9-10 years, my first granddaughter Sadie, was 4 yo. We went food shopping at HEB or Walmart I don't remember which. She was in the trolly basket and what she said changed me forever, softly and sadly she said, ''Pawpaw, SOMEDAY when we have some extra money can I get one of those? She was pointing at a baby doll that was 5 or 6 bucks. I asked her, do you that allot? She shook her beautiful little head, this broke my heart. I said to her ''Baby Bear, do you know what today is? I said ;'''TODAY IS SOMEDAY'' We pulled every doll down and she took over an hour to choose the perfect one, We checked out with around $100.00 of doll stuff. That night while putting to bed, I gave her a present, A ten year Calendar with ''SOMEDAY'' shows up around 200 times. Talking with her last night before bed, she said ''Pawpaw, I still have my SOMEDAY Calendar. Love you more''. 💓 🐻😪
This is from an old man with WAY too many surgeries . Phil , listen to your doctor ! Do the PT ! Most important , listen to your wife ! Speedy recovery to you Phil , and Stacy , feel free to go upside his head as needed .
I missed you, Stacy and Phil, and I'm so happy to see you after your time away. Thank God for a hometown to return to and that casita. Shoulder surgery and rehab are another level of pain, but then again, you're familiar by now. Phil, I wish you a complete recovery in the time that it takes for you. Stacy, I wish you're fully rejuvenated and re-energized after every bit of rest, so you can manage for you both. I send you both strength and positive vibes, and God's willing, you'll be back criss-crossing this beautiful country of ours.👍🏾🙏🏾
All the prime rubber companies say to replace all rubber parts every five years. I also had a rare car, so I made a habit of keeping a new spare belt for everything. If you are keeping spares, dust them in talc and store them air tight. The talc prevents oxidation and cracking of the rubber.
Another recovery option for Escapee members is the CARE center in Livingston, TX. Three meals a day, medical appointment rides, laundry service, lite house keeping, a nurse on staff.
Man, I think that pricing was super fair for a Sunday. I was surprised!!! Also, next time a belt is squeaking, even only if it’s cold, go ahead and get it assessed and replaced. My Cummins did the same thing at 150k miles (tensioner pulley and belt).
Never fails an issue on a Sunday. Speedy recovery Phil. Just did that same surgery a few years back. Stick to the PT and don’t push past what they say… trust me
Phil, that is not a bad repair bill at all. I had my AC compressor changed (it was leaking) at our local RV repair shop and it cost me over $1400! The compressor cost was about the same as yours but labor was off the hook! Glad to see your recuperating and will be back to normal soon.
Thank you for sharing, I'm mentally defective, when Phil is stressed or in pain, I go mental. Glad to see you post op and I'm glad the price was reasonable on the repairs. I moved to Florida 1 year and 3 days ago, I wore my today is Someday T-shirt... Thanks guys, the Army vet loves you both.
So glad to hear you survived your "ordeal" and Phil's surgery went well. We love our MicroAir EasyTouch, but of course, we NEVER do any stealth adjustments. 😋🤣
So glad you are doing well, Phil! Listen to Stacy and take it easy. You don’t want to over do it and end up doing damage to it and then have to either be stuck having to do rehab for an additional tome or worse, another surgery 😢
Great video, we also had a travel day nightmare, one of our slide motors went out and we needed a tech to help repair it. Get well soon Phil. Safe travels
We love our thermostat like yours. When in decent WiFi can watch temp from anywhere and adjust. But the best is firing up the heat from under the covers.
Praying for a speedy recovery, got to love Stacy because she’s right we are all human! The repair price was very reasonable, and girlmyou know you can’t trade Phil in he’s already trained!😂
Glad you are taking good care of yourself Phil! And glad Stacy is helping you with recovery time. I saw your shirt and realized I must be more cool than I thought because I just bought that same shirt last week. 😂 Always love your videos.
Get a Yankee push drill, $15 in any hardware store. You just keep pushing on it, and it turns drill bits to make good starter holes in all sorts of wood. You'll fall in love with it.
First and foremost, glad to hear the surgery went well. Hoping the recovery continues to go well. My recovery on the first shoulder surgery, the muscles bonded so they had to go back and cut the bonded area. We used to carry spares when we had older vehicles. So for now haven't a chance to figure out the spares list. Thank you for sharing and have a great recovery.
