Man you should really do another CJ trail video. This one is gold.

It's always good to see older jeeps on RUclips. It seems like all we see now days are Jks. Don't get me wrong I like the newer Jeeps but watching Cj's always a treat. I have Cj7 and Jk Rubicon and enjoy both of them.
I also liked the clear video.

I've had an '85 CJ (my avatar) since '94 and my girlfriend has a '98 TJ she bought new. I drive both of them pretty often and have done some "extremely difficult" rated trails in her Open diff TJ. My jeep has never been on a rated trail but it's been on it's side twice so...
Anyhow, it is fun to drive one and then the other. Being used to the CJ makes the TJ feel like driving a car, but offroad it tends to have the opposite effect for me. The TJ is less predictable but more agile with the suspension so I tend to be able to run the same sort of line I can with the CJ although the CJ has a 9 inch rear with an intentionally tight posi (1 extra metal shim).
I've been working on the CJ a lot recently, new water pump, and the power steering pump is new and not leaking as it has been for the last 23 years. Just put a new u-joint on the rear transfer case side, finally replace the cobbled together one from the axle swap I did 7 years ago just tonight. The thing had one lobe that was becoming cone shaped due to a lack of grease. I'll be heading down to our state park trails soon enough.
Backstory, my father and I bought this Jeep together back when I turned 16. He was an automotive guru of sorts and taught me more than I could ever tell you in a RUclips post (tears just thinking about it). We did all sorts of work on the Jeep (engine, transmission, etc) and after high school I kind of abandoned it in the back woods behind a friends parents house. After my father died I dragged it back out of the woods and went to work on it. I probably have 20 or 30 thousand miles on it since then and I have sworn that I will keep it running forever as a legacy to my father.
Anyhow, sorry for the long post and long live the CJ! I hope they keep coming out with a new Jeep every year until I pass (even if it's from Chrysler).

@@1985cjjeeper Great father/ son story. My grandfather was a WWII Army medic and he got me into Jeeps. I like most 2 door Wranglers and every pre Wrangler for sure. In a lot of ways, I feel Jeep died in '06 with the last TJ on that assembly line in Toledo. I made a mistake buying an '08 JK X. Although it was a 2 door with a soft top. It was rolling plastic. The engine sucked, had that miserable 3.8 mini van engine. The grill was garbage plastic, a toddler can break them. Seeing videos like this make you appreciate what a true Jeep is and how unfortunately far they are now from being a Jeep. Early in this video, you saw those 4 door rolling buses. I'm sorry but like spotting an obese woman on the beach in a speedo, I turn away, I can't look at them. I can't in good conscience view them as Jeeps. Jeeps have 2 doors, soft top, round headlights and have steel grills. And I'm partial, a 4.0L Inline 6 and I'm good. YJ's are cool too in spite of those square lamps.

I put a link to my worklog in the description for you to look at--but its old. My current setup: RE 4.5" HD lift, Billstein 5100s, D44 rear w/Dutchmen Chromolys, D30 front w/ Chromolys and a spartan (grips awesome!), new Spicer 4.98 gears, 35x12.5 Wrangler MTR w/Kevlar (best tire I have ever owned, and I'm a tire guy!), Chevy 350 w/70s Quadrajet, TH350 tranny, Dana 300 w/twin sticks, and a Ron Francis BareBonez Wiring system. NUTMEG interior (took years to find it all). I can't believe how well she runs...I'm so happy with her. AND CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR "NEW" CJ!

Actually fun experiment--I had a locker in the front (because you can simply turn it off with locking hubs) and my buddy had one in the rear. We both thought that the rear would be more effective, but the front one we both agreed for this trail at least was far superior. It seemed to pull the Jeep up with ease the same obstacles my buddy's Jeep struggled on.
