2017 VW Jetta SE Service Reset Oil Change Reminder
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 сен 2024
- This is how to reset the maintenance service reminder on a 2017 VW Jetta. In this video, I will reset the oil change reminder; it can show up as OIL or Oil Change Now!
I have also been told that this has worked for the INSPEC indicator on a VW Jetta; please share in the comments if it does.
This is the procedure:
1. Switch the ignition OFF.
2. Press and hold the 0.0/Set button in the instrument cluster on the lower right side of the speedometer.
3 Switch the ignition ON ( not starting the car) and continue to hold the 0.0/Set button.
4. Let go of the 0.0/Set button and press the button on the lower left side of the speed, which is the clock setting button.

Oil changes are one of the most important things you can do for your car. I got over 250 thousand miles on my old VW Jetta.
Hey tattooeddragon8 thanks for watching my video. Oil changes are definitely very important, and the best way to keep track of it is to reset your oil change reminder after you do your oil change, thanks for the input.

@@WheelsTips yes sir I just drove 300 miles and the light came back on so it is a temporary reset.
Thanks for the follow up, are you sure it is the same thing? Does it now say OIL / INSP like in my other video ruclips.net/video/P9FchMHn4CM/видео.html ? INSP is another indicator the car gives at certain mileage which is a bit more of a detailed over and service then the regular OIL indicator, double check with your manual. Or are you actually getting a check engine light? Please share an update thanks.
@@WheelsTips it now shows the oil light and it says please change oil
That is not the same indicator as in the video, your oil light is either red or yellow and not in text. Check your owners manual what that means. This is a service reset indicator, which is time and or mileage based, you are speaking of condition based indicator. Best thing for clarity is check to check your specific owners manual in the index for instrument cluster indicators, this will eventually narrow you down to what your car is telling your. Please share an update thanks.

i just resetted it and it worked i also checked my oil under the hood and everything seems okay it should come up again if i really do need the change right
Hey Taye T. Akinde thanks for watching my video. Short answer to your question is, no. No, as in you should and need to change your oil and filter in accordance with the vehicle manufactures recommendation. The indicator is a time based indicator and does not check your oil quality nor the condition of your oil filter, so the car will not remind you till the next time the service indicator is programmed to display based on time or mileage. You have not checked the filter. Also, as I stated earlier, you should check your records when you last changed your oil filter and oil as it it necessary to change those in mileage/time intervals indicated in your car manual. It is imperative to make sure your oil and oil filter are changed in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
Can you make a video for resetting infotainment & airbag error after jump start ? Please.
Thanks a bunch for watching my video and taking the time to comment. Personally I would Google search, Volkswagen Jetta SRS Airbag Control Module ECU Reset. This will provide options for services that reset the airbag module, they are relatively inexpensive. Please share an update, thanks.
Love it thanks for the info!!!Iy worked!!how can I rid off with the inspection warning light ??can you help me out with that??
Thanks a bunch for watching my video and taking the time to comment. I have heard that the procedure also works for the INSPEC indicator on a VW Jetta. Have you tried the procedure again to see if it will reset the INSPEC? Please share an update, thanks.
After oil and filter was changed yesterday I tried to reset such notification following your instructions. The oil/filter change indicator stopped but now a wrench and the abbr. word "Inspec" comes on when I start the car.
Hey Yari De thanks for watching my video. Have you tried the procedure again to see if it resets? Please get back to me and let me know what you did. The inspect is for an overall inspection which you should do if you are resetting the indicator.

So, do I have to be worried about that warning???
When it showed up in my 2016 jetta, I put it oil but it still showed up.
Hey Patricia Jimenez thanks for watching my video. I recommend you reference your owners manual as to what specifically you reset. The indicator showed for a reason, the best practice is to source your owners manual as to what it specifically your vehicle is Indicating to you. Please share your results.
Great video brother... question. How often is recommended to change the oil and filter on your jetta? ?
Hey Aaron Prudhomme thanks for watching my video. In my opinion it varies from the age of your car, mileage and what model you have. Please share what Jetta you have and mileage that way I can better assist you. Please consider subscribing to my channel it would help me a lot thanks.
Didn’t work for mine. For mine the manual says turn the hazard lights on first, then do the steps you mentioned.

Thank you so much for watching my video and taking the time to comment. Is the message constantly displaying? Did you start the car when turning the ignition? Are all your doors, hood, and trunk closed? Thanks for any update.
@@WheelsTips Hi thanks for replying! So the notice goes off after the car being on for a second, all doors and trunk is closed, and no I didn’t turn the car on when I switched the ignition on. I have a 2015, when I got it changed before they set it to 10,000 miles, when I reset will it go to 10,000 or 3,000 miles till change?
Thanks for watching my video and for the great question. When my VW Jetta service indicator is reset, it resets by 10,000 miles not 3,000. Please share an update, thanks a bunch. I also always reference my owners manual regrading what oil to use, enjoy the car!
What does "oil indicater"means? İs it about oil quality or changing period?
Thanks a bunch for watching and taking the time to comment. Could mean a variety of things depending on the model you have. Basic features usually do not have an oil quality detection system, you may want to check your oil levels and that you are on time with your oil change. Please share an update, thanks.
@@WheelsTips i have 2017 vw jetta 1.4 tsi. "Oil inspec" comes on when i start the car
Have you checked your oil level? ruclips.net/video/uL58kxecnXw/видео.html
Now, instead of my car reminding me to get an oil change every start, it just blinks "inspec".. I tried hitting the left button again. Doesn't make any difference.
Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to leave a comment, greatly appreciated. The reason you have INSPEC displayed is because you are due for a scheduled maintenance service - if you complete the service yourself you can always reset the INSPEC as I show in this video if you have the proper software ruclips.net/video/P9FchMHn4CM/видео.html or try this procedure form a 2014 VW Jetta ruclips.net/video/d2gdcpBiZOE/видео.html no software. Also if you have the inspec popping up. Same process. Just put the hazards on

