- Leif Erikson was a norse explorer and the first european to discover the Americas, specifically the area around Newfoundland, which he called Vinland
- Erik the Red was Leif's father (Leif "ErikSON"), and was the one to discover and settle Greenland
- The live-action TV show "Vikings" is set at the very beginning of the viking age, whereas Vinland is set towards the end of the viking age. All of the historical figures you know from the tv show are long dead by the beginning of this anime.
- Also, just as a warning, do take what you've learned from Vikings with a big handful of salt. The show "Vikings" is extremely historically innacurate. It essentially has historical figures live entirely fictional lives and jumping from various different historical events over a compressed 150 year timeframe. Vinland Saga remains fictional as well, certainly don't interpret it as a documentary, but it is FAAAR more historically accurate by comparison
Thorfinn Karlsefni was also a viking explorer from iceland who lived in vinland
100% agree, it incorporated the battle of Stamford Bridge and the nameless Berserker, far more accurate to history than anything produced by western media

Finally, someone else has learned that Vikings is not a historically accurate show. So many people go into the show thinking that's how the Norse and their culture were when its so far from the truth lol.
Honestly so much of our perception of old norse/Viking cultures is totally mythologized by media and stories are etc. doesn’t mean that stuff isn’t also really interesting, but in general, media tends not to handle history or ancient history the best. Anybody who is a nerd on a certain era or culture of history will always be the first to point out inaccuracies related to media representing their period/place of interest, but the problem is a lot more universal in my opinion.
The more I rewatch Vindland Saga, the more I appreciate the pacing in this anime. Not rushed or slow and keeps you engaged throughout. It's amazing

This story is 200 years ahead of vikings( Tv-show). Leaf Erickson is a real person he is an explorer from greenland and is the first to set foot on north America.
This story is way more accuarte than the tv show vikings so don't search any history facts cus it might spoil you!

@@fabi3790 Ragnar is actually considered to be a somewhat mythical figure. His sons are certainly historical though.
@@fabi3790 Thorkell the tall was real, though it is pretty much impossible to tell how tall he actually was. The usual height of a viking back then was around 5'9 / 175 cm.
@@fabi3790 vikings is like 10% accurate lol. By the end of series the writer just gave up on being accurate. The names of the Characters existed but the story and timeline was all wrong.
Vinland saga S1 is done by WIT who did AOT S1-3. S2 of Vinland will be done by MAPPA who is also doing AOT S4.
yes but it's the same team that did s1 so it's like the studio didn't really change anyway.
Why is Wit giving everything to Mappa now?

@@LuisSierra42 wit is losing a lot of money and there focusing on smallest projects. For AOT the were only given 9 months to do part 1 of S4 and the refused to do in such a little time so mappa animated AOT S4

This show is up there alongside Attack on Titan in terms of how many tears I shed while watching it. All I'll say is, the story won't ever go the way you expect
This anime is so special. The background scenery and soundtrack are so ridiculously beautiful as well.

It just hasn't been as popular among anime reaction channels, for whatever reason.
I couldn’t have asked for anything better to replace Fullmetal. Both are not only some of my favourites stories of all time but both have my favourite protagonists of all time too.
I watched Vinland Saga back when it came out in 2019 and when 24th episode finished I almost immediately caved and read the manga. This is truly a work of art and one of the best Viking stories out there. Yukimura was able to capture something truly beautiful with his story and I particularly can’t wait for you two to see and discuss the themes of Vinland Saga. What a ride this is going to be!
As for how many seasons there will be, the first season covers the first arc, so if they keep this pace there should be 4 seasons in total.
However the last arc isn't finished and it may go on for more chapters than the others.
Also yes, this show is from Studio Wit, the animators of the first 3 seasons of Attack on Titan. S2 is produced by Mappa but the same team is working on it
AOT and Vinland have similar themes and they also share that they where first adapted by Wit Studio and later on by Mappa, so yeah, you'll notice many similarities.
This is such a beautiful series! I'm glad you guys are starting it. It made me overflow with so many emotions. I also hold the author in a special place in my heart. With next season coming this January, I'm glad to see fresh eyes discover this masterpiece as well.

This show is actually very historically accurate, except for you know the inhuman strength and speed, it’s fun to tell folks who have seen this show that I know Thorfin’s last name even though it’s never said

For vinland saga i'd say it will probably have multiple seasons considering the manga started in 2005 and is still ongoing if i'm not wrong ( monthly release ).