Wow what a week or two I am impressed on how you knew who to call to get things fixed. I was also impressed when you wanted an EXTRA belt. Good luck on your surgery and rehab. thanks.
I’m a full time RVr. Last January I slipped on some ice and dislocated my shoulder. I completely tore 3 out of 4 tendons that make the rotator cuff. I feel your pain!
Oh wow, lots of headaches with vehicles, eh? I know it felt like it was a long delay, but I think it’s a small miracle you were able to find a parts place only 12 miles from your breakdown location and an available 24-hour RV mechanic on a Sunday not too far away. Glad your surgery was successful! Hope it *is* the last one!
Great video! We are not full timers and I know that makes a difference. But I’m a freak for rv weight. Ever single time we come home I go through ever single cupboard and drawer and every single how time I’m removing stuff!
If you use space bags, couple of companies make fist-sized pump/vacuum units so that's all you need to get a hard vacuum in the bag. Much less fuss than a vacuum cleaner.
I enjoyed the video. I love the idea of weighing exactly how much weight you got rid of what a smart idea. So sorry about your surgery, but I’m happy to hear that you’re doing well. Great idea to get a thermostat at the front and the back of the RV! I’ll check out the website
Belts don't usually break because they don't like you. Most times it is because another component has failed. In this case it was your AC compressor. Breakdowns are inevitable even if you keep up with maintenance. Love your Vlog.
Same surgery, same shoulder. 4 months ago, so I felt your pain. Hope you have a fast recovery and my Dr's advice was to not do anything stupid with my shoulder for about a yr. And if I do, that's how he makes his money.
Glad the surgery went well and we pray for a speedy recovery. I am surprised that you didn’t carry a spare belt. Honestly, I don’t have one, but I will soon. We do carry a spare water pump, wiper blades, step motor and a DSS. Love the channel and looking forward to season 2 of RVU.
Another great video! Thanks for showing the thermostat replacement! I thought I would have to detach and attach each wire individually! Also thanks for the QR code as we always watch on tv and can never access the links our RUclipsrs provide. Safe travels!
Hey guys I've been pretty scarce lately but with good reason that I will share with you over on the web site. One thing you might want to check on is if there is away to short belt your engine so if the compressor seizes up again you can just go around it and be on your way. It will take a different belt but it gets you back on the road. Some engines can, some can't, but it's a neat trick if you can do it too your engine. Oops, I see someone already mentioned this below. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Hi you two. Glad you are back in action (well, no action for you Phil😊). I had severe rotator cuff surgery (right) a couple of years ago...not fun but praying I don't have to do it again! We start full time RVing in June so revisiting some of your videos for more knowledge. Stay safe!
I’m so happy to hear this! Our biggest arguments in the rig are definitely temp. I like to be completely comfortable…he accuses me of being just like the “Princess and the Pea”. I’m totally good with THAT! I want to be comfortable!! MEN! Feel better soon Phil! You have the perfect nurse to help you!
AF here glad to hear your surgery went well. Listen to DR keep up with PT, this coming from one old man that had complete shoulder replacement. Take care my friends. When you get well wishing you fair weather and safe travels.
That is the thing about RV'ing. Sometimes plans take a severe left turn! We were 2 hours from home when a part (which looked like something off of a semi mud flap) hit us in the rear driver side, wrapping around and taking out the brake lines. Luckily we were able to limp into a Walmart parking lot, and were a 1/2 hour from Tuscon and an hour (~11:30pm) before the airport car rental services closed for the night. No tow available till the next day. Those last two hours took 14 hours to complete! (and a couple of weeks before the RV made it home) Be careful out there!!!!
Looks like you have a decent engine access. Even more access than some bilges I've attended to. Engine access was main fear and reason I do 5th wheel. If the truck is the issue they can tow it to the shop. Also, medical issues are our main reason for not selling sticks and bricks. With our 5 month camp host last year we realized we had too many clothes.
Thanks for the inspiration to purge, ya'll! We've been full time in a 33aa like yours 22 months now and have NEVER purged. We understand it's risky to be overweight (blowouts happen!). We're stationary right now, enjoying the Pacific Northwest for the summer, but we'll be purging before we travel again, for sure! It'll be fun--or maybe horrifying!--to see how much it all weighs. 🙂
If you must replace your belt there should be a diagram somewhere around engine or online. Mine son had shoulder surgery 2 times. Painful. Prayers for quick recovery. Enjoy following you.
