I have been a great fan for decades but still apreciate the (shall we say) less than deferential comments by our chaps. I do agree that the "gutting fish" remark may have been a little hurtful. It really is a British/Irish thing. Here in England many of us enjoy friendly insults between friends and this is our way of showing respect which may appear strange to others. Yeah, it's fun, it's sometimes ridiculous, but the majority of the artists and songs are really good. Sweden keeps winning because the public in Sweden are really behind it. They send their best, because winning or doing well at Eurovision gives an artist a big boost in Sweden and around Europe. Artists in the UK think Eurovision is below them.
