i have a bunch of commons, about 30 super rares, a few ultra rares, and like 2 ultimate rares, and 1 ghost rare, and a 2 or 3 gold rare, but i got quite a few from trading.
No, rarity affects prices in yugioh because apart from what the card looks like, it's also literal. There's usually 1 secret rare per box of a regular set (like Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy or Abyss Rising) - and when you factor in the fact that there are 8 secret rares in most of said 'normal' sets, that makes it a 1/8 chance of pulling any particular secret rare card from a whole box of packs. This is naturally going to be worth more than any common, which you should get multiples of in each box
Thanks for using Stardust Dragon as an example, as I actually have the DP version in mint condition. Nice to know that it's worth more than the one you're guaranteed to get in the tin. Awesome video.
Its like a card print defect. Its kind of like a misprint, but with the holographic effect. So your card should be secret rare or super rare, but the holographic effect was just missprinted in production. But missprints are still valuable just because their interesting to see.
The black rose dragon in ghost rare are now extremely expansive because it is oldest card from yugioh 5d's booster pack. U can still buy it at tcgplayer.com if u want just that card.
I got a haunted mine set, and I managed to pull a gold rare utopia and grapha along with a ghost rare barkion I got hyped when I saw the ghost rare man. I mean the rest were commons (and I got zombie support cards yey) but that set isn't bad or well that box isn't bad at all for just $16 I got it for
had to rewatch this because i forgot what starfoil was called. just got a starfoil "Phantom of Chaos" when i ordered it and a complete set of the sacred beast archetype. took me off guard.
My favorite rarity has got to be platinum secret rare. I really like how the platinum border and the secret rare effect on it. The only platinum secret rare card I have, though, is Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Tiger King.
i believe it was starting with galactic overlord, the card format slightly changed, making the card art slightly larger and the rest of the card proportioned to that.
Since the rarity system is such a complicated mess, the rarity I will consider as an equivalent to Mythics (MTG) and Ultra Rares (Pokemon) is the Ultimate Rare. I need to make that distinction so I can organize my collection better, especially when I have an enormous amount of cards from various TCGs.
First trade ever was a secret rare DDS Seiyaryu for a hollow dark magician because the guy said they have the same attack so they are the same, but dark magician is more popular so it will be worth more.
awesome thanks not knowing which is which does hurt a little. i only know that some of my good cards are worth a lot due to looking up the card number and then listings of rarity type. this will help me catalog my collection an determine what exactly i have and what they are worth... with out knowing the rarity i have a number of cards 60$ + one i have with it's rarity known is $130 by its self. woot so when i catalog ill be sure to let you know what my net worth is lol
This is actually a reallt good video. I have a lot of trouble telling the difference between some of the more expensive card rarity and instead of just reading about the differences you actually go over and show how they are different. Also please if you could check out my red falamvell guard card video cause I thought it was a fake card but many vendors that I take it to and all my friends say that it is a real card and it is not a fake
Great video. Thanks. I stopped buying packs right before GX ended so I never got any ghost rares or secret rares. Or if there were any I didn't get a single one.
