was no change between Lucky Looter ranks, they were alwasy tier 3.
It would be interesting to see the results of a much larger scale test, with all 5 tiers.

I'll hesitate to say lucky looter is less valuable early game, but only on the grounds of getting those points locked in early, when level ups are a dime a dozen and you can spare a couple points, cause you're gonna get a couple more an hour down the road. Burning my first 4 points from the intro quests and doing that? maybe not, cause other perks are more immediately useful. As I'm leveling up more and getting guns and ammo? yeah, for sure, cause now I have a pistol and a shotgun and can more easily go on a loot run where those looter perks are immediately useful. Either way, fantastic analysis.

Yeah this seems to more or less match up with other channels researching this. There are really only two or three points where you might notice a benefit, and thats when it boosts you to the next tier and at end game when it gets you higher quality end game loot. So its briefly useful for those in between tiers levels then useful again after you are max tier and want better quality loot. I guess I wont bother spending points on it till I have most of the important stuff already covered. Maybe even take it into account when its time to use fergittin elixir to readjust my point distribution. After all, the points you take to make leveling up easier might not always be the points you want end game. As an example, you might not want the points to unlock vehicle schematics if you already have all of them built and in storage. Or maybe you didnt want to put points into making hunting easier now that you have so much food its overflowing the storage crate. Or maybe you decided that maxxing out pack mule wasnt such a good idea after all. :p

  • @omar7311

There is another point that speaks for lucky looter that is kinda hidden.
If you play in a group, you can successfully argue that you need to be one to open important loot sources due to your skill.
This is good if you 1) Want to get better loot for yourself (Shame on you) and if you 2) Are good with logistics and know what to pick and what to leave, as well as looking for specific stuff for your friends.
Tho it puts you into the situation that you always kinda have to come with them if they go for quests ect.
Lucky Looter and high int skills goes well for those reasons.

  • @insanityplea5502
    @insanityplea5502 3 года назад

Seems like if you have a large enough group playing together, having a Lucky Looter early-mid game might not be bad just due to sheer volume of things they can open. All they would need to do is drop some boxes in a 'safe' no respawn point or off whatever soon to respawn point then while everyone else is cleaning the place, they just faceroll through looting everything, store it in the 'safe' boxes and then people can help ferry the loot home when all is said and done.
On the same note, said person could also take pack mule perks early game for quicker transport of loot until pocket mods are up to snuff. Id assume (as iv never played with a group or large group) that getting a few respec pots wouldnt be too big to drop the pack points (though those are under strength compared to the perception for looter)

Thanks for all the hard work. Seems like the perk is worth only really for faster looting or to get to the next tier, an effect of perhaps dubious value since when you only just reach a tier, the quality of items are garbage. The lack of impact early game is really important since that's when you're hurting for skillpoints most. Cheers for the epic deep dive.

Considering the skill is % based, it really is a no brainer that it isn't worth while until higher game stage. The real question is since it sees the most effective use at later gamestage is it worth it even then?
At higher game stage you are higher level which means it takes longer to level up to get those points. Also at late game, if you are looting (in terms of what lucky looter effects) then chances are you are really just looking for quality 6 items with good stats, because it isn't hard to just craft the quality 5 ones a few times to get good stat rolls. So I think the real question is, how much of and effect does it have on getting more quality 6 items versus anything else?
Especially when you consider that eye kandy already acts essentially like a temporary lvl 2 lucky looter.

  • @MrTimZoR1337

Hopefully the loot system will be less linear in A20. They should add a small chance to get a "lucky find" that gives you an item of the next item tier. The "lucky find" could be upgraded with the lucky looter perk to make it more worth spending points in the early game.

GREAT!! video, do you know if its still valid data in A20?
Also, how does loot work in COOP?
is the contents determined when the lootable object is spawned in?
Or is it when it is opened and contents revealed? meaning the player with the highest GS should do all the looting?

  • @Stayoffhereable

See I can vouch for the game being abit random. Certain times I immediately dump my first 3 perk points into lucky looter and perception. Sometimes I'll get an auger on like day 4 with a bike chassis schem and a workbench schem. Other times I won't dump points into it at all and go strictly melee damage and I'll still get late game schems like the rachet or a pump shotgun. I guess it all depends on how generous the RNG is feeling that day

I'd say Lucky Looter is worth it if you get a blueprint for repair kits early on. Repair kits are generally cheap to make and when used on those low quality rare items, the items can go for several hundred to over a thousand in ducats.

Many thanks for so much work. I always wanted to know that.
I played 7DtD a lot and only the rewards from the trader quest are good (i think you can get lv 6 weapons as a reward but i am not 100 % sure :). I highly recommend to put perks into that
To loot a level 6 weapon you must have a lot of luck. But i dont like that a good lv 5 weapon can make more damage then a bad level 6.
I was also disappointed about the weapons you can buy at the trader and the perks about that.
