- Soft shell crabs are a rare delicacy that are also perfect for fishing bait. Using a standard hard shell crab is wasteful because you can't use the hard shell. With the soft shell crab you can use every bit of it as fishing bait! We are surf fishing using soft shell crabs, and BOY DO THEY WORK! Next time you can get your hands on some, be sure to buy one or two extra for your fishing.

Why be ashamed? There are lots of soft shell crabs in the water that are fair game. I'd be embarrassed to pay market price, but if you catch some busters and wait for them to shed, all's good.

We used to use dead soft crabs for bait or ones that got attacked in the sluff box and torn up by peelers, but they are way too delicious (and expensive) to waste as bait.

The way I look at it is if you can fill your freezer with better quality meat by using softshell crabs, more power to you!!!
We call em peeler crab 🦀 in the UK and its arguably the best bait you can use I don't know any fish that would turn down a juicy soft crab. Wow $8 dollars per crab but its about £3.50 for peeler in the UK atm.

Here in the UK we collect molting crab and soft crab there are so many fish that eat them it is a highly rated bait people pay in US about 2dollars a crab

I watched land shark 🦈 channel catch and cook drum fish and after seeing the noodle worms that came out of it when he filleted the fish 🐟 I was wretching at the thought of just seeing them let alone eating them and he said almost all of them have worms. I know alot of fish do but never seen them size of a finger ewe.

Is one allowed to use parts of a small shark as bait?
Generally no. The exception being a shark you legally caught and could harvest, but generally have to be decent size. The other option is the dogfish sometimes called sandsharks in Jersey. They are a nuisance trash fish that nobody cares about, surf fisherman kill them just to not catch them again. Always check local regs of course

Personally I leave soft crabs alone just me but I wouldn't like someone harvesting me while I change my clothes I like to find a balance with some harmony

You should not release a fished pompano. It will die. Pompano dies if you release it after it caught on a hook. Dont know why. But it happens in a fishery range in my country.😊
Theres law in their country that undersized fish of their kind should be release and theres a limit depending on the fish.
