This is an A+++ comment. My uncle had a Willy’s Jeep on his ranch that he would let his nieces and nephews run around his ranch in. In fact, I would use it during deer season and killed my first muley while shooting his 280 Rem across the hood. Simply awesome memories. Thanks hoss!

15K? My XJ costed me 1100€ and I don't think I've put more than 3K more in it.
When I graduated hs my grandfather bought me a 78 cj7 304 quadratrack no lift just put some 33's on some 10" offset wheels for a good stance and that jeep was unstoppable only time I had to be pulled out of a hole was when I ran out of gas loved that jeep.
Expensive Truck/Jeep owners: “You need a highly modified rig to do this!” *along comes grandpa, roaring out of the 1940s in his little unstoppable war machine that sat in a barn for the last 70 years* Expensive truck/Jeep owners: *existential crisis realizing they spent way too much money.*
I am one of those grandpa...me n my 44..had close to 30 Willys my life...find em..blow out the mud..put in fresh gas...fire em up..and pass em on to new believer.....
It's all about weigth and power, 45 BHP is not enough to break axles on 980kg Jeep + you have a huge chunk of cast iron in the form of a Go Devil engine sitting pretty low so the chances of tipping over are neglible compared to a modern jeep sitting on a 6 inch lift and 40+inch tires. It still takes balls to take 4 brake drumbs down steep slopes, but really, the weight is where the strength is compared to modern day Jeeps.
I remember when I was a teenager my brother and I were hunting up high in the mountains and along came a jeep with two elk on it. One on the hood and one on the back and two old guys drinking beer on thier way down the mountain. Always loved them after we saw where thier tracks went!
Proof that you don’t need an overpowered engine and crazy electronics to go off-roading and have fun. The electronics take a lot of the thrill from the ride anyways.
Kyle H exactly my truck has a 4 banger and has never let down, have a bigger transfer case then the Dana 20 though (can’t remember exact one atm) and I have had to go save my buddy when he went out in his raptor and was either under experienced and did something dumb like going out alone without a working radio, or not paying attention to the track he is on and getting really messed up.
The NDTs are still readily available by a few manufacturers As mentioned, there are two sizes that fit the 16 inch rims And there is a reason the military used those tires for so many years
Those Willys are simply awesome! I wanted one when I was a kid. My dad said I needed two. One to drive, one for parts. But alas I couldn’t cut enough grass to earn enough to buy one let alone two. It’s nice to live vicariously through these! Cheers Doc
“Bam Bam” gets around. I saw her passing through Placerville a year or so ago. I’m a grandpa too, and I drive a OD ‘43 GPW. Gotta love these jeeps. Thanks for posting,
I bought my first Jeep about a month ago, 2003 TJ Rubicon, and while its a nice rig, I've watched probably a dozen videos from your group in the Willys rigs, and a rig like Bam Bam it looks like I would have as much or more fun in it, than in anything else I could ever find. That thing does awesome.
Pretty impressive for the stock tires and open diffs in these things. I can here the axel shafts breaking in this junk... definitely one of many week links in the flat fenders. I had a bone stock 43 when I was a kid that we took places it had no business being. We didn’t know any better and sure we got stuck plenty of times but never managed to tip it flip it or get hurt. Fast forward 40 years and there are places I won’t take my locked up CJ making 4x the power with a full cage and no excuses. I guess the though of having to turn a wrench on broken junk keeps me from acting like a 15 year old. Great video.
My grandfather fought in the 5th infantry in ww2 they marched beside tanks and jeeps across Europe and he said without a doubt that the jeep was responsible for saving thousands of lives including his. From the beaches of Normandy to the battle in the ardennes then on to Berlin the jeep was there saving lives and kicking nazi ass for my grandfather the jeep was so much more than a vehicle .god bless are vets and all who serve today and those who will tommorow
My older brother used to run the Rubicon trail in the 1960's & 70's in a 1945 Willy's and never failed to cross the finish line ever and usually crossed it first place..never underestimate the old Willy's Jeep's!!
I’m not an expert at telling the year a jeep was manufactured so I don’t know whether these were made before 1950 but that is my guess. 1950 was the year the name “Jeep” became a registered trademark and thus a proper name. Before that, most people used the word as a reference to a type of vehicle - narrow, short-wheelbase - high ground clearance. They were no more inclined to capitalize the word “jeep” than they were to capitalize the word “truck”. I like to watch videos similar to this one because doing so makes it easier for me to imagine the reaction of the GIs who first drove them. Most of those GIs had never even seen a 4-wheel-drive vehicle - much less driven one. They must have been absolutely astonished at what the jeeps could do compared to the cars they had driven. And keep in mind that many of those GIs were from families that had never owned even a rear-wheel-drive car. Beginning in the 1980s, my wife started saying “It’s 20% vehicle and 80% driver. Some drivers understand geometry and physics without necessarily having taken classes in those subjects. That these guys understand both is obvious by the WAY they drive the jeeps. THIS is how we taught our children to drive - first in low range first gear with a manual transmission. If more kids started out that way, they would cause less mayhem on the public roads when they get their licences. Finally, thanks for not using “music” when you made this video.
I heard jeep came from the popeyes character eugene the jeep because he could go anywhere. I'm not sure about the name jeep coming from because it was tuff or because it was new equipment.
Back in one day about 35 mi. having a good time when a mad badger come out of nowhere and grabbed the two front tires with a health bite, tore a chunk of sidewall off the tires and instant flat she went. Then he ran off. That animal was a set of teeth on a rampage. Took some time before a couple other Willys guy come through and let us barrow their spares. Those guys became our best friends even today.
Imagine back in the day some general saying our trucks will never make it through here buddy pulls a tape measure out yea actually we can start scaling here
My grandfather told me stories of them doing just that even wrapping a tarp around the bottom and floating them across a river he only wished he had a real paddle and not a shovel to row with lol
These are guys I want to explore with. In contrast, I like seeing the ultimate adventure (just not this year's they sucked) but there are to many rules and restrictions whereas these vids are of free rangers👍😃
That's how you know that everything back in the 40s was made to last if a old ww2 jeep can climb inclines better than a heavily modded out modern day jeep that's how you know we've gone down in quality building when a ww2 vehicle climbs inclines better than a modern day tricked out vehicle