Since this video is from 2013, here is a list of rarities at the start of 2015: EDIT March 15th, 2017: Updated list. And a question to AznEyes. So could you please explain in more detail what the difference is, since I tend to collect all TCG rarities available, including different releases of the same rarity (like the Ultimate Rare, Gold Rare and Duel Terminal Rare differences). Dude do you know what this rarity is ? www.google.fr/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi69Yz3o9nSAhWJAMAKHeUZCocQjRwIBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mawo-cards.com%2Fprodukte02%2FYu-Gi-Oh%2FEinzelkarten%2FBoosterserien%2FThe-New-Challengers%2F&psig=AFQjCNHpFY3y_PZNVKFK585VqFutWCK0cA&ust=1489693764101916
Umm.. you're currently linking to an entire set (www.mawo-cards.com/produkte02/Yu-Gi-Oh/Einzelkarten/Boosterserien/The-New-Challengers/) instead of a single card. And the rarities of those cards are mentioned below it. For example: NECH-EN000 English | 1st Edition Lancehorhynchus Super Rare_________________________
sorry about that. i was refering to to this card www.mawo-cards.com/produkte02/Yu-Gi-Oh/Einzelkarten/Boosterserien/The-New-Challengers/33636_Dark-Rebellion-Xyz-Dragon
Well, it states Ultimate Rare. As for which one: Based on the pictures of the same card in yugioh.wikia.com (link below) I'm pretty sure it's the Ultimate Rare (4). It seems to have a holofoil card border, and it's released in 2014, which means it's either (3) or (4); and it also looks like the dragon itself isn't holo, only the background is, which means it's a (4). ** yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Card_Gallery:Dark_Rebellion_Xyz_Dragon?file=DarkRebellionXyzDragon-NECH-EN-UtR-1E.png
i had a blue eyes shining dragon straight from the movie and it tore a little bit, and me being a stupid little kid i ripped the whole back off of it. now its lost so I only have memories of my favorite card ever
i dont hate this Video, i found it quite informative.... i felt that you REALY should have taken all the cards out of the Protective sleeves.. trying to see all the shinning while you are rotating them around, and getting constant Glare from the Plastic Sleeve..
What about the different versions of rare? They don't only have Black, White or Silver text, sometimes they have shiny green or red (I have both). Also, Jap Misprints can be worth a bit sometimes (Front is TCG, Logo and etc on back are OCG)
Another answer would be to look on tcgplayer.com, they offer the best prices for cards and they give you a good glimpse of market prices for the card including its price history, its pretty cool.
So i have a "Number C6: Chronomaly Chaos Atlandis" That has both the gold border of Gold rare but also has the holographic lines of Secret rare and the serial number for it is PGLD-EN018.......so exactly what rarity is this thing (btw this is my favorite card i own because it looks so amazing
Doesn't the thing in the corner (the Anubis eye) if it's 1st edition it's gold unlimited silver and limited in a way ghost rare because you can't see the Anubis eye
I have a Ghost Rare Red Dragon ArchFiend/Assualt Mode, I have a Secret Rare Rescue Rabbit that I pulled from Photon Shockwave, And a Mosaic Rare Tasuke Knight. Tasuke Knight op.
Thanks for making this vid Azneyes. This might help me fix up my trade binder. Quick question though. What about the Black Rare (I think that's what its called) where the black text in the card's name is more darker/thicker than normal? or can that be classified as a misprint?
Glad you made this video. It was very helpful. I'm new to trading, does 1st edition mean anything better or worse than cards that say limited edition or nothing at all?? Thanks in advance.
Phuubz it really depends on the card, I have tons of cards that say limited edition on them that are only worth a couple bucks, while I have a super rare that was around $10. So it just depends on the rarity and how many copies were printed of the card that determine if it has a higher value or not, hope this helps!
Thanks so much! I've never played Yugioh in my life, but I have an absolute TON of first edition cards, including quite a few rare ones! xD Hoping to get some good money from them! xD
Would a misprint result in a card being worth more or less? For instance, I have I believe a super rare Dark Magic Attack that has a misprint of foil in a glob like shape near the border.
I know this is an old video but at least I know why my Anti Spell Fragrance Secret Rare looked so odd.Im pretty sure I bought the pack at Wal-Mart. I guess its a parallel rare? God so many rarities....
How can you tell how old a card is? They all have copyright 1996 on them as far as I’m seeing. And what’s the significance of a 1st edition card in Yu-Gi-Oh? I’m familiar with the Pokémon TCG, but I’ve been wanting to get into Yu-Gi-Oh for a long time.
