First Engine Bay Detail In 33 Years! Disaster BMW E30 Detail!

- 33 years of absolute filth built up on this 1987 BMW 325i(E30). I'll start first by saying that dirt that has been sitting for 6 months hits a lot different than dirt that is older than you. This engine bay detail was no easy task and it took hours and hours of picking away at small areas multiple times. We put together this video in hopes of compressing the process into something that satisfies your eyes, and maybe ears.
We took it a step further this time and actually refinished the infamous M20 valve cover to breath a little extra life into the engine bay. We hope you enjoy the process!

They built them well back then! My 1990 has held up well. Almost 400,000 km. No rust, just a very minor oil leak and some chipped clear coat. My engine bay is as dirty as this one though, so this is inspiring for me!!

This is the most detailed engine detail I've ever seen.
I feel happy to have found your channel. You do amazing work. The only thing I would do differently here is that I would probably polish the fuse cap a bit with some plastics polisher. The haziness and yellow effect make it look dirty in comparison to the rest of the engine.
I was like no dont paint it black it doesnt suit. But then you sanded the logo out and i was like man that is nice.... Subscribed

Well when you’re spraying individual pieces with a spray bottle and not pressure washing the entire engine bay, it doesn’t really matter

Very nice detailing. I have some experience with painting valve covers with wrinkle paint. In order to make the painted finish last it’s strongly recommended to sand blast it 🙂👍🏻 The paint you used is good because no primer needed 👌🏻

Long time BMW tech here.. That engine looks better than when the E30 was new. They would come off the cargo ships covered in protectant. Real pain to get that stuff off.
I recently bought an E30and I don’t think the engine bay had ever been derailed had to do the same but I don’t regret any bit of it love the car

I love ur channel bc of the e30 vids. I drive an e28 and i wish i was as good of a detail as u. I just recently did an engine bay clean on my car but it was nowhere as in depth as this

Normaly you have to clean off all kinds of residue from caked on sealants, anti rust and body protection spray!
This E30 has seen little rain and has just a lot of dirt and road grime
What's really bothering me is when you use the steel wire brush. I suggest using a plastic brush is much safer (not scratching) and cleaner because it's more flexible than steel wire brush.

I am really curious as to why you left the wind shield washer container, the AFM, and other stuff in the engine bay to clean them. There is a lot of stuff there that takes two screws to pop out and would make for an easier deep clean.

Awesome video. Maybe try increasing the angle at which you film the engine so that your arm doesn't block what you are trying to show, might be a bit difficult though given the way the bonnet opens. Keep up the great content.

Brett E a mild degreaser and soft bristle brush works great! You can use a hose just use minimal water

The plastic splash guard probably got taken off years ago. You'd be surprised how much that thing helps keep the bay clean.

Wait.. you don't just spray degreaser on the engine and spray it off and then coat it in armor all like all the new car dealerships do? from my experience your doing it wrong bc new car dealers use old mitts and 3 week old soap buckets full of dirt and grime lol. kidding of course i love the detail and I'm glad someone else out there likes to put in the time to make it look good. How do you clean your microfiber towels?
SDMotors haha all of these went in the garbage. Typically will use Gyeon towel wash for normal towels
I noticed on the first shot of cleaning the plastics you ended up steaming first before using the degreaser. Was that to help loosen up the caked in oil for the degreaser or just what you ended up doing at that point? Lol
What grit paper did you use on the valve cover??
