If you set the VM to use a bridged network adapter, the VM can have its own IP address and MAC address, apart from the host and all through the same physical adapter. Also, to preserve the integrity of a VM you can use snapshotting. This allows you to restore the VM to a previous point in time where you took an earlier snapshot, thus eliminating any hack or malware that may have been installed. Another thing that can be done (at least with VM Ware, I don't know about VBox) is you can set up a VM with two virtual disk drives. The boot drive can be a static volume, and the second drive can be dynamic. You use the second only to store data. But the boot volume will automatically reset to a pristine state after any shutdown. All boot volume changes are in RAM only. You can also run a VM on a virtual encrypted volume, which is a big encrypted file sitting on a physical HD that can be mounted as a volume, provided you know the password.

All boot volume changes are in RAM only.
You can also run a VM on a virtual encrypted volume, which is a big encrypted file sitting on a physical HD that can be mounted as a volume, provided you know the password.
But the external website will still see your actual IP.
@@robbraxmantech I've never tried wiresharking this but if the VM has its own IP address, why would the packet contain the return IP address of the host?
Hi, any opinion about the Little Snitch software for Mac ?
I use it and love it... Helps block known offenders trying to tie up my bandwidth... Pure genius... Would love to know if there is something smarter out there as this is an older tool....
Rob, excellent video! QUESTION: if you are using a hardened FireFox browser optimized for privacy or even the TOR browser, what is the impact on your privacy when using a private window? In other words is their leakage between the private window and the main? I ask because compartmentalizing use cases in different browsers can become challenging and I want to make sure I understand how this works.
Your browsing sessions won't be associated with you. That's because you (might be) logged into Google account on normal window, and websites with Google Analytics might use it to serve you ads
If you are using cookie manager or auto delete plugin, you probably won't need to care
After a year i got this recommendation damnit is there any android virtual machine so we could use in. Android phones ?
Very thanks for your tutorial
The Manjaro link for "discussion on how to license Windows 10 in a Virtual Machine" is invalid.
Super helpful! Thanks!
so dapper in d shirt
Hi Rob, first thing I ever run after setting up an Ubuntu VM is Sudo ufw enable. If it's another distro, it's Sudo systemctl ufw enable and afterwards Sudo ufw status verbose
great tutorial rob.
Another fantastic video Rob. Thanks. I would like to know your option on the QKEY.
Nicely said
Awesome!! Thanks!!
Dear Brax, you said that apps don't necessarily know they're in a VM. Assume the app wants to know. What kind of tricks do apps use to figure out if they're in a VM or on bare metal? Hardware signatures? CPU Clock? Please explain
20:29 I wonder how many people realise why the sheep appears in the cloning dialog?
Fellow boomers will remember that the first successful clone of a mammal was a sheep. This technology dates back to that time: and when the effigy of Dolly the sheep was first used in that dialog box it would have been obvious to any user with any interest in science.
Just a reminder to you younger folk that so much of the tech you love was created by us boomers ;)
what happens when you share folders? or merge networks?
what do you think of whonix
Great info ... Thank you !! Rob what is your opinion of key scramblers for typing online ???!
why not just encrypted messaging apps?
@@robbraxmantech Sometimes contact forms are needed to reach people as the first step to communicate so option for not using conventional messaging available.
Did you forget about the "Guest Additions CD" install?
linux doesn’t need it
If you want to run vista, use 5.2.x.
@@rorymorgan6091 Maybe not for video and audio support, but is it not needed for the shared bidirectional clipboard and possibly some other things?
I understand this is a year old video but, do you still believe using an email client is more secure than using a web based service that requires a password (2-step verification) in a secure browser? The way I understand email clients is the download the email as an attachment and store this information on your desktop for anyone to see or has the ability to hack your computer (gov. agency, thieves etc.).
*Can you talk about Android virtual machine like vmos*
@Ray N can you give a link to a tutorial, I can't find any
Android VM examples: Anbox
@@robbraxmantech Oh Rob, could you make a tutorial for installing Anbox on Ubuntu Touch? A few days ago I installed Anbox on Ubuntu desktop with a lot of sweat and research. It worked finally. With Ubuntu Touch I fear to break my phone. A tutorial would be so welcome!!! Thank you!
I have and android phone, and virtual box, anbox run on Linux. I wanted something which created a android vm inside android. Vmos is something that can do that, I was looking for a few alternatives to it.
The thing is to install Windows in a virtual machine from the beginning. When u install windows the very first time. I saw a bunch of videos when the pc was restarted, the virtual machine showed up first for a few seconds. This is the way I’d like to install windows, the way u do it is good for Linux n Mac users. Not what I need.
Excellent ❤
Hey Rob, I just found a switch on Android that will shut off all your sensors. (Credit to a RUclips video). How do you feel this improves security?
Whats your opinion about bitdefender box?
What you think about disroot?
Can I install Linux mint with Cinnamon desktop in VM and do I still call it Ubuntu? Thanks for the great video.

"Qubes, qubes, qubes!" Wait a second, you mean, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!"
I watched many videos of yours, but you never talked about kali linux.whats the problem?
Kali Linux is an offensive hacking toolkit. I use it. It is not a Privacy OS.
@@robbraxmantech thank you for reply i appreciate it.
I love getting the so called Windows department hacks calling me about my Windows computer. It's faked out to look like Windows 9 (really Linux VM) USB hardware emulation is still not there.
is this the same as using browser isolation