I'm still waiting for you guys to start The last Kingdom. The final season was this year and in 2023 there's a movie coming out. I've watched your reactions to Vikings, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Better call Saul and I'm probably forgetting some. I know what I am talking about when I'm saying you will LOVE TLK. After you've finished it, it would be one of your favourite series. It's the most underrated series ever.

Vinland Saga is much more historically accurate than Vikings was, within the usual limits for TV. People wear their helmets and use their shields for a start.
According to Tom Shippey in his new book "Beowulf and the North before the Vikings", the Jutes, Angles and Saxons were forced to migrate to Britannia by the warfare in which Denmark came into existence, which resulted from a series of terrible winters caused by volcanic eruptions at the beginning of the 6th century AD. So the later Norse eschatology of the world coming to an end in endless winter could have been a result of a real endless winter that happened and caused the end of the Scandinavian world that Beowulf describes, where the great halls of all the tribes in Denmark were burned and destroyed and people were left in their houses to be eaten by dogs. I believe a Halfdan is someone who used to be loyal to a different kingdom who has changed his coat to fight for the Danes against his own people, or is from a people who have been conquered by the Danes and been absorbed into the Danish kingdom relatively recently. A Mark is a march or a borderland. Mercia in England is the Welsh Marches, the borderland between the Anglo-Saxons and the Welsh. Most of the main characters in the show are based on historical people, and the dates of events in the show are accurate as well.

Great first reaction to Vinland Saga. By the way, since you are already nearing the end of Mob Psycho 100, I strongly recommend that you watch and react to another masterpiece of the anime: *MONSTER*
This masterpiece of the psychological thriller, is the animated adaptation of the homonymous manga created by Naoki Urasawa (known in Japan as the Master of Suspense), made by the Madhouse studio between 2004-2005 (the same animation studio that made Death Note (2006-2007)) and I think it would be perfect for your great analysis and reviews because of its great characters and topics.
I'm not mistaken, Netflix has just put in its catalog (furthermore, I don't think that you have problems in seeing it). If you like suspense and mystery, you'll love *MONSTER*
The bad thing is that the anime has a very slow story and a lot of episodes, that's why it doesn't have many reactors
@@daviddvs4232 I never thought that Monster was slow-paced but maybe for people who just want to watch series like AOT and Demon Slayer, this series might not be fun (I love AOT and DS btw). That said, a slow story doesn't mean a bad thing, like Vinland Saga. If they are the type of people who enjoy great filler episodes and realistic character developments, Monster is definitely the one for them. I also think that they might be interested in this series for the location settings

Congratulations, you have entered a new category of anime/manga, the seinen anime/manga. Seinen anime/manga are made only for adults. All the anime you've watched till now are shonens (anime/manga for teenagers). Vinland Saga is one of the four main pillars of seinen anime/manga along with Berserk, Vagabond and Monster. Seinen anime/manga have realistic approach towards storytelling. Berserk is known as the best manga of all time, so I also want you to check it out.
I don't know who is choosing which shows you're going to watch but that person has a really good taste. Everytime I see a new show on your channel I am like "Holy sh*t".

I'm a big dub watcher, but I think going with the sub was the right choice here. Due to some mess up, they made two conflicting dubs for this show, and we have no idea who will continue it for season 2. It would be a mess if you went with the wrong one.
I hear Steins:gate is also on the polls, and that I recommend dubbed.

So happy and excited that you're finally watching this show. It's reminiscent of AOT in terms of animation because it's animated by WIT Studio, same studio behind AOT seasons 1 - 3 (2nd season is being animated by MAPPA which animated AOT season 4)

This is a damn good show, with well written story and characters.
I am not even a big fan of vikings and yet I binged Vinland Saga in like 3 or 4 days.
18:24 I said the same thing) I don't know how accurate anime (or manga) to this sort of thing. It's is a bit hard to imagine that this Slav guy has to be enslaved somewhere in, let's say, Poland and brought all the way to Iceland. That's crazy if that actually happened.

All I can say is this show is about breaking hearts and mending them. If your already feeling emotional at this episode then you are not prepared. Also as for the studio, yes it is Studio Wit which did AoT and funny enough, season 2 is also going to be Mappa who took over from Wit. But good news, even with the studio change it is the same crew working on the show.