As a Moab born and raised, I love this. These tourists breaking their 80k rigs on trails my father completed in a 15k shortbed K10 gives me life.

@ Thats an XJ for ya. Shortbed k10s have been on the rise in value, clean examples are selling for stupid money.
@ great

134 CID 4 cylinder, a T84 transmission and a dana 20 transfer case will get you anywhere

Never mind that the electronics are crazy expensive, and very unreliable!
torque over speed
Kyle H Hood catch. Put a mouse in a wheel with the right gearing and that thing will pull a plow
Impressive that they run the old tires even!
Sort of, if they were the correct size that would be really impressive.

If the Jeep roll, he die
if he dies he dies
A ive seen some with roll bars befroe
...meh, he'll just bruise a bit.
And if he dies, he's dead.
And I laugh.
I have a daughter and her husband that have fun in their late model jeep. Big tires and other equipment. My old jeep goes anywhere their jeep goes.

Always Bitter Sweet watching these guys, As a Willys jeep restorer and owner myself.
I’m in love. Climbed out of the Escalator like nobody’s business!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I did that with a 74 scout once and realized I don’t have enough money for that hobby but I did have a good weekend😊
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"

Riveting watching this. When Stan was pulling up to the edge on TOW my heart rate jumped.
Grandpas Jeep is a beast with a man of steel behind the wheel.

It’s got lockers. You can tell they are not open. 😂
Greatest off-road vehicle ever built
first 4 whell drive I ever owned was a WILLYS and I would rather have it than anything today.
Makes sense willys were built tough 💪💪

Roger Metzger In the military, a “Jeep” referred to a new piece of equipment or recruit.
The jeep was made in the 40s Butler p.a and was called jeep by the military cause it was a tuff name
I heard jeep came from the popeyes character eugene the jeep because he could go anywhere. I'm not sure about the name jeep coming from because it was tuff or because it was new equipment.
I heard that the name possibly came from the army’s call for a “General Purpose “ vehicle, GP
Thanks, Mudd. It was a good video. It makes it look so fun. The kid did great.
I really liked this video. I love it. I love the flat fender. Greetings from Argentina !!
If that jeep were to roll he would be very, very dead
Jesse Garcia Yes yes but the chances are increased think they are just mentioning that/ its just like driving a big fourwheeler tbh
Jesse Garcia i see we have found a new contestant for the darwin award in you.
I reckon you have a good shot, lad
I had a 1943 Ford GPW I use to hunt with in the everglades and west naples
Another weekend...another scratch! Another bruised ego...and my Willys keeps on ticking!
This proves that you don't need 6,000 HP with a 10ft lift and earth mover tires to effectively climb hills.🤔😂
Certain trails you do 😂. This isn’t stock.

