We sold our souls
To divinity of oceans
Bestowed our fortunes
Demons of the depths
Thus now we are
Left stranded
Shipwrecked and collapsed.
This has got to be the best funeral doom vocals I have had the pleasure of hearing.
This was fantastic. Familiar with the band but never heard this song before tonight. WOW!!
Just came back to your channel today after a long hiatus, heard my name and was like WTF? Thanks for listening to my suggestion though, even if I did completely forget. Glad you liked this one, the songs on this album that I like the most are this one, O Father Sea, Tombstone Carousal and Nickerson's Theme (of which there is a really good live video out there).
Also really touching hearing that story about yourself, I'm just sorry you had to go through that.
Please do more Ahab, anything from them I’m sure you’ll loved
Hey man, great reaction and I'm very glad to see another Doom metal journey.I know that I asked you to do a reaction for one song on the infinite list and I really shouldn't ask for another song but if you have some free space in this doom metal journey(or when you will have some spare time) for "one more song" I would like to see "Emperor Of the Void"by "Candlemass."That song has a HUGE lyrical value to me and I would love to see your breakdown.Thank you for your great content 🤘.
Alright, I'll add it to the list!
Me encontré con esta banda en sus inicios ya hace muchos años.. En ese entonces mi vida era un vacío absoluto... Este disco en particular fue un compañero inolvidable. Gracias y saludos a todos.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
If you want doom try Fórn - Ritual ascension through a weeping soul
Great reaction, love your analysis on the song. Were I to introduce someone to funeral doom Ahab would definitely be one of the first choices that would come to mind, songs like this are a great example of how creative a funeral doom band can be. There's a lot of good variation in the guitar work between somber melodies and those big OOOGH caveman death/doom riffs, similar things could be said in regards to Droste's vocals, going from excellent deep guttural, death metal vocals to mournful cleans. The only thing I would have to say is, while the drumming is certainly solid, I do think The Call of the Wretched Sea had more dynamic drumming, but that's kinda nitpicky, it's a great song and the album it is also off is fantastic.
On another note, I didn't discover that the shipwreck of the Essex inspired Herman Melville until after I had already read Moby Dick, and yea, it's a wild story. Gonna need to buy a copy of Chase's account of the event or Nathaniel Philbrick's book on it at some point!
Nice reaction. Love my som Ahab. If you want some more quality funeral doom I´d strongly recommend Mournful Congregation. I´d love for you to react to The catechism of depression or The monad of creation. Definitely some of the best funeral doom out there.
I'll add something to the list!
There is actually a film about this story I Think it's called at the heart of the see. A lot of famous actors are in that film also, like chris hemsworth and tom holland
Edit: On further research, I may be mistaken. The album artwork is The Raft Of Medusa, which covers the shipwreck of the French frigate Medusa, however the song titles(Pollards Weakness, Nickerson's Theme) definitely relate to the sinking of the Essex.
That was about the story of the Essex, the inspiration for Moby Dick, which Ahab's Call Of The Wretched Sea focuses on.
Divinity Of The Oceans is based on the shipwreck of Medusa, a French frigate. Of the 400 people on board, almost 150 took refuge on a raft, floating on the open ocean. The Raft was found 2 weeks later with 15 survivors on it.
@@bairnonessie actually it's not i thought the same when i first found this album because of the album cover and the first song's title but if you focus a little about the lyrics you can see it talks about the essex whalers even some songs titles contains the names of the ship crew like nickerson and pollard
@@hazembenabdelhafidh3286 yeah I looked further into it. Already edited my original reply haha
@@bairnonessie haha it's all fine dude :)
