I think this is the weakest episode of this season. Possibly of the entire show. Generally season 2 is regarded as the best one, and there is a lot of debate among fans whether season 1 or 3 are the worst. It really depends on taste, I love season 3 but especially the first half definitely leans more into the arthouse aesthetics and metaphorical speeches than the rest of the show. Not everyone's favourite. But I don't think there is a lot of debate about this episode, it is definitely not the best one.
An interesting tidbit that a lot of people don't pick up on the first viewing is that the third place that was set at Hannibal's breakfast for dinner table with Abigail was intended to be for Will. But then Will got called out of town for the case, leaving the seat open when Alana dropped by. The family that Hannibal wanted and meant for Abigail to see was himself and Will.
Thank you for the reaction!! I think most of the cases are just elements to further explore Will and Hannibal's relationship and to discover something new about the characters, as individuals. Such as the second episode; the killer there was looking for connections and Will was trying or wanted to connect with Abigail. And by the end of this episode, everyone was around their respective families. (Will and his dogs, Jack and his wife, etc) That's what some cases only last one episode or may even feel "incomplete", but this is intentional, to build up the plot :)
This episode didn't air on network t.v. in America on release; they released it online. There was a shooting with a young antagonist at the time, so they cancelled the airing.
Unfortunately just like episode 2 we don't got too much time to draw out some of these cases, it's the effect they have on Will and Hannibal and the rest of the cast that progresses the story 😅
This episode was difficult, when it first aired they actually had to edit it and make a version without the family murder (ironically) because of societal situation at the time... So I wouldn't be suprised if the final edit was also redone.

Yes! This is it exactly. Especially in Season 1. Everything that happens is built around the Hannibal and Will dynamic. Good insight!

Mads gives such a great performance in this series, easily one of his greatest roles
