Dude would you mind ranking like your favourite 3-5 albums and your 5 favourite songs(from opeth). I'm into prog music, i like animals as leaders, haken and more classic stuff like pink floyd and love so much black water park but couldn't never enjoy other opeth works but always wanted to. @@gorsedh Album wise: 1. Ghost Reveries, very mixed between heavy and calm/melodic 2. Blackwater Park, My first Opeth album and if you're like me you'll never stop coming back to it. 3. Deliverance, heavy sister album to Damnation which is all calm tracks and also really good. Although at 3 and onwards it could really be several, I placed deliverance because I know it's more generally well liked, even though I've heard it said that Opeth considered it their worst album. Song wise: 1. Harlequin Forest. Favourite song of all time. 2. The Leper Affinity, first heavy Opeth song I heard that immediately hooked me. 3. To Bid You Farewell, a calm soul soother on the riff-pocalypse that is Morningrise. 4. Bleak, song is particularly repeatable without getting bored, also features singer of porcupine tree for clean vocals. 5. (Too many to choose from but:) Heir Apparent, play if you want something HEAVY, to shock and awe the unprepared, but try to get them invested first, you'll easily scare off a newcomer with this one. My taste is very Heavy oriented but I'm still a huge sucker for the more prog and calm tracks, if you want to explore those first I recommend starting with Sorceress/Damnation and then go forward in chronological order through their stuff until the newest, In Cauda Venenum, which will probably be your favourite, THEN go back and from Still Life to Watershed you can have a metalfest, and finally you can try out Morningrise and My Arms, Your Hearse as the albums that are most niche and take the longest to adjust to, it took me 3 different attempts before I could handle MAYH, but definitely worth it in the end. I still haven't forced myself to appreciate their debut album Orchid, and it might be a bit beyond me but I've got another attempt in me somewhere. Hope this helps coming from a guy who basically did what's in the text above for the past year.
