  • The story of the sea, in live-action and animation, prepared for the Bell System Science Series on NBC. It depicts the beginnings of the sea and primal life, the sea's chemical composition, continental drift, and the effect of gravitational pull on tides and currents. Narrated by Lawrence Dobkin and including some voice work by Sterling Holloway as Mr. H2O! Aired January 24th, 1964. A revised version was released as an educational film in September 1979 and aired on The Disney Channel in 1983.

    What a fantastic film.From a time when stuff like this played a big role in childrens education.Sadly it is missing today..

      @@keepingwaltindisney Amazing! I've been slowly going through all of Disney - features, shorts, anthologies - from 1921. I'm up to 1956. I'm still yet to stop being amazed by different approaches to animation and storytelling.

    One of the best presentations on the nature of tides I've ever seen. This is a great example of using the right media (at the time) to maximize comprehension. Great stuff.

    In the lower area of the sea, most oceanographers could not visit or look at. Now with all kinds of deep submersibles we learn there are all kinds of animals in this area.

      @@toyman81 Many people believe in a young earth, creationist view where the earth was created by a divine creator roughly 6-8 thousand years ago. Too much info to debate in the comments section, but I also lean that way myself. Not 100% on the time frame, but firmly believe it was created and we are here on purpose, not by chance.
