    She handles the two big crescendos masterfully. She really makes the sea "angry". There is so much depth of expression in the slow parts. She doesn't rush those parts. Beautiful performance!

      That's a very astute observation, thank you. Her interpretation is probably my favorite.

    I love the tempo she takes!!
    Everyone rushes so much it's ridiculous.

      there’s a recording of Ravel playing it himself pianists use for tempo reference

    I raised a silent objection in my mind to the languid way she commences the piece, but in all honesty, she has made the piece her own and delivered to us one of the most persuasive performances I've ever heard or could hope to hear. Absolutely stunning. Congratulations to Martina Filjak on a truly outstanding performance.

    That pale blue dot. Yeah, that's earth. This is what music sounds like and is the embodiment of the complexity, wonder, beauty, intrigue and mystery of the human mind. Top that.

      You can't. This songs sounds like something you would hear floating endlessly inside nothing, as if the entire universe has perished, and you endlessly reflect on everything

    3:35 is probably my favorite part of the whole piece

      Really?? My favorite part was the beginning where everything is just so lightly calming. I dont have a problem with the louder parts, its just very gentle and pretty it makes me feel at ease.

    That Ravel piece is captivating and this lady does such an emotionally accurate job of describing it to music
    I pray she is faithful to God’s Word and gets the chance to play this for the King of kings someday!

    Très belle interprétation poétique et nuancée. Un beau voyage sur l'océan à perte de vue. L'exact oposé de la version historique de Richter, remarquable elle aussi évidemment, qui nous immerge implacablement dans un océan déchaîné. Deux voyages différents et pourtant exactement les mêmes notes!

    bravo martina ! A la fois extremement douce et parfois furieuse cette poetique marine avec ses plaintes et ses ressacs; Bon tempo qui permet de mettre en valeur les détails d'une oeuvre que je croyais bien connaitre! excellent fini pianistique la ou Richter y va "a la louche"! piano impressioniste certes ,mais d'une puissance toute lisztienne ,assez unique dans l'oeuvre pour piano de Ravel........

    are there different versions for this piece? I've heard other renditions that didn't have certain parts, like the glissando

    • @michelleong2762
      @michelleong2762 6 лет назад +6

      If you're talking about 3:04, yes there is a glissando there. As Ravel wrote it the glissando up begins at G sharp and ends at precisely A sharp, and the glissando back down also begins at precisely A sharp and ends at F sharp. But she overshoots the A sharp quite a bit and also goes way over the F sharp :/ I think people sometimes finger the whole passage because Ravel wrote out all the notes for the passage, but he clearly indicated a glissando. I don't think either is wrong though

    • @BuddyDean
      @BuddyDean 6 лет назад +8

      You're correct. Ravel wrote the glissandi out limiting the range. She takes liberties by overshooting, but that is part of her interpretation.