Phil the main cause for a shredded belt is either a stuck alternator pully or air conditioning compressor pump pully or the water pump pully or power steering pully or stuck tensioner pully so you might be throwing money at belts when you have a bigger problem you and Stacey got lucky it happened in a rv park and not on a busy highway while driving
Hi guys, we really enjoyed your video! I just want to let you know that if it wasn't for you guys showing how to use RV Trip Wizard when we were planning our 2022 trip to Alaska, we wouldn't have had such a flawless trip!! Keep up the great work! helping fellow RV'ERS navigate as they travel!
Not to make light of your mechanical mishap but literally sounds like what happens to me but I just have My car no matter the car this is what happens to me in the middle of nowhere. Glad you were able to get everything fixed and to your shoulder surgery on time.
The exact same thing happened to us on our way to the eclipse. Our air conditioner compressor froze and caused the belt to break. Ours took 7 days to fix and we ended up missing the eclipse.
Hey Phil, i feel your pain. I had right side rotator cuff with bicep repair Oct 4, went through 21 weeks of PT with poor range of motion still, so they went back in and removed scar tissue which fixed it. 7 more weeks of PT on the rt side and had the same things done on the left side on April 16. They took out extra tissue so this one is doing great in comparison. I can't wait till PT is over early July. It's no fun. Hang in there! You'll be doing cartwheels again soon and I'll join you, LOL!
We are part timers - we travel both short and long distances for our trips. We are getting ready to head out to Alaska from Texas… (about 98 days total for this trip). Spent 3 weeks purging Mary (our 5th wheel)to get ready. I thought I had purged enough after our 6 month workcamper job in Maine 2 yrs ago - wrong - I found things we had been carrying around for 4 years stuck deep in corners and crevices 😂 (I didn’t purge before leaving for Maine). I removed over 150lbs of stuff….. now anything going back in is weighed and documented so we can be at or below our cargo capacity.
I just had a torn rotator cuff. It was nonreparable. Just did therapy and am doing well. Hurts if I sleep on it wrong. I was lucky and got full movement back.
We just had our first major mechanical issues while rv’ing. It wasn’t our RV but our toad. Our F150 showed it was in tow mode like usual but must not of disengaged the trans so after our 641 mile day we smoked our trans. Luckily we were home so we had CoachNet pick it up and took it to 5th Gear and 10.5K later we got a new trans with 3yr 100k warranty. That made the trip a little more expensive.
Been meaning to thank you for your service , you picked a good branch . My Pappy was gunnery officer on a D.E. and an uncle was in the Seabees in the big one , both volunteers within days of Pearl Harbor , my youngest son is an Annapolis grad and spent ten years in , a daughter in law was in for about fifteen and very proud of being a Shellback , and two grandsons did two stints each . Guess who gets rooted for in the Army/Navy game ?
I saw your video on this resort last time but apparently they don't allow 5th wheels in the casita sites. We really wanted to go there too! Glad Phil is cooperating. My hubs had rotator surgery too. Listen to orders so you don't re-injure!
Great to see y'alls video. Nice that got your rig fixed and back up and going. A little down time is nice once in a while. Sorry for your surgical issues, Phil. Shoulder is a tough rehab, just because of all the muscles and the way it all works, guess you already know that though. And you want to take good care of your nurse. ( learned that lesson as well, many times). Hope y'all take it easy getting back on the road. God bless and y'all stay safe on your travels. Phil, buddy, you won't win the war on menopause, and just learn to live with it and stay quiet. It will get better, trust me.
The wife had rotator cuff surgery beginning Nov '23. Was not out of the brace until February and is still going to PT. She is expected to finish PT sometime in Oct this year. Therapist says her progress is great and doing better than most. Take your time, don't overdo anything and listen to what the Dr tells you. So sorry you are going through this, but with patience you will be 100% again.
