JYP explained why he doesnt add the whisper at the beggining of his songs in Knowing Bros last year. Basically, he said that when he writes and produces a song for their artist, it might get prejudice from the people because of him, so he stopped a few years ago to protect the singers of his company. The reason i think he added it to NiziU Make U Happy was the hype the reality show made, with his face in every japanese program, they love him so knowing that JYP was behind them surely helps with the japanese public.

What's interesting is that even though the song is not built to chart, it's actually breaking all sorts of chart records in Japan. Admittedly, I think a lot of it is due to the popularity gained from their survival show, but nevertheless... this song has garnered massive interest from both the Japanese public as well as the international Kpop fan community. A rough list of accomplishments and records this song has accrued (so far):
    - #1 on 64 music platforms upon release, including all major music charts in Japan.
    - M/V also topped RUclips Japan and surpassed 20 million views within two days of release.
    - 4 out of 5 songs on the pre-debut EP entered the Billboard Japan streaming chart (at #1, #5, #6 & #7) within 2 days of release.
    - First artist to reach #1 on the Oricon Weekly Albums chart with just a digital album only (there was no physical album printed).
    - Biggest digital sales week in Japanese history for an album.
    - Biggest streaming week in history.
    - First rookie group in Japan to win #1 in all three categories (digital single, digital album, streaming) in their first appearance on the Oricon weekly chart. This is the 2nd time this three-category domination has happened in history (among all artists), and the first for female artists.
It'll be interesting to see if NiziU's actual debut song will be able to maintain this ridiculously overpowered momentum.

Just say she’s Japanese American (but ethnically half French and half Japanese). “Half-American” doesn’t mean anything since it’s a nationality and not an ethnicity. It’s really offensive to just assume all Americans are white.
Edit: I’d also suggest anyone who reads the comment thread to at least skim my comment to the reply of this one because it seems as though a lot of people aren’t aware of the impact of such a simple word. Thanks!

    • @rumi1379

@@addyvalencia She is half American half Japanese by nationality, even in her profile it's written don't be so easly offended, I am not sure if her dad is 100% French so she can be half American what that has to do with all americans being white lol

    • @addyvalencia
      @addyvalencia 4 года назад +12

rumi1379 I mean that’s why I said just say she’s Japanese American? Japanese American can either mean an American who is ethnically Japanese or a person who is both of Japanese and American nationality. I’m pretty sure her profile labels this correctly as Japanese American under nationality. Also, a lot of white Americans are from many different ethnicities but many will say I am ethnically ____ if they know they are mostly of that ethnicity.
Also, the reason why I have a problem with your terminology is that in non-Western countries it creates a lot of assumptions about Americans. I get a lot of turned heads when I say I am American because I’m mixed and American but not white. You’d be surprised how many foreigners still come here and expect everyone to be blonde and blue eyed.
I understand you weren’t trying to be rude, but the specific word “half-American,” which a lot of people use in reference to ethnicity, pushes bad stereotypes.
Also, sorry for the long reply I wasn’t trying to rant or anything. At the end of the day, you can say anything you want, but I just wanted to let you know how this can create a negative rippling effect despite how harmless the word seems.
Edit: Just a quick word of advice! Telling someone to “not be so easily offended,” doesn’t do anything to fix their discomfort. It just comes across as passive aggressive and dismissive. It’s okay to receive constructive criticism to what you say, you know! Also thanks to anyone who actually takes the time to read my long ass reply haha.

Does this music video seriously remind anyone else of Twice's Likey? The lighting, and especially the scene with the one member on the bicycle during golden hour? The colors and everything seriously threw me back to Nayeon in the Likey video as well as Nina skating by the river just like Tzuyu. The member who is on the bus reminds me of the scene with Chaeyong in the subway rapping. And obviously, that one transition near the end is reminiscent of More & More. I wonder if since they referenced multiple senior's songs in the rap if maybe they also incorporated various videography styles? Did anyone else notice a similar reference to a Twice or JYP artist MV?

I think they appeal to the Twice Japan audience, but they seem to have quite a few Korean fans, judging by the comments in their project videos and this m/v. Also, there are quite a few Koreans living in Japan, and vice versa. So, their potential audience is quite massive.

IMO a big part of why this release is as it is, with them just hanging out on their own and only coming together and doing a choreo at the end is to mirror the fact that this group was made from amateur girls rather than trainees (except Miihi Mako and Rima of course), so they go from being regular girls that have fun singing and dancing on their own to eventually coming together and becoming idols.

You get a half choreo on their survival show where the girls were split into two groups and did this song. That is where you see a choreo for the whole song. The korean video is a preforemance video with the dance as a whole with the 9 girls who debuted. There are other pre-debut songs on this show as well. They plan to debut in the fall.

"Make You Happy" is the song that they did on Nizi Project the survival show they were created on, which is probably the main reason why this is a predebut since im pretty sure Twice and JYP got a backlash for debuting with songs we already knew since Like Ooh-Ahh was the final song from SIXTEEN. The NiziU members are all Japanese, one member is mixed Japanese-American and her name is Nina. Overall the group is super flipping talented and I love them a lot and hope they succeed.

Jyp stopped including the end call because of the song didn’t do well they would attack him so he stopped using it for a while.
Also niziu is basically the new twice I think they are taking over the cute concept since twice is moving to more adult glam vibes and itzy has the girl crush concept so he’s covering all his bases

i think that the decision to make a predebut mini album is not only to grab attention of new fans/people but for the people who watched the show bc all the songs on the mini album were presented in the the show and all the public really like them, so i guess that is also a reason for a pre-release mostly for the already fanbase created within the show.

What you said about the company's singing style being reflected onto their artists is true. You can tell like with SNSD for example.
Taeyeon and Jessica were taught how to sing in a similar/same style by their vocal coaches. They also seemed to have forced the same technique onto Tiffany and Seohyun to compensate Jessica's missing vocals after she left the company. So much so that even though it's not a comfortable range for Tiffany to sing in, she had to force herself to perform in the SM style, which damaged her vocal chords in the process.
With YG, Rose has to sing in the YG style as well, that's why there are a lot of videos claiming she's not singing with her "real" voice (siting videos of her pre-debut as proof of these claims).
Even for male idols like BTS and GOT7, the song's they're given fits the style of the company they're in. That's why their fellow bandmates who have a lower singing register have lesser singing lines is because the key of the song will match the style the company normally goes for (normally falling on the higher register with matching belts).
It doesn't mean these idols can't sing at all. More over, they're just not given the kinds of songs they can perform comfortably to show their skills as often as fans would want.

PD, they came from a show called the nizi project, and this song was one of their final songs that they performed. You should check out their EP (it has 4 songs including make you happy) and I think you'd enjoy Boom Boom Boom. You don't have to put it on youtube but I feel like you should listen to their album once because their other songs slap. (it's not just bubble gum pop ;))

Yeah, it happens to me all the time. I'll be listening to Straykids and think to my self "You know what? This sounds a lot like Twice." I'm joking, lol. I think that was very much a thing 4 or so years ago, but now It seems only songs JYP himself is involved in the production of sound JYPish.