So i have a Lord of D. from starter deck kaiba and its shiny. like rainbow shiny not just the picture but the whole card, the name is in basic black and not first edition. cant tell what rarity it is.
it is not called "Hobby League" it is "Parallel Rare". Hobby League is just the name of the Tournaments where you get the Cards and the Name of the Set itself. Mosaik Rare is not Starfoil they are 2 different Rarities. Also you forget the Color Rares and you could mention the Black and White Rare Cards from Battlepack (even if they are just Rares they look different from the normal ones)
I have a question about some cards I have. The entire face of some cards have this circular like rainbow effect to it and I've never seen anything like this. Can anybody help me out?
I have a ultimate tyranno with gold on the edge and the boarder for the picture and it's brownish gold and it's like a rough feeling all around what type is that
My first thought on this video: "Damn, that's a crazy mat"
Man I loved the older secret rares, they feel a lot ore durable
So the "tiers" in rarity is ...common -> rare -> super -> ultra...what goes after ultra between Ultimate, Ghost and Secret?
the first wave of the product, 1st edition is always going to be worth more than the same rarity/set of the card
Great video! But for someone just getting into this it's very confusing lol (aka me)

Is that shiny edges? I'm checking all of my super old cards that I want to play the game
It wasn’t out yet I think

the secret rare lining on the cards is determined weather it is euro print or american print it doesnt have anything to do with how old the card is
Its like a card print defect. Its kind of like a misprint, but with the holographic effect. So your card should be secret rare or super rare, but the holographic effect was just missprinted in production. But missprints are still valuable just because their interesting to see.
i would recommend removing the sleeves for the video the glare made it difficult
How much does that rose dragon cost I love that card and I'm new to yugioh
The black rose dragon in ghost rare are now extremely expansive because it is oldest card from yugioh 5d's booster pack. U can still buy it at tcgplayer.com if u want just that card.

the shitty .25 cent promo?
SOOO many raritys, I just got back into yugioh and I'm 2 generations behind. I stopped at 5d's and finished episode 1 of zexul
i believe it was starting with galactic overlord, the card format slightly changed, making the card art slightly larger and the rest of the card proportioned to that.
Ghost is my favorite too. I got really cool looking ghost rare solom judgement.
My favorite rarity is Secret Rare.
Ghost rare is best wat dah hek
Hearth Venter Personally I think ghost rares look like shit. secret rares look the best because how "sparkly" the foil is.

Im a newer player and this helped me A LOT. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for this, took me a while to find out what kind some of the cards I had from games were (they're prismatic secret rares, hurrha).
awesome thanks not knowing which is which does hurt a little. i only know that some of my good cards are worth a lot due to looking up the card number and then listings of rarity type. this will help me catalog my collection an determine what exactly i have and what they are worth... with out knowing the rarity i have a number of cards 60$ + one i have with it's rarity known is $130 by its self. woot so when i catalog ill be sure to let you know what my net worth is lol
Thanks dude! You helped me figure out if my card I bought was fake or not. It wasn’t. I was very worried tho. You helped a lot!
Since Galactic Overlord they make the font and picture bigger so it can be easier to read or something like that.
great video ... u should do a video on how to build a deck from the beginning to a deck that can be play in ether local or regional
Finally you release this guide
Shortprints are cards that haven't been printed much in a set, which makes it harder to pull since there is less of them.
I have a ghost rare from the special invasion of venom pack in Japan which is coming in Australia in a couple of months

I kind of like that the good cards can be common now. Everyone deserves the chance to use good cards.
Great video thanks for the help! Really helpful and tons of information. Awesome!
thanks man. I've always wondered what the difference between all these rarities.
It's actually in 3 different structure decks, Marik's structure deck, the dragunity structure deck and Dawn of the Xyz.

Umm.. you're currently linking to an entire set (www.mawo-cards.com/produkte02/Yu-Gi-Oh/Einzelkarten/Boosterserien/The-New-Challengers/) instead of a single card. And the rarities of those cards are mentioned below it.