Hi Stacy and Phil, Sorry brother but I have to give the wife top billing. Interesting debacle you went through. I had noticed a chirping coming from the serpentine belt area of our 2014 Allegro RED 33aa. I purchased a tensioner thinking it was that but once I got the belt loosened I found it was quiet. Turned out the water pump was making the noise. Ordering that and installed them in my driveway. Much better way than this failing on the road on out trip to Western NYS soon. Now I also have a spare belt which gives me a good feeling knowing I have that. Also for anyone reading this, a tensioner will start to fail at around 50k miles. Wishing you a quick and complete recovery Phil.
I just called Red Bay diesel and they gave me the part number for the a/c bypass belt. They ship the chassis with this belt on it. This fix would get you to a shop and you can do it. This should save you some money next time.
I just had shoulder surgery also, it's going to be a challenge next weekend when we head out for Memorial Day weekend. Wishing you a speedy recovery, mine will take about 7-12 months. #US Air Force
We purchase an XTools scanner for less than $300 so we can do brake service on the three vehicles we have that have electronic parking brakes. First brake job paid for the scanner.
Congrats on your successful surgery (and of course your RV repairs). I had some extensive shoulder surgery (they cut on me and ground away bone for 5 hours) done 23 years ago (old Army injury). It was a piece of cake. I was in constant pain before the surgery, as the cortisone shots didn't work anymore. After the surgery - no pain at all. They put a pain pump in, but I didn't have to use it once. I shouldn't have waited as long as I did to have it done. Funny thing, when you said your PT was just a couple miles away, my mind went to Physical Training and thought to myself, man he better wait a while before doing push-ups. 😵💫 Anyway, my physical therapy went quickly, despite all the work they did. Wishing you a speedy recovery too. 🤕
Nice recovery. While having a spare stock belt, see if your a/c compressor is configured on the engine to allow a bypass belt. I carry the stock 77” belt, and a 70” belt that bypasses the ac compressor. Take care.
We love the Alsatin RV Resort and have stayed there several times. but not at one of the Casitas. Of course no stop there is without visiting Haby's Alsatin Bakery in Castroville (try and get there early before they sell out :-) We really enjoyed Julianna's Restaurant next door. I can sympathize with Phil because I had BOTH of my shoulders done several years ago. Just needs to be religious about his physical therapy and he'll be fine but it's going to take awhile. Be safe and stay healthy.
Phil.. I enjoy you videos.. I like your idea about keeping a spare belt. We have done that for a few years and hope I never need it.. couldn't find one locally so I had to order one and it took about a week to get it .. that will mess up you trip if you have reservations down the road .... Also you may want to keep a spare step motor on hand .. easy fix but hard to find one on a Sunday .. Thanks for your videos and your Service ! Rick Chilton in North Carolina
I have a 2014 Phaeton and had the same problem. There is a belt that you can use that will eliminate the A/C pulley. I believe it is 60” long. The regular belt is 90” long. You use it for emergency. I carry both belts in my bay parts box when i have a spare minute i will send you both Part number. I’m at my granddaughters wedding so when i return home Monday i will get the P/N’s.
Phil as i said i have a Cummins ISL 8.9 and the main belt P/N is Alliance brand GT 4080897 and i got that from freightliner. The shorter belt is a continental P/N 4080830 that bypass the A/C pulley. Good luck with the shoulders, I had to have both my shoulders replace due to arthritis. I spent 25 years in the Air Force and flew on B-52 during VM out of Guam for 6 tours. Bill
When Stacy was talking about bulk items and 6 or 8 packs all I could think about was the scene outta Tommy Boy, the mini fridge scene with him and his dad ; “You can put 6 packs of b…soda in here”.
That mechanic deserves a big thumbs up.
Indeed!! He is on my speed dial for when we are back in SA and have other issues.
I said ;'''TODAY IS SOMEDAY''
We pulled every doll down and she took over an hour to choose the perfect one,
We checked out with around $100.00 of doll stuff. That night while putting to bed, I gave her a present, A ten year Calendar with ''SOMEDAY'' shows up around 200 times.
Talking with her last night before bed, she said ''Pawpaw, I still have my SOMEDAY Calendar. Love you more''. 💓 🐻😪
That is so sweet!
Note to self: add serpentine belt to emergency parts bin.
This is from an old man with WAY too many surgeries . Phil , listen to your doctor ! Do the PT ! Most important , listen to your wife ! Speedy recovery to you Phil , and Stacy , feel free to go upside his head as needed .

Every couple of years, I take the tensioner off and regrease the pulley bearing. I do the same for the alternator. I carry a spare belt all the time.

