I really love my Mk1. Only issue I have on occasion is in dive mode it doesn’t always flip to the compass and back by rolling my arm or tapping the screen. Eagerly awaiting Mk2.
Being in the Philippines and starting a quasi travel vlog about the islands, I do take a lot of scuba trips around here(why wouldnt you-the diving is amazing). If and when the new MarkII comes out I will definetely be getting one. The GPS feature alone will turn the DC into a daily driver for many of my other adventures, and the heartrate and other monitors will go nicely for many of the activities Ive got planned for 2021. Bring it on. (BTW- retired military, we used garmin almost extensively...I trust them but Im bias towards them because of the trust to them).
What would also be amazing would be if shearwater integrated smart features like GPS messaging similar to the Garmin... would 100% get that over the Garmin... but will definitely get the mark 2 and wear as a backup to my Perdix AÍ... good to see you here, love your reviews?
Hi Mark. Just recently found out about Simply Scuba which was terrible news; but very glad to have found your site and happy to see your well-done reviews, info sessions, and comic relief.
Holy crap Garmin! We’ve been waiting for this Mk2 for a while now... I need to replace my aging Galileo Sol and I’m pretty sure my transmitter is on its last leg... so hurry up please!!
Yeah, my schedule eased up and I had some more time to play with the camera and setup so it looks more natural. It's also tricky to pull focus on yourself when you're stood behind the camera, the auto-focus on my camera is a bit dumb...
I have the mk1 titanium and I love the watch. The fact that this is the only watch that I can use for al my sports AND diving activities is perfect for me. i have seen some bugs but havent seen one under water (as a safety factor that is very important for me). Ofcourse I will sell this watch for the mk2 but not if the only upgrade is the air sensor as i dont use sensors (and dont want to use them) So I keep my eyes open!
Definitely, I imagine the hardware isn't there in the MK1 though. Suunto have done something similar in the past, they put hardware inside the EON Steel that had no function until they released new software months after launch...
Bought a Garmin Fenix 6 and love it. Assuming the Mk2 will be based on this I'll be changing to that and can sell all other watches as this will cover all bases.
Hi Mark, thanx for the good news. I am glad with my descent but if there is coming up the mkII with solar and air integrated, i would buy it. Happy diving and greetings from Germany
I just read on Reddit that it will be released half October. No idea how reliable that is though. www.reddit.com/r/scuba/comments/ftgt53/garmin_descent_mk2/?sort=new
This video review was posted August 5th 2020. Today is September 30th 2020 and I can confirm that Garmin MK2i is coming out October 21st 2020 and yes, it will have air integration. The T1 Garmin transmitter uses patented Sonar tech which I am told is capable of pairing the MK2i Descent Dive computer with its T1 transmitter using sonar signal, reaching up to 30 ft apart -something simply unthinkable until today. The MK2i comes with 20% larger screen but it fits in the same housing as its predecessor the MK1. The battery of the MK2i is longer lasting too - I was told it lasts up to 30 days per charge on watch mode vs. the MK1 battery which lasts 20 days per charge on watch mode. The MK1 smoked the competition out of the water in 2017 (no pun intended) with its app interphase, bluetooth technology, topo mapping for surface applications (the only dive computer that ever offered such feature) and now the MK2i offers everything the MK1 offers plus air integration, a larger screen, larger numbers, longer battery charge life and hands down the coolest and most professional interphase with your smartphone that exists in the SCUBA market. Simply put: no, the MK2i didn't come in the SCUBA market to compete with the big dogs of SCUBA diving computers - it came to own the market as this dive computer is second to none - a job superbly well done by our Kansas-based Garmin fellows. I attended a Garmin dealer Zoom meet recently and let me tell you, I was already impressed with the MK1 Descent, but what I saw makes the MK1 Descent pale in comparison to the MK2i features. FYI Garmin will sunset the MK1 Descent in November. They plan to replace it with the version of the new product simply called "MK2" (without air integration) whereas the new product that does have air integration is called "MK2i". Altogether the MK2i Descent is by far and I mean light years ahead of its time. And wait until you see the retail price for the MK2i - Garmin has outdone itself again and I for one am a fan. The above is an honest review - Garmin pays me nothing to write my observations of their products- from a dive center owner located in California.
Thanks for the update. I saw and posted the information Sept. 29th hoping that someone would post more information. I am getting one as soon as it comes out. Built up points on a card and will be able to walk in and walk out without laying out any cash. Thanks for the update.
No reason, there are tonnes of brands I haven't had a chance to talk about yet. Ursuit are a fine brand, my drysuit is pretty much an Ursuit, just with a different badge...
I think it was just called the 'Ursuit Kevlar', I think the Stealth 2.0 has a few upgrades on it now with improved cut. But you'll see the similarities in the fabric and design compared to the Kevlar Argonaut 1.0

Hey Mark, loving the channel. Would be great to get your take on RAID vs. Padi etc. A video on the pros and cons perhaps? I know you did one with SS on "why some divers don't like PADI" but would be interesting if you went into more detail on the alternatives to PADI.

I wouldn't compare the two. One is a premium divecomputer, and the other is just an attempt from shearwater to cram the perdix into a watch-sized device. ;)
It just came out for sale. check it out on Garmin website...
Its advertised for sale in New Zealand Hunting and Fishing Magazine page 107. Advertised as Descent Mk 2i

So glad you decided to keep making videos. You've helped my scuba career so much. Thank you!
The wait is over :) Finally Descent Mk2 and Mk2i are out :)
I hope the next one has the tide software and more freediving options.

Hey Mark! Thanks for the news!
Did you change camera or settings/post production to make this video?
I think its the color grading its a bit more blue ish with less white
Ben In my opinion it’s better then previous videos where everything looked kind of blurry/foggy.
It’s a different angle as well. Zoomed in a bit.
