Nice question. Probably because it is considered a low-level kata. Usually they prefer to start with Enpi or Jion.
I started training in a strict traditional style in the 70’s, nobody stopped that long between movements and we wore what ever belts we earned! Just wanted to tell you all that. It all change during the 90’s. A group of so called traditionalist changed the tradition. Look at videos of Soke Teruo Hayashi or Sensei Mario Hogana. The didn’t do Kata like modern AAU
Such a bullshit, you have to check Hayashi's viedos yourself :) No speed, no reaction in movements, they're so smooth that you can hit a kitten at most. But he also stops for some time in between movements. Now look at today's kata - the movements are quick and reactive as if you're fighting.
So, what's better - the imaginary "old style" you are talking about or the new one with the help of which you can at least learn how to hit an opponent?
I'm an Italian girl who's learning karate and this is pure inspiration! I do Shotokan so it's a bit different but I still recognize the moves! Oss!

Not to be rude but shotokan stylist usually think that their stuff is the best. That may be a reason why they don't perform it in competitions. Another reason could be hidden techniques. The style of karate that I train in has some katas where there are techniques that we hide by performing a different strike or something along those lines. Over all I did like how they performed the kata. Being in a different style though, we have an extra pivot in the kata.

AnticsDesigns I do shotokan as well because I unfortunately need it for my brown and white belt. shotokan is faster paced I believe

Every Sensei and Dojo teaches a kata in a different way. Your Bassi-Dai may not be the exact style of Bassi-Dai that they do, but it is all pretty much the same idea.