I carry all belts and 2 fuel filters on my coach at all times. Additionally carry all bulbs and diagnostic electrical equipment.

Glad to see Phil is doing good in recovery and yes it is amazing how much crap we accumulate in a short time. Enjoyed the video as always stay safe
As for the shower and rotator surgery...I took press n seal and covered the bandaged wound to protect it from the shower. Worked beautifully!
So glad you are doing well, Phil! Listen to Stacy and take it easy. You don’t want to over do it and end up doing damage to it and then have to either be stuck having to do rehab for an additional tome or worse, another surgery 😢

I (Phil) agree! I am somewhat trained though....work in progress. LOL
@@todayissomeday you two are great, a breath of fresh air.
Hoping for speedy recovery and if you go to the blue Beacon, you should have them clean. The engine makes a big difference. I had them do mine.
Glad you are taking good care of yourself Phil! And glad Stacy is helping you with recovery time. I saw your shirt and realized I must be more cool than I thought because I just bought that same shirt last week. 😂 Always love your videos.
Honestly not a bad overall cost under the circumstances! I wish you a good healthy full recovery! 🙏🙏🙏
We got really lucky!!!
Get a Yankee push drill, $15 in any hardware store. You just keep pushing on it, and it turns drill bits to make good starter holes in all sorts of wood. You'll fall in love with it.
Hi guys, we are back on the road. 6200 miles this year. Close to being monetized. Loving the house we had built in mission. Take care be safe.
We did a big purge in our R.V this time when we were home. It's crazy the things you accumulate that you no longer use. Lynn and Danny
First and foremost, glad to hear the surgery went well. Hoping the recovery continues to go well. My recovery on the first shoulder surgery, the muscles bonded so they had to go back and cut the bonded area. We used to carry spares when we had older vehicles. Had my right shoulder rotator cuff surgery 9 years ago it took 6 months to recover 100%. Hope you recover fast.
I’m a full time RVr. Last January I slipped on some ice and dislocated my shoulder. I completely tore 3 out of 4 tendons that make the rotator cuff. I feel your pain!
That sounds painful!!!
Another fix is a belt that bypasses the ac compressor.
Also, I vacuum pack my spare belt to keep it from degrading in storage.
Speedy recovery Phil! Thank you both for your vids. You inform and entertain. Bless you both.
Thanks so much
Now I’ve got to get that thermostat! Thanks for sharing! Safe travels! - Mike and Shelley
You should!
Wonderful video. Glad Phil's surgery did well and hope he gets better soon.

Good advice. LOL
Glad Phil is recovering well. Stacy, don't succumb to the overwhelming desire to choke him. You almost have him trained. Stay safe.
Almost......LOL
Glad the surgery went well and we pray for a speedy recovery. I am surprised that you didn’t carry a spare belt. Honestly, I don’t have one, but I will soon. We do carry a spare water pump, wiper blades, step motor and a DSS. Love the channel and looking forward to season 2 of RVU.
The belt was on my list forever. I now have a spare and I kept the old tensioner pulley as it was still good.
Another great video! Thanks for showing the thermostat replacement! I thought I would have to detach and attach each wire individually! Also thanks for the QR code as we always watch on tv and can never access the links our RUclipsrs provide.
Safe travels!
Glad it was helpful.
Get well healthy healing and proud of you both!! Lay low slow and steady wins race!!
We have that thermostat too! Love love it! We can monitor the temp for our dog Marley while we're gone. Along with a security camera we are all set!
That is awesome!

Well said!
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Phi!
Thank you!
We purge before a major trip, and it's every cupboard and drawer. It's is astounding how we are still little packrats!!
Instead of the large coffee table why not get a TV tray or small plastic end type table good for indoor outdoor use.
I will keep him in my prayers for healing
I am constantly reorganizing and purging different sections in myRV lol. It’s a continuous process for me.
I'm praying you have a good recovery. I had a reverse total shoulder replacement last July. Enjoy your videos.
Thank you!
AF here glad to hear your surgery went well. Listen to DR keep up with PT, this coming from one old man that had complete shoulder replacement. Take care my friends. When you get well wishing you fair weather and safe travels.
Hand Salute!!! Thank you!
