    Ok I been together tig welding for bout 20 years from stainless to aluminum and I just wanted to get a question going for the fans which do you prefer red or green tungsten I prefer green myself with aluminum cause the tungsten tip is a nice ball on the tip and use the red for stainless and sharpening it you are sharpening your tips ( to me ) a lil to blunt I like mine a lil more longer I learned to walk the cup at age 20 on stainless pipe

      I dont use either. Those colors are geared more torwards the old transformer TIG welders. The new inverter style machines do better with other tungsten mixes. I use Blue for everything 2% Lanth

    If you don't have a dedicated tungsten grinder, chuck the tungsten up in a cordless drill and spin it against the belt or grinding stone. Much faster and more consistent. BTW, I also use a belt grinder to sharpen my tungsten. :)

    • @Thefabforums
      @Thefabforums  6 лет назад +1

      yeah that does work well

      That's what I do, I have a little drill that I generally only use for sharpening it :) takes seconds.

    Im about to attempt to do some chrome moly cage work question is could you make make a video or reply here as to the Tungsten size and type and rod type and size you prefer to use to stack dimes on those cages ..thanks

    • @Thefabforums
      @Thefabforums  6 лет назад

      ER70s-2 is the filler you need to use. I use 2% Lanth on an inverter machine. The size of filler and tungsten depends on what I am welding

    Hey Kyle. I like the dedicated tungsten grinder from Eastwood... seems like a cool deal for consist results. I'm not a welder, but I remember a buddy of mine mentioning some radioactive dangers involved in grinding thoriated tungsten. I've never really looked into it, but assume there are safer options available. If so, would you mind touching on that topic sometime in the future. Good series. Thanks, man.👊

    • @Thefabforums
      @Thefabforums  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah for sure. I dont think they make the Thoriated anymore. If they do I dont use it. Probably do a series on all the various tungstens

      Hi Mick, The issue with Thoriated Tungstens, is they have 2% Thorium Oxide in them which makes them slightly radioactive, therefore a lot of OH@S groups are stopping use of them (even though it is not a critical amount of Radioactivity) They are changing to 2% Lanthanated or Ceriated or Tri-mix tungstens.

    I like the idea of the tungsten grinder, have been thinking about getting one. My thinking is the consistent and repeatable grind angles and tip profile should give you more consistent and repeatable arcs, therefore better welds. Or maybe that's just me justifying some more tools to make me feel like a better welder........

    • @Thefabforums
      @Thefabforums  6 лет назад +1

      yeah that is the case....

    • @lovescamaros1

      i use a drill and disc sander to sharpen my tungsten but its all personal preference.

  • @jesualdogallardo901
    @jesualdogallardo901 6 лет назад

    The quickest way is putting tungsten in drill and using grinder to sharpen tungsten

    • @Thefabforums
      @Thefabforums  6 лет назад

      I would have mine done before you even got it in the drill....so no its not the quickest way

  • @vikp6115
    @vikp6115 6 лет назад

    Put ur tungsten into drill and spin it while u hold it to ur belt, bench grinder or even tungsten dremmel, much more comfy thsn twisting it with ur hands

    • @Thefabforums
      @Thefabforums  6 лет назад

      yeah I have done that before but It just takes more time than needed

    I would dress that bench grinder stone up or toss it. It’s dangerous having a groove like that as it can come apart at them speeds.

  • @spectyr

    Please get rid of the background music. It's so distracting from what your saying.

  • @Hipgluthabidydabidy

    You shouldn't be putting a groove in your grinding wheel not very safe!