For example:
NECH-EN000
English | 1st Edition
Lancehorhynchus
Super Rare_________________________
sorry about that.
i was refering to to this card
www.mawo-cards.com/produkte02/Yu-Gi-Oh/Einzelkarten/Boosterserien/The-New-Challengers/33636_Dark-Rebellion-Xyz-Dragon

Okay, I know this comment was made a year ago but oh my fucking god that is a shit ton of words. This is almost the largest comment I have seen
My favorite raretey is gold rare because most of my gimmick puppets and other of my extra deck is gold rare
i had a blue eyes shining dragon straight from the movie and it tore a little bit, and me being a stupid little kid i ripped the whole back off of it. now its lost so I only have memories of my favorite card ever
i dont hate this Video, i found it quite informative.... i felt that you REALY should have taken all the cards out of the Protective sleeves.. trying to see all the shinning while you are rotating them around, and getting constant Glare from the Plastic Sleeve..
Ultimate Rare Chaos Dragon Emperor Envoy of the Beginning
I have 3 Dark magicians, one's a common, ones a super rare, and ones a ultra rare.
those are pretty common to see, so it wont increase the value of the card
This vid was really helpful! I found out that I have a super rare Mist Valley Falcon. Thank you!
That Gem-knight Pearl card looks epic. What series is it form
What about the different versions of rare? They don't only have Black, White or Silver text, sometimes they have shiny green or red (I have both). Also, Jap Misprints can be worth a bit sometimes (Front is TCG, Logo and etc on back are OCG)
great and very educational video, just bought me some cards to invest in long term...
I have a secret rare limited edition NM Stardust Dragon, how much is it worth?
Lewis Ross Soulja Boy ft Lil B - 30 Thousand 100 Million (Official Music Video)
Another answer would be to look on tcgplayer.com, they offer the best prices for cards and they give you a good glimpse of market prices for the card including its price history, its pretty cool.
AznEyes AKA Slaydra You didn't mention Platinum Rare, Gold Secret Rare, Shatterfoil :/ The Platinum Secret Rare cards are best.
Alex Moak this video is from 2013 and they were not out then
TheOnlyNinja
I just saw that the whole card is shiney and color changing but yellow name
@AznEyesWhiteDragon some Ultra rare`s Like Rainbow dragon can be fake just because if you scratch a bit of the writing it will come off
So i have a "Number C6: Chronomaly Chaos Atlandis" That has both the gold border of Gold rare but also has the holographic lines of Secret rare and the serial number for it is PGLD-EN018.......so exactly what rarity is this thing (btw this is my favorite card i own because it looks so amazing
That's from the premium gold series
could have talked about battle pack white and black rares and the weird rares with different colours (purple, green etc.)
Oah hey, I have that exact Dark Magician. The SYE-001
thank god, i was looking for someone to tell me what were the diferences
Doesn't the thing in the corner (the Anubis eye) if it's 1st edition it's gold unlimited silver and limited in a way ghost rare because you can't see the Anubis eye
I have a Ghost Rare Red Dragon ArchFiend/Assualt Mode,
I have a Secret Rare Rescue Rabbit that I pulled from Photon Shockwave,
And a Mosaic Rare Tasuke Knight.
Tasuke Knight op.
I have an ultimate rare strong wind dragon and elemental hero neos knight, as well as a ghost rare dragon knight Draco exquisite
I think there was a common Mirror Force in the Marik/Odieon structure deck.
i found out that i have a couple prismatic gold rares (gold with prismatic text), it says 'PGLD' on the card, and they look pretty freakin cool :)
black rares come from battle pack, meaning that it is not a misprint, it is an actual rarity.
Aren't those prismatic cards with larger patterns called "shatterfoil"?
Thanks for making this vid Azneyes. This might help me fix up my trade binder. Quick question though. What about the Black Rare (I think that's what its called) where the black text in the card's name is more darker/thicker than normal? or can that be classified as a misprint?