Glad to hear all went well Phil! Hang in there Stacey!! 😁
We do not RV full time. We empty everything out of it before it goes into storage. Less and less seem to be returning to the RV each year.
That is the thing about RV'ing. Sometimes plans take a severe left turn! We were 2 hours from home when a part (which looked like something off of a semi mud flap) hit us in the rear driver side, wrapping around and taking out the brake lines. We fortunate that Joe was not that tall so he could fit under the bed to reach the compressor and belt.
I had the same issue on my ITASCA when the AC compressor seized, and the belt broke on the 10 Highway in middle of nowhere New Mexico.
Oh no. Hope you weren't there long before help arrived.
We know the feeling all too well. Have fun in the Pacific NW. We hope to get up there next year after our cruise in March.
If you must replace your belt there should be a diagram somewhere around engine or online. Mine son had shoulder surgery 2 times. Painful. Prayers for quick recovery. Enjoy following you.
Thank you.
Agreed! I thought it was the tensioner pulley. We were super lucky!!!
Always carry spare belts and fuel filters. I'm even thinking about buying a spare tire and carrier. Hopefully most of my mechanical issues I can fix.
Thanks for sharing!! Glad to hear Alaska was a success.
Not to make light of your mechanical mishap but literally sounds like what happens to me but I just have My car no matter the car this is what happens to me in the middle of nowhere. Glad you were able to get everything fixed and to your shoulder surgery on time.
Just locating those screws that hold the access panel to the engine top in the bedroom is a chore the start with. Even using a magnet.
Right
The exact same thing happened to us on our way to the eclipse. Our air conditioner compressor froze and caused the belt to break. Ours took 7 days to fix and we ended up missing the eclipse.
That stings a bit! We were super lucky to find the right guy at the right time!
Thanks! Everything is going smooth so far. PT is a chore, but getting better each session.
Speedy recovery, Phil
Great idea…weighing as it comes in.
Prayers for Phil, you guys are to cute. I hope I don't have to hear in your next vid that I need to pray for yall over the new thermostats!!! GB
Oh no! That was an expensive trip.
Best wishes on your recovery!
Hand Salute to the entire family!!!
I saw your video on this resort last time but apparently they don't allow 5th wheels in the casita sites. We really wanted to go there too! Glad Phil is cooperating. My hubs had rotator surgery too. Listen to orders so you don't re-injure!
There is no way to drive the truck out once you pull in. The golf course is in front of the Casita.
LOL. Thanks a ton! Stacy wins the temp wars these days. I need her happy and cool!
Thanks for sharing good luck on recovery
Thanks so much
The wife had rotator cuff surgery beginning Nov '23.
Thank you! The recovery is going well. PT is working.
What size belt and part # is it? I will look at ordering one as well.
Awesome season 2 unplugged. How was the healing process from the shoulder? Ive heard its a tuff recovery.
I just had shoulder surgery also, it's going to be a challenge next weekend when we head out for Memorial Day weekend. Wishing you a speedy recovery, mine will take about 7-12 months. #US Air Force
Hopefully, you are back in action sooner. Mine is healing nicely. We hope to get back out in the wild next moth.
We purchase an XTools scanner for less than $300 so we can do brake service on the three vehicles we have that have electronic parking brakes. First brake job paid for the scanner.
When I had my diesel pusher I kept a spare belt along with diesel filters well glad y’all got things taken care of 👍
Thanks 👍
Get better soon! And love the QR code! 👏🏻👏🏻 ❤️
So glad! I was hoping it would be helpful
Get well soon!
PT is not fun! Today is 16 weeks since my complete tear repair. I just now feel like I've turned a corner. Hope you are progressing well.
I'm 3 weeks post op. So far so good.
Am still praying for Phil
Nice recovery. While having a spare stock belt, see if your a/c compressor is configured on the engine to allow a bypass belt. I carry the stock 77” belt, and a 70” belt that bypasses the ac compressor. Take care.
THIS!!!!!!
Castroville has so many hidden gems. We love coming here!
Thanks a ton, Rick. Great tip on the step motor. I will have to dig up the info on it. I meant to do it awhile a go.
We remove something for each item we add... little hard to do, but we make it a rule.
That is a great tip. Yes, please share the part number.
LOL
Stacy did you leave a socket in the cabinet ? LOL😆 Looked like you did a good job