Amazing job can't wait till I get a chance to go out and wheel Moab. Keep up the good work, and also can I suggest a windsock for the Microphone?
I bought one after the trip!
You are one skilled driver
Holly crap! This is amazing!
You guys did an "awesome job. Great video!
That Jeep without the cab must’ve been having fuel issues
probbably carb needs cleaned
Wow great video. Crazy!
Youngblood is living the dream at the end.
Wow you guys did High Dive in stock flatties. Respect.
Wow he let the kid drive, awesome job 👍
Love that old Willy's .
Gumby had same one.
its known as the Willys-OVERLAND for a reason. It doesnt care where it is, it'll carry on.
Some of these people are nuts.
I wanna see them mudding next, please.
If it can’t go over it , you can just pick it up and carry it over 😂

Definitely no dominating at 0:21 LOL
ngl the offroad community is really nice
They did Awesome!!!!
“I traveled across the pacific and Europe in this. You think I can’t travel in my own backyard??”
Man, these guys are either brave or crazy. No helmets, a single roll bar, and just a lap seat belt
Stan & Jeff are the masters with their flat fenders!
now I know why the military used these they really do get the job done Army Strong
Big crawlers for big kids who didn't grow up. 😀👍
Freaken awesome! God. Bless🇺🇲🇺🇲
awesome machines!
Thats why they took them to war and as you can see it doesn't need big tires and big engine.
How much is it?
Good job
Does the one at 2:36 have a dauntless? Or some sort of other v6?
4.3 Vortec
That would explain why it does so well on the steep hills!
Looks like fun! Although I would probably want a roll bar in the mb with the soft top
The soft top bars are actually a roll cage. Shhh...
what axle in willys?
Well done
Awesome video
5:03
This is too hard.
5:43
Hold my gas can rookie!
Guy in willys should yell out “” ON STOCK TIRES BITCHES !!””
Willis are awesome!
What a wild intro.
Nice, I would have given my secret buried treasures to have been on this hike.

Pretty friggen cool
Who let grandpa out of the house, he just massacred those people with that willys
I am sure that my Stock-JK would have some serious damages when I would go there 😅
Those first two guys dont fear death. You dont rev the nuts off a jeep 2 feet from a cliff if you're worried about your place in the universe.
What tires are on the canvas top Willy's? I have an M170 with NDT's and I'd like something a bit taller but still narrow.
7.50 x 16 NDT's that have been cut up
I think the willys is like the hachi roku but from the crawling world
Video isn’t synced with audio.
Don't make em like that anymore!
It’s all fun and games till the bell crank breaks off the frame!
Who says that the Willy Jeep isn't still good more than 75 yrs on
Those old jeeps invented Moab.

Dad and his son in gramp's old Jeep.
I want to see all the Mercedes G Wagons follow them.
And they would, the original ones
Those willy's tires look like 6 psi

Looked sketchy as hell 😳
Awesome! 👍👍👍
How tall would you say Grampa is? He looks to be wearing that old flattie
Taller than me, that's for sure
derek840378 I’m Grampa. I’m an overweight 6 feet tall.
Amazing! Bam Bam, you are fantastic driver. I'm your fun )))
Lockers is a good thing up there.
Awesome!
Monster machine
I love these original Jeeps kicking butt and taking names. But they really need real roll cages.
The operative word, I think, is "fall".
Starting and restarting that old Jeep must get old
Dont be such a pussy
I’ll take that into consideration.
1:00 Looks like that Jeep has some problems. Can anyone tell me what it could be?
Super low range, not trying to drive off the edge of the cliff.
@@TurnNBurn Oh, okay. Like 4WD Lock Mode, right?
Yes he has extra low gears. So the Jeep can drive extremely slow without any throttle input.

This is amazing considering the old tire technology, no lockers, stuff suspension and low horsepower.
hello jeff
do you guys run lockers front and rear? bam bam has some nice suspension travel too. any spring modifications?
Lockers all the way around. Bam Bam has custom built leaf springs and suspension geometry.