I have a reckless greed and usually trap cards are white but mine was black,it was imprinted in
its just from battle pack. all the rares in that set are either black or white rare
What about the silver v. gold logo square at the bottom. I have some cards with a gold one and some with a silver one
I also have a 1st edition super rare elemental hero shining Phoenix enforcer that was pulled from a booster pack
I have a Water God card that is klike the ghost card, its very flimsy and bends easily.. I still have a crease in it im working out.
what was your first secret rare? mine was that grass looks greener.
New Ultimate Rares (Since 2011) also have shiny borders.
Glad you made this video. It was very helpful. I'm new to trading, does 1st edition mean anything better or worse than cards that say limited edition or nothing at all?? Thanks in advance.
Tikia Talks Back First edition generally increases value for some players by like a dollar.
It would be easier to see the differences between the cards if you had them out of the sleeves. But good video, informative.
You mist green and blue rare where the title of the crad is shiny green or blue ^^
We in Germany have those
Quick question, how much value on average does a card being limited edition give it?
It has been.
6 months.
Bro.
EDIT: Didn't mean to make this sound condescending, sorry
It has been.
1 year.
Bro.
Phuubz it really depends on the card, I have tons of cards that say limited edition on them that are only worth a couple bucks, while I have a super rare that was around $10. So it just depends on the rarity and how many copies were printed of the card that determine if it has a higher value or not, hope this helps!
Thanks!
It has been.
2 years.
Bro. XD
I have all the Egyptian gods and there limited edition WITH AMAZING ART
Thanks so much! I've never played Yugioh in my life, but I have an absolute TON of first edition cards, including quite a few rare ones! xD Hoping to get some good money from them! xD
Would a misprint result in a card being worth more or less? For instance, I have I believe a super rare Dark Magic Attack that has a misprint of foil in a glob like shape near the border.
typically worth more
Also Flower Cardian Lightflare ..
I have my dad's card from early 2000s it's a Charcoal Inpachi SOD-EN001 it's name is gold and shiny level and fire element. What rarity is it?
I know this is an old video but at least I know why my Anti Spell Fragrance Secret Rare looked so odd.Im pretty sure I bought the pack at Wal-Mart. I guess its a parallel rare? God so many rarities....
its like the writers for the sci-fi channel name these things. super ultra secret rare vs mecha shark
This is so helpful I didn't now that my evigishki levianima was a sercert rare
i also got an azure eyes silver dragon that's 1st edition, gold text, holographic picture. but the entire card is white
So i have a Lord of D. from starter deck kaiba and its shiny. like rainbow shiny not just the picture but the whole card, the name is in basic black and not first edition. cant tell what rarity it is.
black rose ghost rare looked awesome on camera I'm surprised
He also missed black indented and also tournament edition where the cards have red letters
that Catastor looks awesome! it makes me want 1 to add to my 3 turbo pack caiuses i have
it is not called "Hobby League" it is "Parallel Rare".
The bottom corner also serves a purpose
Gold Anubis: 1st Edition
Silver: Unlimited
+MetalheadDragon commons also have silver Anubis stamps
Wade Wilson do they? I just checked a common 1st edition I have and it has a gold anubis.
MetalheadDragon yeah I millions of commons and they all have silver or gold. The ones with no uncommon, limited, or 1st edition still are silver.
I have a question about some cards I have. The entire face of some cards have this circular like rainbow effect to it and I've never seen anything like this. Can anybody help me out?
I have a ultimate tyranno with gold on the edge and the boarder for the picture and it's brownish gold and it's like a rough feeling all around what type is that
Dang this helped alot :D ty azneyes ima watch this a lot to remember this
Could you look up on Gem-Knights and do a deck tech for it? I really like the archetype and id'e love to see your style to it.
so it really all about how hard it is to obtain a card, pulling out of packs is harder so cards will be more valuable
What does Shortprint common mean? You didn't mention that in the video. The wiki doesn't explain it very well.
At our second locals a friend of mine pulled Catastor.
I was jelly.
i like the super and ultra rares more than the rest..idk sometimes the other ones are just too damn shiny and makes them look tacky!