Hey Brian thanks for watching my video. In my car it still came up at the scheduled time, this reset procedure was an acknowledgment of service and thus it would reset the indicator to show up at the next timed service.

does it really matter like if that comes on are you required to service your car because i liturally hardly drive my car
Hey The LegendZ thanks for watching my video. Depends on a lot of circumstances. The amount of time that has passed, whether you live in a 4 season area, quality of the oil you used before and so on. It is all up to you how you chooses to service your car (unless you are on a lease). At a certain mileage your service manual has outlined, other things need to be replaced. How many miles do you have? Are you the original owner? What type of oil do you use for your oil changes? Please share thanks.
If you have not owned the car since the very beginning you may want to check some serviceable items mentioned in the service manual. Such as your engine air filter, your cabin filter, if you have a sunroof your drain tubes which often get clogged from standing in one place such as under a tree. Take out the dip stick for the oil is it dark and smells or does it look like honey? Lots of things to consider and weigh based upon desire to keep the car for a while along with your finances. Always good to take a look at your service manual to see if there are some basic things you can check, even something like the tire pressure. Pleas share any updates, thanks.
Mine just has the service wrench I have not seen it say oil it tells me how many miles I have left before my next oil change like say for example I have 1300 miles before I have to change my oil but the only thing that comes up is a wrench
Hey Bob G thanks for watching my video. I hope once your 1300 miles were up you used my video to reset your service indicator thanks, again.
ok mine is doing this but the wrench and oil thing goes away after about ten seconds. I just bought the car brand new in November and it doesn't even have 1000 miles on it. aren't you supposed to change the oil every 3000 miles??? do I still need to change the oil?
Hey molly roll thanks for watching my video. Just to make sure what year is your car? Also if your car is new, refer to your owners manual for proper maintenance-scheduling. Please let me know what your owners manual says with regards to oil change frequency and include the year and model of your car, please and thank you.
@@WheelsTips Its a 2018 but when I bought it in January 2020 it had 20 miles on it. I've put another 700 on it since then. I called the dealership and they told me that light came on because it's a year old and it automatically will do that regardless of the mileage. But he told me to take it to Firestone or somewhere and they checked the oil and said it was fine.
Hey molly roll thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, I greatly appreciate it. Many people will gain great insight from your response, thanks again.
i have the 2015 and it just reset to 8000 but I do t want it to show up at all, it just recently popped up
Hey Brittany Hughes thanks for watching my video. Please remember to perform any service that the car is asking for. I believe after you exit out of the menu and turn the car on and off a few times after driving a few trips, it should go away. Please share and update, thanks.

Hey Squirrel Flow thanks for watching my video and for taking the time to leave a comment, greatly appreciated. Glad I could help reset the service indicator on your VW Jetta, enjoy the car.
what exactly does that WRENCH and "OIL" mean? My Jetta is new (8 months) and that symbol came up today and I'm about to take a 900 mile trip tomorrow and I'm very worried. I don't know if it just means like I need to schedule an appt soon like a gentle reminder or like I shouldn't drive my car??
The 'wrench' means that you need to service your car. I am assuming you are at about 8500-9000 miles, the wrench to you may mean that you need and oil change and to check small things which are probably listed in your manual. Primary an oil change. Please let me confirm with your general mileage. You can drive your car just please make sure you have oil ( you can check with dipstick) and that you have coolant in your coolant expansion tank.
If you feel that I have or can help you please consider subscribing, thanks. DO NOT forget to give me your mileage so I can confirm what service you need. CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL AND COOLANT!
mine is new and doing this too. mine doesn't even have 1000 miles on it. what did you end up doing?
@@mollyroll584 I know this is sometime after, just wanted to see if you were able to resolve this, thanks for any update greatly appreciated.

Hey Mohammed Laaouini thanks for watching my video. In my opinion you can only change that if you have the advance display unit. At which point you can access the settings menu which will have that option. Please charge your experience.
I can't turn my 2015 on with my key. I only have the push start. How do i turn the car on without cranking it up while I try to reset? Thanks.
I believe with the button you either press it once WITHOUT your foot on the break to activate the ON position or press it 2 times WITHOUT your foot on the brake. If this video helped you please help me out and subscribe, thanks a lot.

Will this work for the 2014 Jetta?
Hey Avron Bachman thanks for watching my video. It should work as long as you have the same layout of buttons. Give it a try and let me know.
i just got my car from the dealership it didn't say any oil indicator and after a day it started saying it so i called them and they said it shouldn't be saying especially when its last emissions was 12/29/2018 and it passed
Hey Taye T. Akinde thanks for watching my video. Whatever the dealer told you, the dealer told you. First and foremost you passing inspection on 12/29/2018 means nothing in regard to your current oil and oil filter condition. You should check your records when you last changed your oil filter and oil as it it necessary to change those in mileage/time intervals indicated in your car manual. It is imperative to make sure your oil and oil filter are changed in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
Hey Taye T. Akinde you have an oil filter that needs to be serviced regularly. You have not checked it, I implore you to check when you last changed it and if you have no records of that, do yourself a favor and get it changed. Oil filters are vital to the function of your car. Just my opinion.
Hey Taye T. Akinde that is awesome! Great investigative work, happy everything worked out for you.

Hey Breen Saadullah thanks for watching my video. The wrench means that you need to service your vehicle. I recommend checking out our owners manual for specific mileage based service. Please share your experience and what you decide to do.
Hey Breen Saadullah make sure to check what other items to replace and inspect based on your mileage, it maybe a little more than oil change. Please share what you end up doing, thanks.
